  1. *bump*

sorry for bumping this but i just had to ask. right now, i am using Spybot and SpywareBlaster as my spyware/malware/other protection. since i just replaced my hosts file, should i get rid of SpywareBlaster?

  2. Talk about minimalistic rridgely, you really made Opera look skinny. After your previous post about making it look more like Firefox I too did some customizing and came up with this:

    zaopera21april067ga.th.png

get rid of the links toolbar. it's useless :)

  3. i don't perfectly understand why they even bothered to put it there. but i'll try to explain what they do. the << button goes back to the main page. here's an example.

you go to google.com and you do a couple of searches. to get back to google.com, you have to click the < button multiple times. but with the << button, 1 click is required.

as for the other one, that one really confuses me. but it looks almost like it picks a random link from the page and loads it.

  4. foobar2000. it has a plugin called AMIP(google it) which lets it integrate now playing into in title bar, mIRC, Skype, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, and a lot of other stuff. it's really bloated. there's also a plugin called foo_tbar(i think) that does the same but i dunno if its been ported to 0.9 yet.

  5. That was just so it didnt overwrite your other opera install(which I didnt have). Also did you notice that it only takes up 5mb?

yeah but i want it to overwrite it. i don't feel comfterable by setting up everything again(it's a clean install btw). and there was so much stuff to add(POP3, Feeds, etc.) so i just quit and uninstalled it. and yeah the Opera website or the Opera 8 installer always says that it's shorter than firefox :P

Anyway I finally got the tab bar under the address bar and that made a huge difference for me. I pretty much have it looking like firefox now. I still am using FF for the time being but who knows.

why would you want it under the adress bar? it looks just fine above it(cept if using a special skin)

PS: this is my Opera :)

  6. it install to "C:\Program Files\Opera 9 Beta" instead of C:\Program Files\Opera" so i got rid of it. it's pretty good though. it also has widget functionality which i'm planning to take advantage of when the final releases.

also built-in BT support(even though it sucks)

  7. first link is fine-get an archived file which i unpacked into a folder.

second link gives me a blank screen except for this:

    sc config DNSCache start= demand

    sc stop DNSCache

thats all it says, no file or anything.

that is a .bat file. the browser you used was braindead and opened it instead of downloading it.

  8. are you by any chance using Virtual Memory? because on the bottom, that's a little high. accually, a LOT.

as for stuff you don't need, igfxtray.exe and YPager.exe are the only ones that i can see. i don't really know what YPager does but igfxtray is useless.

  9. You should not remove SP2 because it comes with many patches and improvements that makes Windows better and fixes many security vulnerabilities.

US military rely on a closed-source commercial operating system?

    LOL!

that's just funny because i've always seen thing on slashdot such as the US Military using Open Source and other things.

  10. Warning:

Stay away from Cygwin. It's supposed to run Linux alongside Windows. It's evil  .

no it's not. Cygwin is just a program to compile Linux programs in Windows and use em in Windows.

  11. 32MB of RAM is also enough (for Linux itself -- if you don't install X11).

but you'll prolly be stuck with a command line interface.

PS: i'm not sure if KDE or GNOME works on a system like that.

  12. eMule sucks for a lot of reasons. mainly because it's SLOOOOOOOW. BitTorrent is quite nice though. ?Torrent would have to be the best BT client out there.

  13. i have to say that foobar is the best player around. very customizable, lots of plugins(some have to be ported for 0.9), and with columns_ui, it's just great.

as for XMPlay, it sucks. it has a crap interface and uses more memory than foobar.
