John A. Hockey
I am trying to figure our how to lower the percentage of fragmented files on my hard-drive. Ironically, I do not remember having such difficulty on earlier operating systems; however, I am running Vista and cannot seem to get it lower than 45%. What am I doing wrong? Aethec
Enable system files/folders view in Windows Explorer's Folder Options, and then add C:\System Volume Information\ to Defraggler's Exclude list. Vista/7 have much bigger System Restore Points, and they can't be defragmented. Piriform French translator
redhawk
You cannot reduce or stop file fragmentation this happens to all file systems when you delete and create new files. I wouldn't worry too much about it only if you're experiencing performance issues relating to file access. Richard S.
Anguskirk
I've been getting this since I upgraded to Windows 7 in June - Defraggler showing the same percentage fragmentation (up to 18%) before and after running, although the file list claims otherwise. Excluding System Volume Information has made no difference. redhawk - that's not the point. How can you tell when your drive needs defragmenting if the figure Defraggler reports doesn’t change? This is a bug and unless Piriform sorts it out soon I'll be looking for another defragmenter.
