CCleaner32&64 v.5.64.0.7613(Free) start, any update crash after a few secods

Recommended Posts

Hello, someone help me because I have a big problem, when I start ccleaner, a few moments later, a few seconds, and then the executable crashes.
I have win 10 Home, while the only version of ccleaner, which is the 5.64.0.7613, I can start it normally, it works without problems, all subsequent versions crash; I forgot, I don't use versions with installation, I use only versions without installation.
If you need further specifications on my system, please inform me.
Thank you in advance to everyone for any help!

It may be you Antivirus that is stopping newer versions of CCleaner from running. (We see it quite a bit).

Which Antivirus are you using?
(And which Windows 10 version, 2004,1909,1903, etc?)

If it's not Windows Defender then make sure that your Antivirus is up to date.
Tip- Don't just 'Check for Updates' in the AV itself, go to the makers website and check what the latest version is there.
(For instance Trend Micro 2019 will say that it's up to date, but the latest is Trend Micro 2020 which you sometimes have to get from the website).

In the meantime I thank you for answering me so quickly; however I don't think that the problem is generated by the outdated antivirus, after all the problem appears from ccleaner 5.65.7632 version and persists in the following versions, so the various antivirus manufacturers had plenty of time to update...
My security suite is the Comodo Internet Security Premium v.12.0.6818, while the operating system is win10x64 home, first the 1909 version, now in 2004 the same problem continues to occur.
Now, regarding the Comodo, if the processes are signed, there is no need to create additional rules, it seems to me that ccleaner (if I'm not wrong) is signed, consequently in my a.v. the process in question must work (!) correctly, in any case, I will make additional tests with the Comodo, but honestly I think it is a waste of time...
I think it is easier (but this is just my hypothesis) that it is a virus that prevents ccleaner64.exe from working correctly/loading, and I repeat this to be further as clear as possible, the only version of ccleaner that works without any problem is v.5.64.0.7613, while all the following ones, reaching the current one, the last one (I think) that is v.5.70.7909 crash and there is no way to start them!
Hello and thanks again for your patience.

Presumably you are downloading the Portable versions from the official 'Builds' page, and not getting it from elsewhere?

As said usually if CCleaner won't run then it's an AV stopping it in 99% of cases, which is why it's always the first suggestion to make sure that the AV is up to date. (Which is always a good idea anyway).
Older AV versions may not get all the definition/signature updates that the latest version does.

In this case you don't have the latest version of Comodo Internet Security Premium, so I would suggest that you update.
The latest version is 12.2.2.7036, released on 21 April 2020.

It is correct, the portable version is downloaded from the "builds" web page, even if to be honest I also tried with portableapps.com and official installer versions, and then copied from the setup folder, thanks to the virtualization function (for example Comodo Container) of some programs, but the problem persists!
I thank you for the link (that I already knew) of the Comodo forum, to download the latest versions of their security suite, but I always wait for an update to be distributed through the official channel, that is the internal Comodo update function; therefore, I guess I will wait, as said before, for the Comodo update to be done only through the update function integrated in the program itself.
I guess I'll have to wait some more, to see if the problem is solved by updating the Comodo from the official channel (otherwise I'll be here again to post! ;-)), in any case THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!!

Well as I noted above, a few months back those with Trend Micro 2019 were having the same problem with CCleaner versions above v5.64 not running.

TM 2019 wasn't offering them the update to TM 2020 so they had to go to the website and manually update, as soon as they did that CCleaner ran as expected again.

It's your choice of course, but I'm just pointing out that your Comodo may take a long time to get updated unless you do it yourself.
(TBH I'd always update an Antivirus as soon as I could to make sure that I had the latest protections).

If you don't want to manually update Comodo then another option to try would be to make CCleaner an exception in your current Comodo.
(You may have to do that for each new CCleaner version though).

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello, as already said in my previous posts, I remain of the idea that it's always good to wait for updates from the official channels, of any software, in any case, also thanks to your advice, that is to download from the Comodo forum the latest version released, I followed it (going against my rules) and in general I notice some small improvements, however the problem of CCleaner, which is always the one explained in my previous posts, remains and has not been solved!
Now do you have any other idea to understand where the problem is and then find the solution?
Thanks again and good work.

Ok, solved everything, the latest version of CrapCleaner, v.5.71.7971x64, with the latest version of Comodo Internet Security Premium, works (but the graphical interface loads slowly, before it appears on screen) without problems, however only this latest version of CCleaner, previous versions have always the same problem, that I described in my previous posts, with the latest version of Comodo, and the previous one. In any case thanks for your help.

Good to hear that you eventually got the combination working.

I'd also noticed that CCleaner v5.71 take a bit longer to load than previously, but it's not too bad here.

Yes even with version 5.72 everything is fine, all away (but here I think it's just a ccleaner bug) in the last version the interface/program always on top, and there is no way, unless I minimize it, to stay under another window; but I think that for this defect I will have to open another topic.

Anyway, thanks again and good work.
