rhodeye
A few days ago I got an email from Piriform saying there is a new version of Ccleaner so I followed the instructions and all I got was a desktop icon that has a box of dashes (no words). I get no results with either single or double clicking. What troubles me is I cannot delete it either. I tried this following site for downloading and installing.....http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds....and it worked but how do I delete the desktop shortcut that doesn't work? rhodeye
I don't know how to post screenshots. Just type in the address as it appears in my above message . It ought to work. Maybe someone else will post a screenshot for anyone else who has that problem.
ePost
There is no icon with a box of dashes on the site you linked to. A screenshot is taken like this: Open Paint -> go to your desktop so that you see the icon there -> hold Ctrl (Control) and Print Scrn (Print Screen) down at the same time -> go to Paint -> choose Edit -> Paste -> Save to your Desktop -> Adjust size -> Save again. Posting is easy. Just click the button in the circle. Then find the pic on your desktop and uplosd: You can also use a hosting site: Go to Tinypic (for example) and upload. No account needed. Copy the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" link and put in in your post. Moderators hazelnut Posted October 5, 2009 Moderators Share Posted October 5, 2009 Are you using Vista or Xp? When you right-click on the icon that you are having problems with and chose properties, what does it say the target is? Try booting into safe mode and deleting it http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml Or download unlocker and use that http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ Support contact https://support.ccleaner.com/s/contact-form?language=en_US&form=general or support@ccleaner.com
Alan_B
A few days ago I got an email from Piriform saying there is a new version of Ccleaner so I followed the instructions Did the instructions included clicking on a link in the email ? Are you sure the email came from Piriform, and not from some other entity that wants to use your PC ? Alan

rhodeye
somehow the icon for version 2.24 came on my desktop and I installed it successfully. I have windows ME and the icon I can't delete was gotten from a Piriform site. When I right click it all I get is a box of dashes.
Alan_B
somehow the icon for version 2.24 came on my desktop and I installed it successfully. I have windows ME and the icon I can't delete was gotten from a Piriform site. When I right click it all I get is a box of dashes. I followed your suggestion in post 2 and arrived at http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds Unless you mean the "C" with a paint brush at the top of the page then you were wrong, I have to choose one of 4 builds, and when I select the Standard build I see two icons suggesting Recuva and Defraggler. If you could give a screenshot it might be helpful. What is to you "a box of dashes" could be something else to some-one else, e.g. a box awaiting a password. If you could give a screenshot it might be helpful. Alternatively you can hover over the desktop icon and right click to select properties. That will show if it has been write protected, and what it is pointing to. Alan
