  1. Run it again. Or manually remove the temp file it created. You can locate this file via windirstat http://windirstat.info/

Forgive my directness but from your wording cleaning up "unused space" i get the impression you think it will increase free space on maybe a performance increase. Neither are correct.

The only time you need to use it, is if you are selling your computer.

  2. ensure that previously deleted files are removed from my PC beyond forensic recovery ;)

are you expecting the fbi to come knocking on your door any time soon? Why not just secure delete 1 pass to begin with :S

  3. ccleaner quando è in esecuzione. Assicurati minimizzare al vassoio è in funzione. Fare clic destro sull'icona nel vassoio di sistema di graduazione ed chiudere dopo la pulizia

  4. Hello and welcome to the forum, before posting a suggestion it's always a good idea to search first.

This has been asked countless times and we need to think about this realistically.

I personally dont know of a programmable way for an application to detect system shut down. Lets look at the issues that ccleaner would face even if it was possible.

1:Would always have to be running as a background worker to be able to detect system shut down.

2:Would have to force the system to stop shutting down (The idea alone could cause a hundred problems)

I don't see the fuss over running ccleaner then ticking "shut down after cleaning" over ccleaner detecting shut down because you have hit the windows "shut down" button.

Over all i would see it as ccleaner vs windows fighting it out to shut down and stay running.

  5. Thanks for the tip, but the "regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll" trick doesn't work, that's why I've only been able to do it with a bat file. Very frustrating, as if MS is doing this on purpose just to annoy people.

Two programs lose their settings that I have, well more really but two are annoying; Photoshop and a print screen prog.

As for the automatic registry errors, like I said; an "option" for people like me who never look at the results anyway. I suppose they could put a warning like they do on other things. I used to look at the results, but after a while of never seeing an issue I don't bother anymore. I've never had a problem with it, like you said, it's "gentile" I use JV16, Reg Supreme Pro and some others for a real clean.

    Thanks, I appreciate the reply

"In WMP go to the following: Options>Media Library>Monitor Folders, and remove the folder monitored. Then delete that folder. That should get rid of the folder from being created again." might work for my music, il have a look for the others....

I do understand some people dont check the registry entrys, and in 4 years iv never once had ccleaner mess up...but it would be bad practice to implement such a feature.

When you say "for a real clean" what do you mean? An over aggressive cleaner that is more likely to kill your machine? I never bother with registry cleaning unless i have uninstalled an app. There is to much hoo har over reg cleaning/defrag.

Or as alan said create a bat, or use vbscript. It's very easy to learn.

Il keep looking for ways to permanently kill the folders

when you say loose there settings? Can you expand on that....we might be able to help.

edit: i no it's not a solution, but i remember in tweak UI you can move the location of these folders. "My computer" "Special Folders"

The move them to a location you cant see

  6. I always run the registry scan after uninstalling an app. You say you dont think you need to fix them because the application has been removed, but that is why they are being displayed. Because they are left over.

Just make sure you make a backup of the registry before fixing, and you should be fine. Can i also suggested downloading ERUNT, http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ it creates a registry backup at system startup.

  7. I'd like to have an option under Options/Include to run an executable like .bat, .reg, or .exe when cleaning. For example CC will not delete those annoying My Music etc folders in My Documents, but a batch file will. Or a service or other item that changes with time or a boot.

I have one program that loses its registry settings now and then, and as a result puts out a bad final product, no idea how/why they change, but executing its .reg fix I made at every cleaning would keep the settings fresh.

And I'm sure there are lots of other people with other uses for an option like that too. Maybe some people always run a certain program after cleaning, like another reg cleaner, defrag program, virus scan, or a notepad with a daily reminder on it. So many things you could do...

Also an option to automatically select and delete all registry errors, so all you click is Scan for Issues and the rest is automatic. And maybe another check box that makes it jump back to the Cleaner window after it's done, since that's probably where most people go next.

It really is a great program. Thank you for providing it to us!

If you dont want my music, my pictures etc, go to start - run - regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll

which program looses wits settings? Have you tried contacting the maker or posted on there forum to resolve this?

As for "Also an option to automatically select and delete all registry errors" this has been suggested countless times and i hope, (i seriously doubt it would ever be implemented) it is never added.

You should not just delete registry errors because ccleaner displays them, CCleaner may be a gentle registry cleaner but there would be floods of i cant boot up posts,

  8. I started with the simplest approach and did a reboot - is there any problem for which reboot is not the answer?. The megafile was still there. However, this time when I tried to delete it the message was "file too large for the recycle bin, do you want to delete permanently". To which the answer was yes please, please, please, and now it is gone! Thanks for the guidance. Niall

It's all wfs does, creates a file the size of the hd and then deletes it, Something must of interrupted ccleaner and it never finished.

  9. I'm seriously surprised ccleaner saves to C:\Program Files. This is where programs live, not data. On Windows Vista, it takes special permissions to write to anything in or under C:\Program Files (correct me if im wrong iv never used vista)

So, Microsoft recommends storing program data in some "AppData" location,

    1. Common AppData, which is shared by all users.

    2. Non-roaming AppData, which is specific to the computer.

    3. Roaming AppData, which will be part of a user's profile if they are on a domain.

Once again correct me if im wrong, but if ccleaner saved the .ini file in "Roaming AppData" this ensures that if the user has the program installed on multiple computers on a domain, they don't have to set up their settings on every machine.

It would be interesting to hear the devs comments on that, but i know they are to busy to reply.

  10. This site is run by volunteers and some times there may not be some one instantly to reply to you.

Making multiple threads might be frowned apon as it can be classed as spamming. Please be patient i know a problem can be very frustrating.

I answered your question here http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=27773

Go to applications tab then to applications

edit: aethec, the original post contained this line "Windows tab (even with all the options unticked!!!)i"

So i assumed he/she has not looked under applications???

  11. I'm not to sure what you are asking... Do you want users to suggest to you what to remove or for ccleaner to make suggestions for you (for a future suggestion to ccleaner)

In any case, users on here could assist you but how would they know what you need/use. Others might but i am not personally going to sit here and second guess what you may or may not want.

Or the later would be totally unrealistic. Just think of the amount of new applications that are on the web. Millions.

  12. a couple of quotes from our forum

"Anyone know of any virus's hitting corporate firms right now on XP systems? we are fully up to date with all patches and have had roughly 200 computers shutdown without warning across Europe."

"wow, virus has disabled safe mode and is also stopping computers from booting once infected!

We are starting disaster recovering procedures to move out of London lol"

"Control panel has also been disabled under local admin:/ cannot get anything working eevn under safe mode.

Looks like all computers may need to be re-imaged and a move like this would cost the companies millions and will also make us breach contract with other businesses."

"ok it looks like it was caused by "mcafee". They have ****** computers world wide and there is no fix.

    Bye bye mcafee. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-3999026.php"
