curlywelch
I was running CCleaner 5.16 and tried updating to the newer versions from 5.17 to 5.19. Every one after 5.16 crashes or stops working just trying to open it. I would delete all and re-install 5.16 and it works fine. Any help on this? Moderators hazelnut Posted July 11, 2016 Moderators Share Posted July 11, 2016 Please try the SLIM build from here https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Download it and then install it. What operating system are you using? Where are you getting the update from that crashes? Moderators hazelnut Posted July 12, 2016 Moderators Share Posted July 12, 2016 Have you tried the SLIM build yet? Did you check that there wasn't an instance of Ccleaner already running when you tried to update? (you can use taskmanager to look) Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com

leland
I too have seen this. I have a machine with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 with all updates installed. 5.16 will run without issue. Anything higher and it opens and then promptly closes down. I was thinking it might be a UAC issue. I have been using a tweak for UAC using secpol.msc as shown at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/4-ways-to-make-uac-less-annoying-on-windows-vista/ using option number 2. I tried resetting it but no change. I tried both the regular version, the slim version and the portable version. I got a dump file with my last attempt on the portable version; I am attaching it within a ZIP file since I couldn't attach the DMP file directly. 5.16 works without issue. I use it on multiple operating system from XP all the way through Windows 10 and this is the first machine to ever give me issues. If you need more info to isolate the issue let me know. However I will be out of town until next Wednesday. So responses from me will be delayed. Thanks. mjSVCA
My problem is similar--vaguely. I am on W 8.1 and using free CCleaner v 5.20.5668 (64-bit). Background: I recently rejected W10 and reloaded W8.1, or rather MS reloaded W8.1 to my system. One of the first apps I downloaded was CCleaner. The first time I used it and every time since, the following happens: I open the app, I check the top category/block, I click Analyze and CC responds with a list of problems to be cleaned; I click Clean and CC does its thing and then immediately closes. I open it again, the first block is still checked and I verify that it has been cleaned by checking Analyze again and when the app shows 0% problems, I move to the next block . . .and the same thing happens again for each and every category/block. I have always cleaned my system in this exact same way beginning with Vista to my original OEM W8.1 (via Lenovo) and I have never had a problem. So did MS slip me a lemon version of W8.1 or . . .what? Thanks
