  1. error given is r6002

    floating point support not loaded

CCleaner 2.10 worked fine.... 2.11 wont work at all?

    Think I found the problem.

Downloaded file from freewarefiles.com, installed, & CCleaner loaded, ran certain things fine, like uninstaller, startup, etc, but didnt clean, but would close out after that error message.

just re-downloaded it, but from filehippo. evidently, something was wrong with the file from freewarefiles, or possibly corrupted.

    now it works.

you may delete this post now that i found the problem, thanks!

    Hi mr don,

    I would take Nergal's advice.

Please only download CCleaner from Filehippo.com or CCleaner.com .

There are "bad guys " out there offering Rogue versions of various software .

It will do more on your PC than just what they advertise.

We care about our members !

    Good luck,

  2. Yes, I don't also understand

    Ward,

Have you been updating your CCleaner versions regularly ?

If so, there may be problem with how you are installing CCleaner.

Anyhow, is the latest version working OK for you?

    :) davey

  3. Sure, Davey. No, Desktop Shortcuts is not enabled in the cleaner. No, this is the only startup cleaner I use on this computer. And I'm the only user. And it seems, after a quick check, that the ones that were in the startup list are those that are in Users\Public\Desktop, while the ones that weren't are in Users\Tim\Desktop.

"whiterook6", what version and edition and 32 bit or 64 bit of Vista are you using ?

I experienced a similar problem. I had not only shortcuts but .exe files on my desktop listed in the startup programs and when I unchecked the boxes the shortcuts and files disappeared from the desktop. I didn't realize what was happening until several shortcuts and files had been removed from the desktop. When i try to recheck the boxes I get "the specified path is invalid" error. i cant find any way of restoring the files. I am the only user on my computer running vista ultimate x64. I haven't used any other utility programs. I never had desktop shortcuts selected in the cleaner. If someone finds a way to undo this I would be very grateful as it would very difficult to replace some of the files.

Thanks to both of you for your information.

The situation seems rare but I had similar problems with my PC that led me to this forum.

I have learned very much here and I will be looking into this further.

Have you rebooted since installing CCleaner. If not do so and try again.

If it still has problems turn off the deleting options that are set in Norton and try again.

Why are you not using the latest CCleaner ?

  6. Hi all with the suggestion of Rip:

In regards to your Hard Drives, I recommend that you create a new topic in this forum, where one of the experts can better assist you on that issue.

Because of an issue that he said:

If you haven't had any malware issues before this, it's possible your just having issues with your hard drive(s). Can you see about posting a HijackThis log, and possibly a MalwareBytes Anti-Malware scan log, as well?

It might be a wise idea to back up your data in the meantime, the backups can always be scanned by anti-virus software at a later date in time.

All the malware removal tools resulted in being no malware present.

    A bit ago I had a:

    Warning Event Notification

    Inside the box it says:

SMART has detected a problem with a Hard Disk Drive.

    1. Back up your data immediately.

    2. Contact your Help Desk or Dell Technical Support immediately.

    Never heard of this.

Can someone help and guide me on what and how to deal with this?

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

I am a hardware "newbie" myself but I would start backing up my data to another drive or whatever means you have. When you fail that S.M.A.R.T.test it means your Hard Drive is getting "BAD".

Don't go doing any more scans or heavy use of your hard-drive but they are serious about this warning.

Get your data backed-up first then you can try some other tests.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

P.S. Yes, I have needed and had other "Back Up" files also.

  8. A new user here. I ran Registry Integrity for the first time. It cam up with about 2,400 issues. Is it safe to fix these selected issues. I have no idea what most of them are. <_<

    Hello nqm,

    Welcome to the forums. :D

You will find that my self assigned role is to protect "new" users.

My first advice would be a definite "NO".

What is going on with your PC now?

Are you having problems or just wanting to "clean-up" your PC ?

What type of PC user are you ? Average type user or also specialized uses ?

If you are new to PCs and internals I definitely recommend leaving the Registry alone until you learn more.

No rush necessary since your PC is running. Correct?

You need to learn to backup things before you do such a step. Other safe practices need to be learned also.

If you ever bought a Dell they send you an Itemized bill/receipt. It lists all the hardware and software features. You have the description of the item, quantity and item number. There is also a two letter code in front of the description.

This is how the item is listed on my receipt. 412-0379 OA No Software Package

    OK! OA Bookmarked.

    May come in handy soon.

  10. I should of put more thought into it before, but I tend to be slacking with computers lately.

I will try to be around more often though. :)

I agree with Hazel. Your input is always helpful.

I didn't think about products like Nero having their own indexing programs but it only makes sense that they do. Your comments will definitely remind others to look into such product indexers.

    Thanks,

    :) davey

P.S. Everybody needs some slack time !

P.S.S. It only makes more sense related to running CCleaner since CCleaner cleans out the old index.

  11.

    I don't understand indexing.

Can you take at look at the setup for indexing displayed in this reply

    Hello JonPaul,

You have a great handle there.

I saw your post related to this thread.

If you do "searching" in "your" files for certain names and phrases then you should leave this on.

The faster your computer is the less this option will slow you down.

However, many people do not need this kind of "searching" available on their PC.

If "you" don't then you can turn this off (DISABLE) or leave it on manual but (STOP) the service.

Most people "disable" this service. I put it on "manual" and "start" it when my slow PC is not being used to create a new index. I need this "index" to do searches in "my" specific files. There is a new Windows Search 4.0 that allows the user to build "indexes" for files that the user specifies and only those files. The old Search does not have this option and it "indexes" the whole volume. This can take quite awhile even running in the background as it does. If your PC has limited RAM or speed this will slow down your "surfing" or whatever you are doing at the time .

This Indexing service relates to the prior Windows Search.

Windows Search 4.0 has it's own Index Service and is listed in the Services list as Windows Search.

Turn either off or on as you need or don't need them. Without the indexes being up to date many "searches" will find nothing or they will report files that are no longer there.

PCs will run faster with this service Disabled.

Other "search" programs use their own indexing method. This is what Google does. As evidenced in this thread there are various "indexers" for various software products.

Regarding the message in this thread and in your other post, Windows will also give this message for reasons other than "indexing". This is especially true if your PC is a portable or laptop. If you leave this "extended length" program running it may draw down your batteries.

So it all comes down to the individual user to make these decisions.

Statistically most users don't need this service. Many businesses do.

Hope this helps you make yours with a little more information.

    Good luck,

    :) davey

  12. Once I got a manager on the phone I was given a code number for a "no software option". No trial junk or AV or any of the crap would be installed on my machine. So I ask the guy if a "no software option" exists and actually has a code for it why did they insist they couldn't do it for me?

What did you SAY THAT CODE NUMBER IS ??? I am sure we are all dying to know, at least I am.

  14. No joy I'm afraid.

I wish I had found out it was Cleaner causing it straight away because then I could have reverted back to an older version at the time to see if it cured it.

    Hi Capman,

I often get this message when I have Indexing service on.

I turn it off most of time because of my limited 256 MB RAM and turn it back on in the PM to get a new index. This avoids much of the "search" mystery some users experience. I would imagine after using CCleaner the index needs a good update. You can also install the latest Windows Search 4.0 and it allows for "selective" indexing. I still use both.

You must have a pretty fast system, if it is "indexing" causing this as I notice the slow down right away for about 5 - 10 minutes at least.

All the MajorGeeks probably have it turned off so long ago they almost forgot about it.

    :) davey

UPHClean is a must have for WinXP.

I have been away a couple of days but I just noticed a similar Post. However the strange thing that he reports is "nothing" running in task manager. I wonder if he meant Applications or processes ? Now I have some testing to do.

P.S. Of course now I can't recreate it.

UPHClean helped clear up my user hive slow shut down problem. There was conflict with Windows Defender and the space would not be released until restarting and UPHClean would take care of it at restart.

Are you using Windows Defender or something similar that insists on being the last process running?

Some A/V that may take awhile to shut down ?

I always thought the problem was Indexing service but it may have been something else as I can not get that message in my tests. I will continue tests.

P.S. Do you use "secure delete" most of the time ?

What are your Power Options settings on this PC versus your other PCs?

  15. If I go to settings and "view files" it shows nothing. But if I do a computer search for just "temporary" it brings up over 2000 objects.

    Hello chill111,

    Welcome to the forums. :D

"Searches" are funny programs to say the least.

It depends on whose "search" you are using and when.

The reason this happens is the "search" index files that are being used are not current yet.

You look for the files and they are not there because they have been deleted.

The index still lists them and they will be that way until a new index is created.

    This is what is happening.

You also must remember that CCleaner is only cleaning the Temp files for the current user.

Any other users Temp files will still remain until they are CCleaned also.

The person who recommended CCleaner is a good friend. :P

Follow the other members advice also; this will help you keep your "Temp" space to a minimum.

    Hi Ivan,

I do not have personal experience using "defraggler" on Vista but I do advise you to ask about running it at start-up.

Some third-party programs that are run at start-up will cause Vista to delete the System Restore points.

Any Vista users with any input on this ?

  17. is there a bad effects on my pc when i defrag.?

    is it very helpful?

cause i download it..to speed up my performance

    thx

    Hello ivanguard,

    Welcome to the forums. :D

You sound like a "newbie" user. That is OK with us. We are glad that you asked such an important question.

Defragmenting your Hard Drive, especially the system drive, will help increase your systems performance.

It is not necessary for MOST average users to do this very often.

It is necessary if you have very many fragmented files on your system Hard Drive.

It is important that you have maybe 15 % or more free space available to do the "defragmentation".

To make your PC perform better for your personal needs it is important to "defrag" the files and folders that you use and change often.

If you have never "defragmented" your Hard Drive, then I would recommend doing it when you can leave your PC running with just the "defragmentation" program running. It may take from two to several hours to run the first time.

Defragmenting involves moving much data around on your disk. It is safest and fastest when done with no other programs running.

As a new PC user you can use either Windows Disk Defragmenter program for it's safety and simplicity as explained in this link.

    http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=111690

Or you can use Piriforms "Defraggler" program because of its speed.

You do have to be willing to learn how to use it and keep the program updated but it does have it's speed advantage. If you choose to do this then I also recommend that you install Andavari's Defraggler Shell as explained in this link.

This will allow you to Defragment "your" files and folders very quickly.

    Andavari's Defraggler Shell

    http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=17287

I use a combination of all three.

Mainly now I use Andavari's Defraggler Shell and I never have to defragment the whole Hard Drive anymore.

You may notice a "temporary slow down" for awhile until Windows "re-learns" and "optimizes" some things but then you will see much improvement.

Use CCleaner to clean as much as you can before "defragmenting" disks/partitions. If you have old "movies" and files that you rarely use or no longer need it is best to copy them to another volume and/or delete them before defragmenting also. (Never delete your Pictures, any of them. They are irreplaceable and all too valuable even though you may not think so at the moment.) This way no time is wasted on moving "junk" around that is going to be removed soon anyway. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DELETE ANYTHING. The defragmentation will just take longer.

    Good luck to you,

    :) davey

These links are great to learn what "defragmentation" is for and when best to do it.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc137767.aspx

If your system is still slow, there are other things that can cause this.

MOST systems are too slow because they have accumulated too much "junk" and the system Hard Drive has too many fragmented files.

  18. Similar thoughts here in the U.S. where I'm at. I dread the thought of winter returning, and wish all the snow and ice would just go to the poles for several years to replenish them.

That is what is so great about our planet's 15% tilt. You don't get bored with the weather.

You just wait a little while and you are getting "somewhere else's" weather.

I think we have come full circle, this year it seems like we are getting "our kind" of weather. It has been great for a change. Isn't "your location's" kind of weather normally great?

    :) davey

  19. 8 hours & only 28% completed?!?? Surely this can't be normal. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hello wmmead,

It is only presuming on our part but most of us now-a-days have more than a few multi GB files on our Drives.

Depending on how many logical and physical drives you have Defraggler can get hung up on some.

You might want to start a New topic regarding Partioning and such on the Software forum.

This would also help many others even me. I don't have a lot GB files but I know many do.

I would also recommend Andavari's Defraggler Shell. This takes advantage of Defraggler's speed in defragging files. With Andavari's shell program you can then concentrate on defragging only those files and folders that are needed for improved performance related to your daily use. This leaves all the "monster" files like movies and such where they be .

You may find like me that you never need complete disk defragging again. :P

  20. Malwarebytes Antimalware is one of the best going.

Most Antivirus/Antimalware are useless against a zero day attack but I do use these apps to clean up other machines.

Just to add my advice to all the "Newbies" and average PC users. I agree 100 %.

I have learned from you experienced members to have 2 or 3 malware scanners and updated always.

I run a Malwarebytes update and "Quick" scan everyday. I imagine on most users PC this takes around 10 mins. or less. I do this when making a few phone calls or leaving the PC for more than 10 mins.

It took about 2 to three mins. to link read and download and the update is a fresh copy everytime.

No need to worry about the file being attacked or such.

I like to keep things "simple" for average users like me. All you beautiful, important, average PC users GET IT AND USE IT. Small, fast, simple!!! :P

I hope this is right area for my 1st post...i use yahoo messenger to chat with friends, i dont save chat to archive, i check the box that says "no,dont save any of my messages"...when I clean with CCleaner will that remove that chat from my hard drive... or isnt it the kind of thing that will be saved on hard drive..... does it just disappear... when CCleaner is activated.....hoping you can help thank you <_<

    Hi wandoo,

    Welcome :D

This is a "extra" good question. Actually they are all good.

Lots of chatters on the Web.

As far as CCleaner goes, if you use some other program to delete the messages then CCleaner doesn't know anything about them.

I am not a chatter so I don't have any details to give you.

Most files that were recently created and then deleted by any method are overwritten very soon by newer files.

You can use Piriform' Recuva program to overwrite all old deleted files once a month or so. I do in case I forget some "banking " information or such. It runs very quickly. One (1) overwrite is sufficient.

It not only can be used to "recover" deleted files but can also be used to "overwrite" deleted files as well.

Get that file from this link at the bottom.

  23. Anyone have any perspective (or reason) why Diskeeper is (apparently) LIGHTENING FAST compared to every other defragmeter, including Defraggler?

In addition to Defraggler, I use a FREE version of Diskeeper, specfically Diskeeper Lite 9 version 9.0.528.0 from 2005. Therfore, I would appreciate those who refrain from making moot or sarcastic comments regarding the issue of "FREE" software versus all other defragmenting software.

Other than its ability to defrag a single file (versus the whole drive), performance-wise, thus far, I find only one issue why I prefer Defraggler over Diskeeper Lite 9.

    Thanks,

    Martin

    Hi Marty,

    Mainly,Different strokes for different folks.

No personal experience with Diskeeper 9.

The speed that impresses me most is how quickly Defraggler has matured in just one year.

Look up member "thm" posts and you will find some very informative threads about Defraggler versus other defrag products. Go back several months to get all the data. There are other users threads also but "thm" search on member name will lead you to most of them.

Nothing beats info from people who have used many products.

    Good hearing from you,

    :) davey

P.S. You can also follow the Great Defrag Shootout starting here. This will show the many comparisons.
