NottaProgramr
Does the portable version of Recuva (ver 1.11.257) do the same job as the Recuva ver 1.11.257 that requires installation? If it does than why install a program that can be run without installation? I've noticed other programs (Truecrypt comes to mind) that have both a portable and an install version. I wonder the same thing about them. My gut feeling is that sometimes installing a program can mess up a computer, so it is best not to install a program if you don't have to. Is my gut feeling wrong? I'd appreciate hearing what others have to say about this because I don't know. I'm --- --- NottaProgramr
Moderators hazelnut Posted March 15, 2008 Moderators Share Posted March 15, 2008 One good use of a portable version is it can be taken to a friends computer and used via a usb stick to help with problems etc. This avoids them having to use the computer to download anything if perhaps they have no internet connection, or don't want to use the computer for the download in case it overwrites something they are trying to recover. This applies to all portable apps many of which can be found here http://portableapps.com/apps Broowsers such as firefox and Opera have portable versions which give you a chance to run them from a usb stick to try them out without having to install them on your machine. NottaProgramr
Yes, I understand the value of "portable" application. What I don't understand is why install a program if that same program can be run by using a "portable" version that doesn't require any installation to do its thing.
