Data Error Message

Recommended Posts

I just downloaded Recuva & tried to run my first scan. However, I get the following error message: Data error (cyclic redundency check). What does this mean? How can I fix it? I have no idea what happened to this Ext HD over the past week, but my system is no longer able to access any info on the drive even though the drive shows up in My Computer. Windows Vista suggested I format the disk to access it but then it gives me an error message saying it can't format the drive. Please help!

Hi, LHinton. Welcome to the forum.

I've not heard of this error message before now. I found this http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/cyclic-redundancy.html and this http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/hard-drive-support/61430-data-error-cyclic-redundancy-check-hard-drive.html

It's all I can offer. I hope that helps you.

Hi

I keep getting a "Data Exception Error" every time I go and access any of the stuff I have downloaded with "Bitcomet".

Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it.

Running Windows XP pro fully updated.

Thanks Truck

Does this question have anything to do with Recuva?

Sounds to me like a malware problem.

Computers infected with malware have been known to do that due to fake antivirus/remover software being installed, in addition to downloader trojans etc.

Recommend that you follow Piriform guides for backing up data & doing a malware scan.
