tomcatonnet99
Is it possible to have a portable ready to clean anti-virus on a cd or flash-drive with all updates, ready to use without having to install on an infected comp as an immediate remedy? I use AVG and was wondering whether I could do the above to help mates when required.. ta
Moderators Andavari Posted September 14, 2007 Moderators Share Posted September 14, 2007 ClamWin Portable for Win98 and newer (free/open source). F-Prot Anti-Virus for DOS (freeware, direct download) for Win9x. Requires a full Win9x bootdisk to boot to the CD-R/CD-RW), you have to download and unzip the signature files into the F-Prot folder, then burn the whole F-Prot folder to the CD-R/CD-RW. Note: F-Prot DOS is no longer supported by Frisk Software, however it's still a valid on-demand antivirus solution for older Windows systems that have DOS. The current signature files still work with it - for now that is.
Moderators Andavari Posted September 14, 2007 Moderators Share Posted September 14, 2007 Just found this article on how to make F-Prot DOS work with NTFS on a bootable thumb drive.
Moderators rridgely Posted September 14, 2007 Moderators Share Posted September 14, 2007 Dr.Web Cure it is completely portable. Its just a .exe file. You would just need to get the newest version before you run it. http://www.freedrweb.com/
Moderators Andavari Posted September 14, 2007 Moderators Share Posted September 14, 2007 Dr.Web free scanner is portable, it however does write registry keys for the settings. There's also the free online scanners, which only require an Internet connection. However depending upon how infected a system is it may have a damaged Internet connection, or one that can't be trusted due to infection.
