ioft
So my windows 8.1 just broke. I still have all my data but my taskbar was swiped clean. Pooki is gone so I ended up having to use the actual windows 8 start menu thing and when clicked on it is a blank blue screen. So I think this may have been caused by cleaning registries and I know for a fact that I chose to backup when asked by ccleaner. I'm not sure where to find it and I cannot search anything on windows for some reason, also the text is all the same even on browsers and many applications are blurry It says By default these files will be saved into your 'My Documents' folder. I cant find it in my "Documents" folder and don't have a "My Documents" Folder Please help!
ioft
Most if not all of my applications have reset. Its as if the computer has been reset for example I have to rechoose default programs to open file types.
Moderators Nergal Posted January 13, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 13, 2015 It should be in your default documents folder (check your onedrive too as 8.1 made default docs there I think) or search your computer for *.reg Next time you use any registry cleaner follow the advice in my signature ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. ioft
I figured out the registries should be in my documents folder but they are not there. So I think my only option is to move everything onto an external hard drive and restore my computer Thankyou for your help and advice!

ioft
I was able to search using the file explorer by dropping down the search tab and hitting "This pc" on the left though It didn't find or actually search instead it displayed everything And you where right It was in my OneDrive folder! <- I was confused here because It is not in my default Onedrive that displays on my computer but in a specific user onedrive I wanted to ask if the bad registries will affect a complete re install of windows 8. Moderators Andavari Posted January 14, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 14, 2015 The backup .reg files if imported "may save you from having to re-install Windows." I wanted to ask if the bad registries will affect a complete re install of windows 8. If you've already re-installed Windows I wouldn't use those backup .reg files at all, since after all you're starting fresh without issues.
