  1. I have to decide now which anti-virus to use, so this thread is interesting to me. My year's free CA antivirus has only 14 days left to run so I will have to make a decision soon.

CA (formerly etrust) has caused no problems but now intrudes a lot with full page reminders of how many days left I have, and to pay for my next year, although it doesn't do this when using opera!!

  2. In case anyone gets this error message when using CA Antispyware 2007 and trying to open or install spywareblaster,

"This program has been damaged, possibly caused by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it."

This apparently is caused by CA AntiSpyware 2007 and people are being encouraged to email CA in order to try and get them to do something about it as it is making spywareblaster impossible to run.

  3. Hello Hari and welcome to the forum. :)

A workaround for now to this problem is not to have ccleaner run at startup and untick"delete index.dat" in ccleaner windows options.

  4. Did you download the version with the yahoo toolbar installed? As I read on another forum that uninstalling the yahoo or google toolbars from add/remove programs solved their problem.

Another person solved their error message by running scans, it was a backdoor virus.

Do you have Microsoft Office installed and was it ticked under applications in ccleaner?

    Do you have xp?

  5. It must be really frustrating for you cowboy this problem.

If things can be run in safe mode which is just the basic things as you know, perhaps adding things one at a time from the start menu would perhaps help find the culprit. I did read somewhere (and I'm still searching for it) about how you can use windows explorer and go to your start menu folder and drag and drop them onto the desktop and then add one at a time. But as I said it's a while since I read it so not certain. ( perhaps just use run-msconfig)

You never know, you could always try this below, it causes lots of computer problems, unlikely but it cannot harm anything, the answer was in post number 7

As to your wga idea, I had a look around and yes there are people with one or two problems like the very upset guy here

But I wouln't have a clue if that was your problem.

When you said re install, did you mean straight over the top of the one you have, to see if it repaired anything?

When it freezes in the morning, you are online are you? Have you asked your local telephone exchange if they know of anything which could account for this?

    Don't give up cowboy.

P.S. Could your power supply be unstable, if I remember you make your own!!

  6. Hello Takuto and welcome to the forum :)

Could you give a few bits of info such as what version of windows and ccleaner you use, also any other info which you think may help to get to the cause of this problem.

There is no way ccleaner should take up to 1 and a half hours to clean your computer!!

Does the same "time" problem occur when you use both the clean and the issues part of ccleaner?

What was the reason for the reformat?

  7. I have an external hardrive that I just plug into a usb port to put info onto it and then I unplug it. It has no on/off switch, just me pulling the usb connection out! I've never lost anything yet. Don't know if this will help you out.
