Moderators DennisD Posted February 15, 2008 Moderators Share Posted February 15, 2008 Might be something worth watching. Narrowstep: Joost: I might have heard of Joost before, but Narrowstep is a new one to me. Both are pretty good quality in picture and sound. Moderators Andavari Posted February 15, 2008 Moderators Share Posted February 15, 2008 Joost was also the name of a video game, now a classic from the 80's I think.
Moderators DennisD Posted February 16, 2008 Author Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2008 That's where I may have heard the name. A bit more info on the Joost TV. Since its closed beta launch in May 2007, Joost has been hampered by a lack of popular content in Europe. In the US viewers can watch Paramount movies in addition to TV shows from CBS, Warner and MTV, another subsidiary of Viacom. In contrast, UK users have been restricted to content such as clips of Fifth Gear and shorts from Aardman Animations. The addition of movies from Paramount is likely to encourage uptake of the Joost application, particularly when it launches publicly before the end of the year. The European launch of Paramount movies on Joost marks the first time a major Studio has offered content on an ad-supported basis in Europe. Paramount is using advertising to monetise a section of its catalogue that would otherwise have remained untapped, selling few copies on a transactional model. Consumers are willing to pay for digital new releases but old library titles, unless they have a certain cult status, are much less popular. Although this business model generates less revenue for a Studio on a per stream or download basis in comparison to digital retail or digital rental, it provides a supplementary source of income. Link: Watched a good quality documentary today, and took a couple of screenshots: All about Arachnaphobia. Don't you just love those critters. Anyway, quality wise, Joost looks promosing.
