yeah but software firewalls arent the ultimate protection. a hardware firewall must always be the first line of defense.
-
that almost never works for me. it always warns me that there's WinXP instalation files in C:\WINDOWS or some other bs.
the way i replaced mine is by getting the accual UXTheme file and replace it with a program called Replacer
after restart, kill explorer.exe, and use some other program to navigate to C:\WINDOWS, and from there, delete uxtheme.dll(it conflicts with the one in system32 which sucks).

Buy a cheap email account. Hotmail offers a Free, and Paid ($10 I think) accounts. Then once you're registered change it the way Andavari suggested to a free account. Then cancel your paid account.
i doubt that would work since the email would end with '@hotmail.com' which hydrogenaudio.com blocks.
i just want to report a bug on foobar2k. well accually more like 3. im using the RC and a lot of stuff is pissing me off. i think that there's a foobar2k IRC channel but i cant find it anywhere.I'm not sure that it will work, but if you really want to register with that forum it may be worth it.edit:@Eldmannen: that didn't work either

but when i try to register, it says that it blocks all free providers...
-
too bad my ISP didn't accually give me an email
-
right now, i am trying to sign up to the hydrogenaudio.com forums but it doesnt let me because the email i use is a free one. so does anyone know an email service that it doesnt block?
btw:i've tried GMail, Yahoo, AIM Mail, nothing works

after you extracted it, it should be in something like this. C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\sometheme
if you want to use it, just to go the Appearance tab and select it there. but if you want to select it from the first tab named "Themes", then after you apply it, click the "Themes" tab, and click save as. make sure that it's in the Themes folder and save it as th filename that you wish.
btw:i don't like this theme a lot. it's a bit too bright and the Start button looks weird.

Why stick with second best? Read this, download Firefox, and live happily ever after.
or Opera

just remember to stay safe from evil sites. they can install spyware in the background sometimes.
-
-
Free Download Manager is already in winapp2.ini
-
the basic version is free but the pro one isnt. if you have a good e-mail provider, then you dont need it. right now i have gmail and a feature that is has is that it doesnt send any mail that it considers spam through POP3.
also spamfighter works for Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook

you do realize that FlashGet is spyware right?

before i got broadband(was using ISDN at the time), i used FDM and it never failed me once. i used other ones but most of em had confusing interfaces, crappy UI, and/or just plain sucked

7-Zip because the author of the best compression system made it and because it isnt bloated like a lot of other compression applications. the UI is a little confusing but nevertheless, it's still a good program.
-
yeah but i doubt that converting mp3 to ogg will make it gapless since the mp3 isnt.
-
yeah ogg does have better compression(except in some cases it can become larger than mp3). also it's gapless

Exactly! Quick question. What does the x86 mean?
x86 would be the type of processor that your computer posesses.
x86 is also known to be an assembly language(very advanced programming language)
for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86

You can Right Click and remove a high percentage of files and folders on a computer, but it is not the right option because unless they are shortcuts (which that icon did not appear to be) you are more than likely going to end up with a highly unstable system, if not totally unusable.
The actual icon that you deleted was part of the FTP application that would have come with dreamweaver for the uploading of websites that dreamweaver would have been used to create.
In future I would recommend using add/remove if there is an entry, or if not find out exactly why it is on your system and possibly just leave it there, after all it wasn't doing any real harm, (but ideally should have been uninstalled along with dreamweaver).
that's only if you delete stuff in the important directories such as Program Files and WINDOWS.
also i did use Add/Remove to remove Dreamweaver but it didnt remove it so it stayed like that for quite a while. so i just asked for a way to remove it. of course i did find the solution on IRC since someone asked me if i tried to right click it and/or press the del key(the del key doesnt work in My Computer).
also im not really worried about removing important stuff. i love removing a lot of stuff. you would be amazed how much junk i removed from it(at least 5GB). and most of it came from Program Files(a lot of times programs dont delete their Program Files Folder for unknown reasons)

i say that a hardware firewall is the best kind but since i can't get one right now, i have to use Sygate because the other good firewalls fail me.
ZoneAlarm gives me the problems that i mentioned in my other post and Kerio firewall must have a blocker for p2p stuff because it somehow blocks DHT and DC++'s Search function. since i can't find another good and free firewall, that's what im stuck with

if you are a user that leaves the computer on for a long time and/or have 512MB or less RAM, then dont get it. the TrueVector's memory usage went up to 120MB on my comp one time. then windows started complaining about starting to use Virtual Memory. this happened because it leaks memory
also i've had issues with the newest firewall. the truevector service keeps crashing and when it does, all internet access is denied. it can happen at any time and is very annoying.
also if your "IP"(i think you might mean ISP) gives it to you for free for 1 year, you're gonna have to pay for it if you wanna use it the next year.

the reason Eldmannen says that you'd be better off with no Norton products is because Peter Norton's stuff was bought by Symantec and you may or may not know this, but when Symantec buys a program, the ussually make it worse. i've tried Norton AV 2004 and it worked but it sucked. after i uninstalled it, my computer ran much much faster with AVG Free Edition. so in other words, dont get anything from Symantec.
