briannow
Monday 05 December, Windows 7 - just installed latest version of CC 3.13.1600 64 bit and Tools, Startup crashes, Windows confirms that CC has stopped working and has to close the programme? Moderators Nergal Posted December 6, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 6, 2011 Do either of you have any ie addons or Windows Explorer Addons? That's what has changed in the startup section. norton
Thanks for your reply Nergal but I am not sure I explained my problem clearly. I do not understand why IE addons should result in CCleaner stopping when I select the Startup list in the tools section? That is my problem CCleaner stops working when I click the start up list. The list does not compile and the page greys out. The other three tools on this page work ok. This has only happened since I downloaded the latest version 3.13.1600 I apologise if I have misled you with my first post. Or perhaps you could explain further your point about IE addons if you still consider that may be an issue with my CCleaner problem.
Moderators Nergal Posted December 7, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 7, 2011 Because the startup tool in ccleaner now contains IE Addons. one of yours is making the section Barf (yes that is the technical term) and thus crashing the program. I'm trying to find out which IE Addons or Explorer Addons you are using so the devs have something to recreate this with. 3.13.1600 is the first version to contain Addons in the startup tool ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. norton
Thanks Nergal for your interest. I look forward to your research into which IE addons in IE 9 could be causing the problem. I can't help if you don't tell me what addons you have (I'm not the developer I am a volunteer member of this forum no different than you); when I said I was researching. . . you are my research, I'm only guessing that this is a cause of the crash and you've yet to even confirm that for us yet. norton
Thanks Nergal for your latest reply. I have looked at my computer IE9 addons, tried disabling several which appeared none essential but no difference found with the operation of the startup list tool. I am now thinking I could delete Ccleaner and reinstall and see how that goes. Can you advise on the best method to delete Ccleaner so that I get a full and clean uninstall. My OS is Windows 7 64bit? Moderators Nergal Posted December 9, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 9, 2011 please understand, I don't want you to disable anything. I want for you to list them, so bugtesters (or even other members) can try to recreate this issue. The issue isn't the existence of the ieaddons, it's the way ccleaner is reading one or more of them that's causing the program to barf. norton
Hi Negal I entered c:\program files\ccleaner\ccleaner.exe into my command prompt window. The message came that this was not recognised as a command. Any idea what I have done wrong. I am pleased to see SlashEMc2k has added to my post and has attached a program log he has found. SlashEMc2k
are you sure you entered the right path to the ccleaner.exe? then you need to run ccleaner.exe /debug when you are in the right location within cmd prompt
norton
Hi SlashEMc2k Thanks for your reply but I am having no luck entering the debug command prompt and as you might guess I have tried entering several times and now in various permutations. The only time I get a positive response is when entering just c:\Program Files\Ccleaner\Ccleaner.exe and Ccleaner program opens. With debug added the message comes up this command is not recognised. As you might also guess I am not a computer expert but am willing to learn. Unless I can get further more specific guidance on my methods for correctly entering the required command prompt I will have to give up on solving the Startup Tool issue. Thanks for your help so far. Alan_B
Please put this into your command prompt "c:\program files\ccleaner\ccleaner.exe" /debug Sorry BUT that does not work for me. I too have Win7 64 bit and I do NOT have ccleaner.exe I have only ccleaner64.exe unzipped at E:\T\CCleaner\v313\T2 C:\Users\Alan>cd /d E:\T\CCleaner\v313\T2 E:\T\CCleaner\v313\T2>ccleaner.exe /debug 'ccleaner.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. E:\T\CCleaner\v313\T2>ccleaner64.exe /debug E:\T\CCleaner\v313\T2>ccleaner.exe /debug 'ccleaner.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. As you can see, there were no complaints about ccleaner64.exe /debug but two lines of aggravation about ccleaner.exe /debug In the past I found that when I unzipped the Portable CC it gave me both flavours, BUT when I launched the 32 bit version it always handed over to the 64 bit version. I no longer unzip the dead-weight of 32 bits so no hand-over. NB I only experienced hand-over when double clicking ccleaner.exe in Windows Explorer I assume that hand-over can also occur from a CMD.EXE prompt, but regrettably precious few assumptions about Windows will survive harsh reality. There should be no problems with "c:\program files\ccleaner\ccleaner64.exe" /debug

Moderators Nergal Posted December 11, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 11, 2011 @Norton your log doesn't show the crash look at slash's & you'll see the crash point. With slash's list of ie add-ons the developers should be able to work out what caused the crash. both @slash & @Norton please be sure to keep the dmp files created upon the debug crash @Alan thank you for noticing that Norton runs 64bit & my instructions were for a 32bit side note: @Alan any ideas what the branding.DLL error all 3 of you got might be? Moderators Nergal Posted December 12, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 12, 2011 @Norton, Your program is not crashing in that log, nor did you go into the startup section. In fact the one you posted is identical to Alan's perfectly working example above. Are you sure your issue is the same as the purpose of this thread? @Slash I really need a list of your addons. I'm 99% sure it's either one of the ones that is installed but not listed before the crash or it is the one list listed before the crash. but I need the list to even personally start debugging what is wrong the end of a functioning Startup listing looks like mine (attached below) but I need to know what to look at and especially the developers (who read every thread, but rarely comment until after we members have enough to have them look at it) need to know what to look at. In other words, if you ever want this bug, and it is a bug, even considered, I need that list typed out in this thread. Thank you both for your help. Moderators Nergal Posted December 12, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 12, 2011 Good now l I need is a list of all of your installed IE Addons (starting to feel like a broken record ) I do notice (this is just notice not suspect) you both have BlogThis at the bottom of your lists ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. norton
Nergal I have compiled a list of all the add-ons shown in my computer IE9 (I could not find anyway for automatically producing this list, am I missing something?) I hope this provides all the necessary info. I found that some items were repeated in my list. That is how they are shown in IE9 addons page? Moderators Nergal Posted December 13, 2011 Moderators Share Posted December 13, 2011 Thank you, this will help the developers I believe. BTW: why not uninstall some of the crapware you don't use (bing bar, ask toolbar) ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.
