juckky
Hi, I stupidly ran CCleaner the other day and ran it with the default options. Now when I try and use any of the system related options in Control Panel they either don't work or the screen I get presented with has a few icons on it. but no text and the odd button that appears has no text on it. I also noticed that when I try and start MS Paint it now reads 'Unable to create new document' Event Viewer no longer starts Seems very hosed. Anyone have any suggestions? I was going to do a System Restore, but the available points are no longer valid and they fail too. Thanks
Moderators hazelnut Posted January 5, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 5, 2015 You need to give more information as just running CCleaner once with default options does not really result in the situation you describe.. What is your operating system? What build and version of CCleaner do you have? Did you use the registry cleaning part of CCleaner? What is your operating system? What build and version of CCleaner do you have? Did you use the registry cleaning part of CCleaner? Apologies. I am running 64 bit Windows 7 SP1 and CCleaner Free 5.01.5075 (64-bit) I did use the registry cleaner, and took a back up. I have reloaded the backup, but still the problem resides. If I right mouse click one of the hard drives on my machine and select properties is crashes explorer. I have been unable to deduce what else I have done for this to have occurred. (sfc) Run step 2 here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html Hi, Just tried that, and nothing happens. The command is accepted, but I get no log statement to tell me anything is happening So many things have stopped working. Unable to view Services, Task Manager does not display when selected. I think a format and reinstall is the only option here. Thanks for your help though
Moderators hazelnut Posted January 6, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 6, 2015 If you go to C:\Windows\System32\mspaint.exe can you open paint from there? Try running Windows Repair from Tweaking.com (a highly rated piece of software) choose the direct download, save to your PC and then run it) http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html Go straight to the repairs tab, untick them all first, and then put a tick in numbers 1, 2, 3, 26 and 27.(it will take a while to run) As a last attempt at something you could try creating a new user account and see if you can open things when running it. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/181024-user-account-create.html Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Moderators Andavari Posted January 6, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 6, 2015 Where'd you download CCleaner from? The amount of damage you've explained sounds like a possible malware infection.
