  1. I keep hearing good things about Firefox and I'm really tired of the problems with I.E.'s "vulnerabilities", but my other computer is down and I'm still using my $20 dinosaur with only 100mhz and 32 ? memory.  Do you think I should even try Firefox? I'm already using all kinds of software, etc. that I don't meet the requirements for .... but it doesn't seem to slow me down too much.

  2. i don't like Norton AV if that's what you are talking about, it's a resourse hog and is far too difficult to uninstall which both mean poor programming.

Actually it means the installer they use has issues, and they did not fully set everything in the installer properly.

  3. Ok, Ive finally saved up enough to fix the Dell I broke a while back. The processor will be a Celeron D 2.6GHZ, a 1GB stick of PC2700 ram, and am thinking of getting a geforce 6600 for it...Specs for it can be found here:http://www.buyxg.com/store/item.asp?key=VC-135-216

It says "BUS PCI-e x 16", to my understanding that is the PCI speed, I was wondering if that meant my pc would have to be "BUS PCI-e x 16"...Ive tried to find out what my "pci speed" is on my Dell but I cant seem to find it anywhere, would that be compatible with the Dell Dimension 2400 that I have?

    Thanks alot,

    Supaflies

BTW:If your curious about my other products that I will be buying, you can find the ram here:http://www.digi4me.com/product.php?productid=462

    And the Processor here:http://www.starmicro.net/detail.aspx?ID=48

    Thanks

PCI-E is PCI Express. In terms of graphics from lowest to highest it goes as follows. PCI, AGP, PCI-Express.

  4. Implement a feature that (like CWShredder) will warn that any open browser windows (IE, Firefox, Opera, etc) will be closed before the cleaning begins. This would help to resolve many issues that people are having with the style layouts of websites in Firefox, IE, etc.

  5. Unfortunately, the manual cache cleaning is the only solution for me personally because of the following:

    1. I need to run CCleaner in an automated/unattended fashion.  Currently I set up a Windows scheduled task that is executed every night on all my PCs.

    2. I need to keep all the FireFox browser windows open without interruption at all times as I have lots of work tied to the tabs in the windows that I don't want to close. The FireFox tabs feature is what really caused me to switch browser as I can have many tabs  accessible without cluttering the desktop.  Closing the browser windows means I will lose all my work.

Thx for the tmp workaround but unfortunately it doesn't help in my situation.

Try to run CCleaner on startup using the /AUTO command.

  6. On any java type page if you runn CCleaner and do not reboot it will wipe out the forrmating, I do this all the time to kill flashing adds.

Just run CCleaner with all browser windows closed.

  7. Thanks Tarun!!! You solved my problem.  "Close all browser windows and THEN run CCleaner." Open their eyes and the blind shall see! Now - how are the brainless made to think? Thanks again!

Sometimes the most simple solution is the most obvious one.

Or in the case the one right in front of your eyes. (Even as you read this message!) :D

  8. Joseph Ratzinger of Germany has been elected the 265th pontiff today by the College of Cardinals. He was announced as tens of thousands of people gathered in St. Peter's Square. He has chosen the name Benedict XVI, the Vatican announced. The announcement came shortly after white smoke rose from the Vatican chimney and bells rang to announce that a new pope had been selected.

Cardinal Jorge Arturo Medina Estevez of Chile made the announcement to a cheering crowd in St. Peter's Square.

Ratzinger, who took the name Benedict XVI, appeared on the balcony of the Vatican Basilica to greet the people and deliver his first papal blessing.

Earlier, white smoke rose from a Sistine Chapel chimney and bells rang Tuesday, signaling the selection of a new pope.

The crowd clapped and waved flags as the smoke began to billow over Vatican City about 5:50 p.m. (11:50 a.m. ET).

Suspense built as the throng waited for the symbolic ringing of bells, at which point the crowd broke into a roar of jubilation.

The conclave of 115 cardinals had voted three times previously -- once Monday night and twice Tuesday morning -- before selecting the new pope.

The cardinals' morning ballots were burned at about 11:50 a.m. (5:50 a.m. EDT).

Chemicals are added to the ballots to turn the smoke white or black.

Pope John Paul II, who died April 2 at age 84, had decreed that white smoke be accompanied by the ringing of bells, to avoid a repeat of the confusion after his election in 1978.

Ratzinger needed two-thirds of the votes to be selected.

    Speculation rife

There has been a great deal of speculation about who may be chosen to succeed John Paul II, who died April 2 at the age of 84, but cardinals have been mum.

Some taking part in the conclave said they are looking for a leader who presents a hopeful vision, who can "generate some dynamism and some optimism within Catholicism."

The first clues to the process of finding a successor were sought during the homily or sermon delivered by Ratzinger at Monday's public Mass.

"Having a clear faith, based on the creed of the church, is often labeled today as a fundamentalism," Ratzinger said.

Allen said Ratzinger delivered a "very blunt" message for the church to "stay true to itself."

That was a strong indication that Ratzinger, 78, wants a "traditionalist" elected the next pope, Allen said.

John Paul was widely credited with extending the reach of the papacy. He spoke more than a dozen languages and set an unprecedented pattern of pastoral travel, drawing huge crowds all over the world.

He was also strictly traditional on issues of sexuality and the role of women in the church, which won him support among some Catholics but alienated others. Similar disagreement exists over the next pontiff's stances on issues such as birth control, stem cell research and the ordination of female priests.

  9. I tried the temporary solution on my WinXP Prof.  w/ SP2 and 'clean' several times with FireFox 1.0.2 still running and it does not work--blank Yahoo mail page (make sure you are inside the Yahoo mailbox).

The only *sure* workaround is to go into FireFox Options->Privacy and manually clear the cache.  Then the Yahoo mail page reappear properly.

Pretty annoying--as I use FireFox extensively now on all my PC's.  Hope the fix comes out real soon.

Close all browser windows and THEN run CCleaner.

  10. GET FIREFOX!

Hey everyone! I'm new to the boards...

Seriously, if you don't use Firefox already, you really should get it. It really is faster, safer and better.

For instance, since I use Firefox, I never get caught up with DSO Exploit.

    Anyways, my 02 cents.

    Glad to join you guys!

        Snowy :)

Spybot 1.3.1TX and 1.4 RC1 can fix that DSO Exploit.

  12. Steve: That last part you have to type as you see it.

Click start, click on Run..., and type CMD, and hit enter.

When the Command Prompt window appears, you type each line and hit enter:

    CD %systemroot%\drivers\etc

    ATTRIB -R -H -S -A HOSTS

    DEL HOSTS

    ----

The name servers (202.188.0.133 | 202.188.1.5) are OK.  They resolve addresses to IPs and vice versa. You can use the command NSLOOKUP in Windows XP to access the nameserver.  Each time you connect to, say, 'www.google.com', your nameserver looks it up -- here's what my output looks like from CMD:

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]© Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.C:\Documents and Settings\DjLizard>nslookupDefault Server:  tampfldns08-amp.tampabay.rr.comAddress:  65.32.2.147> www.google.comServer:  tampfldns08-amp.tampabay.rr.comAddress:  65.32.2.147Non-authoritative answer:Name:    www.l.google.com[b]Addresses:  64.233.161.147, 64.233.161.99, 64.233.161.104[/]bAliases:  www.google.com

At any rate, yeah, you wouldn't technically be able to access the internet, except by IP address, so don't remove the nameserver entries (when I give Windows custom nameservers, hijackthis says they're removable as well -- it's normal).  Tarun must have been sleepy, because you shouldn't remove that ;)

Tarun - I also doubled up on the 'safe to remove' text in your program, sorry, haha (I'm sure you can fix it now). (Domain hijack, safe to remove. Safe to remove:)  Change the wording to 'Custom nameserver, not recommended to remove' or something.

    O17 - Domain hijack, according to Merijn it's also O17 - Lop.com domain hijacks

I'm also going to remake the app in Delphi this time on my own, referring to your port of it as a guide. Should be real easy.

  13. Tarun, something interesting for you to know. I removed the above item. Guess what I cannot open any webpage after that. I restarted & it worked fine, but the item is back on the HJT list after restart.

Ran the Kazzabegone, came out with 21 ITEMS, now thats way too many items, don't you think ??

KazaaBegone: A Kazaa uninstaller which scans and removes all elements of all Kazaa versions, as well as all of the bundled software that comes with it.

Warning: This version has a bug that can cause your Internet connection to be broken when removing New.Net, WebHancer or CommonName. An update is being worked on. If you still want to use KazaaBegone, download LSPFix to fix your Internet connection (download it before you run KazaaBegone, of course).

That might be why you can't open any website thereafter.

  14. Nope, and I DON'T recommend turning the thing you just mentioned off (it's not related - the system log = event viewer\system).

If you really don't want dumprep, disable error reporting (on the same page as Startup and Recovery Settings) - I DO NOT RECOMMEND DISABLING ERROR REPORTING.  Error reporting has given me perfect solutions to problems I've had in the past (both on my own machines and my customer machines).  It also helps Microsoft collect aggregate crash data, to see how many people are affected by a given problem (the more error reporting everyone does for a given crash, the more priority it will get, and it will get fixed faster - so report those errors!)

-u means usermode and -k means kernel mode

a driver blows up, you get a -k

Iexplore blows up, you get a -u

if error reporting failed, sometimes it gets stuck as a startup entry (it's supposed to say Windows has recovered from a serious error, etc)

Really? I go to Advanced > Error Reporting and disable it but to still alert me on errors. Should I change that?
