  1. Analyze figure is just a quick estimate. On my system it almost always takes off more.
  2. We honor and welcome your six decades of acquired knowledge and experience.
  3. Nergal the Evil Demon: I respectfully disagree with your informed opinion. In my 17 months with Vista I've never used UAC - it's a pain in the butt. Maybe I'm taking chances, but I feel I don't need to be monitored by a baby sitter.

    Ccleaner

True, but I was also responding to Racey's initial complaint:

Check your Autocomplete settings: Internet Properties\Content\AutoComplete\Settings\Use AutoComplete for (all should be ticked).
  6. Of the 5 disc burning programs on my pc, I rate Cyberlink DVD Suite's Power2Go as the best.
  7. I was too grossed-out by the story to watch the video.
  8. It took 1 or 2 days for the Piriform web site icon to show correctly on my desktop. Wait and see.
  9. Defragging involves moving files - which may move them directly on top of those files you wish to recover. This process overwrites the original files and when that happens they are gone forever, kaput, terminated, unretrievable.
  10. Don't uninstall the old version. Just download the new one - it will overwrite and save your settings so you wan't have to start from scratch.
  11. And I with File Shredder, after having too many problems with Eraser on Vista.
  12. Demos - try 'em all and maybe you can save the 40 quid. SourceForge also has some free Undelete stuff. Quickly checking with CNet I see 40 freebies listed.
  13. My meritless conjecture is that the file is too fragmented to recover.
  14. It's anybody's wild guess what the odds are of recovering those files. Why not simply install Recuva and find out? Takes only a few minutes.
  15. Afterward run Recuva and view in thumbnail mode. If you find something, just right click and BLAST IT.
  16. Your paranoia can ebb. My best guess is yes, it gets rid of most or all of 'em.
  17. No sweat, Nat - it's just going to delete junk files from those programs.
  18. 1.5 No problems yet, and "cautiously optimistic".
  19. And may you all enjoy the forthcoming year-end revelry Dec 31.
  20. I don't bother deleting with Recycle Bin - I let CCleaner do it at the end of each day. Please detail the advantages of implementing. We would then have to delete files from the Recycle Bin after using CCleaner?
  21. CCleaner is fast because it's essentially just deleting unnecessary files, while Defraggler has to physically move many files on the disk by reading and rewriting - much more time is involved.
  22. My Recovery partition is 10.2GB with 4.34GB free. All I have on there is the Recovery program which is about 5.88GB. I'm reading that you've put other files on that partition which is filling it up - files that should go to your C: partition, where you certainly have plenty of room.
  23. If Piriform could cut that time down to 5 secs, how would you spend the 3.2 secs you saved? Understanding the constantly advancing efficiencies in software development, the time probably will be cut somewhat in future revisions. After all, this is a free program, and I presume the developers are faced with time constraints on nonrevenue-producing programs.
