neillharrell
I have 8,1 64 bit version CC Cleaner. I have always get the same message that I have to close Google Chrome, do you want CC Cleaner to close it for you. Won't close. I don't have Google Chrome, unless it is part of Google Earth. I have looked everywhere but I can't find it. But the files are always skipped after cleaning and it shows files in cache, history and cookies. Windows 8.1, Avira, IE and Firefox browsers (always closed when running CC) Did not see anything in HijackThis Thank you

Moderators mta Posted October 30, 2016 Moderators Share Posted October 30, 2016 There seems to be nothing in that list of 30 processes that would indicate a Google process is still running. But I estimate there are at least 50 more that we can't see. Have you tried running CC as soon as the PC starts, or even better, with the PC in Safe Mode, and seeing if CC still thinks Chrome is running? What version of CC are you using? Moderators Nergal Posted October 31, 2016 Moderators Share Posted October 31, 2016 I'm suspecting it's the avira browser. I can't find what that is (only found avira safe browse plugin) but I wonder if it isn't chrome based. Can you, with avira killed, run an analyze (right click chrome header is applications tab) on that entry and locate the files it finds ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Have you tried running CC as soon as the PC starts, or even better, with the PC in Safe Mode, and seeing if CC still thinks Chrome is running? What version of CC are you using? Professional trial. I also run Glary Utilities which is similar to CC but it does not ask to close Google Chrome. Ive run Glary before and after CC. If I run before CC it does not pickup Google, but CC will still ask if I want to close Google after Ive run Glary.. I clean/run both every night before turning off and/or sleeping the computer. I see nothing in HijackThis. My only other suspect is Vivaldi browser (which works better and faster than IE or Fox) but all browsers are closed before running CC or Glary. I guess in my old age (78) I am getting paranoid. I'll try the safe mode scan when I turn off tonight.
neillharrell
SOLVED I went through the Hijacklist again and found a Chrome update link that I missed, deleted that and ran CC again. This time it deleted all Google Chrome files. So, if the update service is left after you have deleted Google Chrome, CC cannot close anything related. neillharrell
So I ran CC again a few minutes later, a message pops up do you want to close Google Chrome? I say yes and CC completes with the following result. I use the Vivaldi browser to post the previous message. It seems Google Chrome is connected with Vivaldi although Vivaldi was closed when I ran CC. Maybe the updae had nothing to do with CC not working before but now it can close and delete Google Chrome files wherever they are coming from
Moderators Nergal Posted November 1, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 1, 2016 Vivaldi wasn't on your initial list, had it been someone would have mentioned it must be closed.
