  1. Can someone please help as I don't know that much about computers and don't know if this ATDMT is going to ruin my computer.

Take a deep breath. A cookie is only a cookie. A text file. It can not do any harm what so ever to your computer. All they are good for is generating marketing statistics. It is incapable of performing any tasks or functions on your computer.

Many even more advanced users still panic about tracking cookies. NO Tracking they do can be personally identifiable to you.

Remember cookies are stored with a specific web address. Which means they can only get information they put therein the first place. I wont bore you with details on how they do generate information which leads to tracking (things like double click) The simple solution is turn off third party cookies.

  2.

Which is their own fault for not actually reading what the installation program tells them.

As much as it would be nice to live in a perfect world with perfect people we all make miss takes.

Computers are still very alien to some people and relying on just your own common sense for other people wont work.

  3. hijackthis shouldnt really be used at the for front of detecting malware etc now a days. It's very dated. How every at a quick glance:

i'd probably guess it is to do with zone alarm. If i was you i'd get rid of norton(it's a virus in it's own right) & zone alarm and the silly amount of toolbars you appear to have. All these can have an effect on browser performance and even security.

I can't offer any assistance into helping you get rid of infections because only verified people on this site are allowed to, but i am allowed to suggest using avast 5 with MBAM

  4. Well, I'm certainly not lying.

I'm happy that it works just perfectly for you, but it doesn't for me. I work on computers for a living but I don't write or rewrite software. I install it and it's supposed to work, but I have found on several XP machines I've completely wiped and reinstalled everything from scratch, that CCleaner hangs when brought up from a shortcut I've placed at the top of the Start menu for ready access. -kd5-

And i certainly don't disbelieve you. I don't work on computers for a living but i do repair probably 1 computer a week for friends of friends etc. I always install ccleaner (with consent) and i have never experienced the issue you are having.

So it does lead me to think that maybe as dennis said that maybe it's some security software. Is there a particular piece of software that you install on every pc?

  5. I am having difficulties trying to open some old pictures with the extension ABM and I probably opened them in the past. But my cCleaner looks like it removes unused file extension relationships since the 2nd box on the Registry page is checked on Unused File Exensions.

But I have some old registry backups dating back to Jan 8 of this year. Would it be advisable to restore those if there might have been other issues dealt with and other programs added since then? And how would I restore to one of those saved registry backups?

ccleaner only backs up the removed entrys at that particular time. Restoring an older back up wont restore the recent changes. Just right click the latest back up and click merge. you may need to do this is safe mode (might not)

If i was you id forget the ccleaner backups, and install ERUNT, it's a small app that most of us on here use that creates a full reg back up at system start (you wont notice it)

  6. I'm glad you are not a mac fan boy. I think that's where a lot of my hate for them comes from. 3 years ago i had about an hour talk while waiting for the bus to a mac fan boy and god, I felt like killing him/myself, he would of argued white is black.

  7. Ha Ha. My Macs are much faster than my Windows machines. Especially browsing. I use Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, and Camino on my Macs and they are all much faster than they are on Windows with the exception of Camino which doesn't have a Windows version.

Isnt the OS X based on UNIX-system ??? so surely that would kill it's user friendliness?

The only reason why macs are considered to be far superior to pc is because apple hyped them self up to the hilt. This was never the case. A quote that is so true "Buying a PC is buying freedom of choice!"

Cant say that about a mac.

  8. Widows 7 squashed any interest I had in linux. Its just no comparison in functionality and polish.

Iv still not tried W7 or even vista, I will move on to w7 soon though. As for linux, i just use it for the love of it. Loved it from an early age. If it made a miss take it was because i made a miss take.

It's still not nearly as polished as Mac OS X though.

Urgh Macs, ridiculous cases and at stupidly expensive prices. If you want to look at speed test "mac vs pc" mac gets slaughtered. And who in there right mind would invent a one button mouse.

Aethec: When they say polised, thats all macs are good for. Looking pretty on display in a shop with that horrible dock.

  9. CCleaner runs at start up for me. I can also find my self running ccleaner up to twenty times per day.

And as said above, dont bother with WFS, a lot of users use it religiously which is pointless.

  10. This morning after restarting my pc, ask is there. My apologies. They didnt even "ASK" if i wanted it. My previous version gave the option to not include. This is just plain wrong.

If any one has trouble removing ask. First off:

Disable the toolbar in your browser. Go to your profile

    C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random string>\extensions

    And remove the ask folder

Install revo uninstaller. Dont bother with the programs default uninstaller because it wont actually offer you the option to uninstall. Invoke "ask uninstaller" in revo and just cancel it. Revo will then clear up all its traces.

In firefox (i cant comment on other browsers) type in the url "about:config" and filter "ask.com"

There will be about 5 entrys, you will need to right click and reset these.

  11. So where would the documentation/uninstaller go for each app Aethec? It's why i said Piriform - CCleaner - CCleaner.exe

Obviously the devs can choose any way they like. I could also imagine some new users installing ccleaner then spending hours looking in the start menu for ccleaner and not realizing its under piriform.

  12. I think it makes sense. Just like Microsoft Office. :)

Only thing though is office is office. Each piriform product is individual. You uninstall office and they all go. So thats why the start menu works. Office - Applications

Prirforms would have to go Piriform - CCleaner - CCleaner.exe and so on. Id find this an annoyance. Small aanoyance i know, but one never the less.

  13. Key word, DONATION. CCleaner is freeware but obviously donations are appreciated. Did you click the donation from this page? http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download Always take the time to read the whole page you are on, and even re-read to double check. If in doubt. ASK.

If yes then atleast you donated to ccleaner, other wise you have been scammed. If you are very new to the internet. NEVER just enter your credit card details. If ever in doubt post here regarding any software. Many of us can easily spot a scam or can verifie reputable software.

The direct link for ccleaner is http://www.filehippo.com/download/file/2c4e5cd18fc984ced4151710646dc97ec9a1dffa799be6ca26cf68cc6c64b8b8/

Click this link and you will be instantly asked if you wish to download ccleaner with out having to click any other links.

    Welcome to the forum

edit: iv added a screen shot of what i think may of happened.

Unless they changed it, the 2.9.4.1436 version (the very latest) had the Ask Toolbar included.

I am assuming that you are using the 1435 version or earlier, which is probably why you never had that problem.

    Test it & see!

I'm "2.9.4.1434" which includes the ask toolbar. Iv never experienced what you said.

I just switch to .1436 and it didnt even ask for a toolbar.
