    ccleaner

Yes all your applications will be intact CCleaner just removes Mru, log files etc all of which are completely safe to remove. If they were not CCleaner would not remove them. Issues is just a simple but effective registry cleaner. If you are a bit wary of using the Issues clenaer simply make a back up when prompted and if any problems arise tho I doubt they will simply restore the backup by double clicking on it. Also if you run "Scan For Issues", on the left side of the results it will tell you what is wrong with a registry entry CCleaner will remove i.e. missing shared dll, unused file extension etc. Off subject but I think you will find that if you use Avast Home edition which is a free and extremely effective anti virus program your pc should be quicker without Norton hogging all you power.
  4. Your bookmarks, extensions etc are not stores in the same folder as Firefox is installed in. They are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and are not deleted when you uninstall Firefox. Just uninstall the old firefox run CCleaner including the registry bit to clean any junk restart then install the new version. Beware tho your search plugins ARE stored in the same folder as firefox so browse to where you installed firefox and just copy the "searchplugins" folder to another location and copy it back when the new version is install and NOT running. Also not compulsory but i also delete the easy to find registry entries such HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla tho you do not have to
  5. I'm glad you both like it, make sure you sign up as well to keep track of updates to your programs.
  6. That is what i was trying to get across you should with every software(or at least i do) uninstall completely the previous version first to avoid problems with the new version.
  7. I would highly recommend Fileforum ever since I found it last year some time I have not been back to download.com once. It also keeps a track of all you favourite applications and email's you when there is a update. My current tracked applications are: 7-Zip Ad-aware SE Personal America's Army Autoruns avast! Home BitComet CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) DAEMON Tools DriverHeaven Driver Cleaner Professional Dup Detector DVD Decrypter Easy CD-DA Extractor Eraser ERUNT Filemon for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Folding@home for Windows NT/2000/XP Foxit PDF Reader HijackThis Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition Media Player Classic for Windows 2000/XP Microsoft ActiveSync Mozilla Firefox for Windows MSN Messenger for Windows Nero Burning Rom nLite NTREGOPT nVIDIA ForceWare Drivers for Windows 2000/XP NVTweak (formerly Coolbits) OpenOffice.org for Windows PeerGuardian for Windows 2000/XP/2003 Picasa Power Defragmenter Process Explorer for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 QuickTime Alternative Rainlendar Real Alternative Regmon for Windows NT/2000/XP RegSeeker RK Launcher SETI@home Spybot Search and Destroy SpywareBlaster SyncBack TMPGEnc Total Uninstall Ultimate Boot CD Full XMPEG Which is every application I have. Edit: I just went to Download.com wtf are they doing to that site. I mean check out what fileforum looks like on my pc no adds and all white
  8. Which is why you are supposed to uninstall Firefox before installing a new version. " Prior to installing Firefox 1.0.6, please ensure that the directory you've chosen to install into is clean and doesn't contain any previous Firefox installations."
  9. Yep, I know where all my apps are install and how I can change winapp.ini entires to point to the correct location. I just thought it would be a good idea if CCleaner was able to detect where a app is installed via the registry entry of a specified application.
  10. Can someone with more knowledge of CCleaner & programming in general please tell me what are the possibility of making CCleaner not only detect if a program is installed but where it is installed. I have all my application installed in a folder called "Installed Software" within "Program Files" so I know were all my apps are installed it also makes it a lot easier to keep my pc clean. The problem I have is some of the winapp entires which point to the actual installed folder of a program do not work on my pc by default i.e. my Avast winapp I made is by default [Avast Antivirus] LangSecRef=3024 Default=True Detect=HKCU\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\Avast Antivirus\DATA\report|*.* but for my specific PC I had to change it to [Avast Antivirus] LangSecRef=3024 Default=True Detect=HKCU\Software\ALWIL Software\Avast FileKey1=%ProgramFiles%\Installed Software\Avast Antivirus\DATA\report|*.* -----------------------------------***************-------------------------------------- Which is not a big deal but it would be great if CCleaner would also detect where a program is installed not just if it was installed. I mean this morning I download a patch for Act Of War - Direct action it did not even ask me where the existing installation was(on my pc it is in "Installed Games") it just installed it in the correct folder. It must have detected were it was via the registry entry that already exists.
  11. As most people here use Firefox I thought I would post this bit of news. Taken from BetaNews original can be found here. "Just days after the release of Firefox 1.0.5, Mozilla engineers were busy working to complete version 1.0.6 after API changes were found to have broken third-party extensions. Localized versions of the browser were also put on hold due to the impending update, which angered translators. Firefox and Mozilla's Thunderbird e-mail client will move to 1.0.6, and the Mozilla Suite will be updated to 1.7.10. "There is a very real chance that some of the general security improvements may impact a number of extensions that worked with 1.0.4 and earlier, and we want to identify and address as many of these as possible before we release 1.0.6," developers wrote in a Web log posting. Plans to quickly release 1.0.6 meant work on localized versions were halted, leaving some upset with the news. "Tens of millions of users are still using 1.0.4 while critical security bugs are already published after [the] en-US 1.0.5 release. I want to say that this seems to be absolutely ignored by [the] Mozilla Foundation," wrote Polish translator Zbigniew Braniecki. The Mozilla Foundation today issued candidate builds of version 1.0.6 in preparation for a final release. "Mail handling extensions such as Enigmail for Thunderbird and the Mozilla Suite should also be tested heavily. Any other extensions should be tested normally to ensure that they continue to operate without issues," developers said." Update can be found here
  12. The best way I found to stay up to date with all my programs is become a member of FileForum which is free you can then search for a app on there site and click "Add to Watch List" you then receive a email whenever there is a update to that specified program. My current tracked program list which is every program I have. Today I received email about a update to Autoruns, Peerguardian & Firefox. Yesterday there was a update to nLite. 7-Zip Ad-aware SE Personal America's Army Autoruns avast!
