Though the file in it is deleted by CCleaner, the folder never is. Ergo, there is a defect with deleting empty folders.

Sounds like Firefox is being glitchy with its tab saving, I can't think of anything CCleaner cleans that would cause this.

It seems strange to me that CC developers use a word that most people will have no idea of the meaning (as seems to be backed up by some posts I've been reading), why not just use 'Include' then they will understand exactly the purpose of that option. Then they won't be posting here asking how to delete all folders in a folder they've included for cleaning cos it'll be clear when they add it in the first place.

You could just exclude the files you don't want deleted in Options>Exclude

I looked at the picture and I have a question: How are you able to list hidden files like "Pagefile.sys" ?
(On XP) Just go to folder options in control panel and under the view tab tick "Show hidden files and folders" and untick "Hide protected operating system files"

As far as I know (and what do I know?) the included folder name has never been deleted whatever version of CC is used.
Well it always has on my computer (and as I said my OP, going back to 2.28 proves it does)

In English - Flash cookies. This has been discussed many many times already and they are already cleaned by CCleaner except for the settings.sol file as removing this removes all Flash settings, just add it as a custom file to be deleted if you so wish

It looks like Malwarebytes does something during its scan of the temp folder which makes CCleaner think the files in there have been accessed.
JD, Alan, I don't know why I didn't see your replies when I looked at this thread earlier, but thanks. Looks like Malwarebytes is the one. I'll just have to keep that in mind when I go to clean out that folder.
A lot of virus/malware scanners when run update the last access date. Like I said earlier though, I haven't had the "temp files older than..." box ticked for a long time and it's never caused a problem, the only precaution I take is not to run CCleaner in the middle of installing something (ie before restarting computer if an install requires a restart). If I was in your position I would rather have CCleaner delete everything in the temp folder than be scanning it every single day.

I have 3gb of ram... so that should be enough.
As for programs.. how will I know which are needed? I mean, this is a laptop, so I assume it'll run more processes than a regular desktop... (see the two attachments.. if this board will let me do that)
Google them and decide if you need them. Aero does use quite alot of resources, you say you've got 3Gb RAM but is the processor and gfx card up to running aero? Have you tried disabling it to see if that's what's bogging your system down? (it would be my prime suspect)
I'm not familiar with what processes run in Vista normally but 68-70 running processes seems a lot (my laptop currently has 24 on XP). There are only a few shown in that screenshot (only 25 or so of the 68 it says are running) but there's certainly some that are at least candidates for disabling - eg:
does Carbonite NEED to be running constantly?
Toshiba Service Station?
Toshiba Flash Cards?
Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements (Do you use the additional pad functions?)
ConfigFree Task Tray?
ConfigFree Switch Manager?
WebShots? (a quick Google suggests this phones home alot)
HDAudio Control Panel?
Toshiba Power Saver?
Now I'm NOT saying you should go and disable all of them, they are just the ones which I would be looking at disabling if it was my system (most will probably be running at startup so you can try disabling via MSConfig or CCleaner's Tools>Startup section and they can easily be re-enabled if needed). Also I can't see your anti-virus listed, this could also have a slowing effect if it's Norton for example.

Just a thought--I scan my computers every day with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, and SAS scans the Temp folder. Would that do something to make CCleaner think those files were all recently used?
As Alan said, you need to look at the last accessed date. And yes, having those scan the folder may well update the last accessed date, meaning that date may never get to 48 hours old so they won't be picked up by CCleaner as old enough to clean.

As it seems that you are keen to use WFS and WMFT why don't you run a WMFT on it's own, with nothing ticked in the WFS box and without ticking the Wipe Free Space box on the main page? I bet that nothing will happen.
I just checked CCleaner to see if, as suggested above, the wipe MFT can be run independantly of the wipe free space function and it can't - it only runs if one of the disks is ticked to wipe free space (and the wipe free space box is ticked under the cleaner section too obviously).

It seems that the latest iteration of IrfanView doesnt' keep an .ini or .cfg file for its settings (at least not in its own directory structure). I'd happily have CCleaner delete it if I could find it (my settings are simple and easily reset).
Are you sure, look for i_view32.ini in Program Files>Irfanview

I vaguely remember looking into this a long while back when trying to create a winapp2 entry for Irfanview but the way recently opened entries are stored it couldn't be cleaned (it stored them in a config file and deleting that would also delete all your settings). So unless Irfanview has changed this, which I'm sure it hasn't, you'll be out of luck getting CCleaner to clean it unfortunately
You can of course stop Irfanview storing recently used files in the options if you wanted (Options>Properties/Settings>Miscellaneous - Untick "Show recent directories")

For the OP, as far as I can tell Smart Ram is part of iobit's Advanced System Care so you should be able to disable it from within that program

So what actual problems do you have NOW, unless I've missed something everything's working fine now, just your scared to restart in case of a problem, is that correct?
Don't worry too much about the search results you found, if you search for even the most legitimate filename you'll get results claiming its a problem that their reg scan or AV can fix. From my quick Google it looks perfectly legitimate to me. BUT if you wanna get you system checked over, and may be worth it just to be on the safe side, follow the instructions on this part of the forum and one of the malware experts will help you there:

There's a work around to delete a folder and not just it's content.
A manual edit of an include is necessary.
Add |REMOVESELF at the end of the path then click OK. (e.g. Include5=PATH|C:\Program Files\CCleaner\Lang\|*.*|REMOVESELF
Close Cleaner then reopen and run the Cleaner.
It won't show up in results, but the folder will be gone.
Thanks but shouldn't really be necessary though, especially as it worked fine before, so hopefully the removeself command can be added alongside the 'recurse subfolders' option

Ok, is "USER_ACCOUNT" a specific folder name called exactly that (if so I misunderstood and don't have that folder), or just what was used in the OP to replace the users own name? (if so it does get cleaned here)
