Hello All!
Just looking around and evaluating some apps. The ones that I've been playing with tonight are.
Process Explorer by Sysinternals. http://www.sysinternals.com
Task Info by Iarsn http://www.iarsn.com/taskinfo.html
I've used these programs in the past but not lately. It was time to check in on them and see what improvements they've made. The above 2 programs show you the same info but in different ways.
Another one that I use often is siw.exe http://www.gtopala.com/
There was another processor monitor that has a security module attached to it. It would tell you if it was spyware and have a color associated with the app. I just can't remember the name of it.
What other info programs do you use?

These programs sound promising but that is just it. Until you test them. You won't know for sure. If I have some free time I'll put these programs on my test bed environment.

LOL! If it works use it! I've seen like those fan bases. You could place the laptop on one of those. Personally, I don't know how well they work.Prop it up on Legos. -
Hello All!
I'm working on installing a network monitor in my network. Does anyone know of are how to install a network tap? Years ago at one of my companies I used to work. I installed one, but it was pre-built. The machine cost like $3k. It contained 2 special network cards and some special software to capture the traffic. We used 2 of them for upstream and downstream traffic. The log files the Proprietary software spit out where HUGE! The company was call Genetron, Network General, today it's Network Associates.
I'd like to build one for home use and keep an eye out on what people are doing and where and why. Read this link you'll find out why? Linux software only.
Now where should I install the tap before my firewall or afterwards. If I install it before, I'll be able to capture and detect OSPF traffic. The sad thing is this is for my WIRED network this doesn't include my WIFI clients. That is another BEAST in itself.

Once the program is completed, the command prompt is stuck in full screen mode. Is there anyway to get it to go back to normal window display mode after you enter full screen mode. currently we have to use the windows key to get out, then go in and manually select that we want the window display.
You can use Alt-Enter to get into and out of full screen mode.

thanks for the dr. web, never noticed a plug-in before.Dr. Web anti virus link checker -
Thanks, I'll play around with it. I'm looking at it right now...Best tag editor right here:That program saved me not hours but DAYS when I decided to organize my music.
-
Tag Frontend w/tag is that a tag editor? I need to do some tagging myself around 2700 songs. What is the easiest way to do that many songs. One of my problems with my mp3 player is finding the damn music to begin with. Then making the playlist is another story. If it supports standard playlists like .M3U you could make those in Winamp, Foobar2000, Tag Frontend w/Tag, etc. -
Make sure you turn off your write behind cache. That will ensure that you won't loose anything.
-
I wish it was that easy. My MP3 player is a reall pain in the A$$. Making a playlist on the fly with mine is hell. I have a Creative Labs Zen USB 2.0. Paid way too much for it. At the time it was worth $324. Now, it can go to the scrap heap! It's permament home is the car. My fiance is getting one for xmas. It's unbelieve how much loot you spend on women, woman, wife....

That's the sad thing is that I'll have to get the bigger drive to hold everything. I don't have any more room on the drives that I have in the server. With the bigger drive I could mount reiserfs and move everything from the ntfs drives over to it. It won't be a problem since I'm not writing to the ntfs volumns only moving the data.probably. you could just re-size the partitions continuously and put the data from 1 partition to the other(NTFS to ReiserFS or w/e you're gonna use).

Hello All!
Right now I got Win2k Adv Srv running as my file server. Three drives are all in NTFS format. I'd like to get some kind of file server version of Linux. I know that there are version of Linux that can read NTFS but not write to it. Knowing that, is there a way that I can convert it to Ext3 or ReiserFS so Linux can read and write to them. Am I stuck getting a 500 mb hdd and xferring everything over to it?
1. Is there a Linux distro for file servers or I'll have to settle for Samba?
2. With Samba I'm not to familiar with file permission as I am with Windows.
3. I'll need several partions for backup and file storage.
Thanks,
-
Evedience Eliminator is the best I've seen yet. If I had to deal with this stuff? Take the hard drive to a clean room take it apart and do a magnet reconstruction of the data bit by bit.thats right. but some spy s**t or whatever should be removed the hard way.

LOL, that's the one that installed now.i would try installing an all in one codec pack such as this,http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All_in_1.htm
and uninstall the other ones
-
LOL, Something is screwed up alright! I believe it's a codec, but I already tried 2 different packs. No problem playing AVI files.robotic as in somethings screwed up or robotic as in a sound changer that changes it to sound robotic? -
Yep the machine was that way from the start. Was the computer like this right when you opened it up?First I would probably test the ram with memtest. Sure the computer is new but maybe something is wrong. Then I would try restoring to factory defaults with whatever recovery media the pc came with. If that doesn't work I guess you could call their tech support since the computer is obviously still under warranty.
I have memtest and will run it.
I rebuilt the machine with XP Pro and it still behaves the same.
2 Year Warranty.

Well another problem for Missy machine. I just installed 2 seperate Codec packs and I get robotic noises from DVDs. AVI and others play fine.
Any ideas. Damn thing sounds like something out of the Terminator!
Thanks,
-
I've looked in the BIOS for it and it's not even a setting to change it.In the bios you can usually configure the amount of ram allocated to the onboard video.(or the computers I've used you could)I'm not sure what your describing though. Is windows just not responding at all?
The machine just doesn't act like your normal windows desktop. It responses but not the way you would expect it to. It's very weird. I've never seen this kind of behavior in all of the years I've worked with computers.

I've taken your advise and ordered another DDR 400 512 mb or ram for her machine along with a WinTV-PVR-500 MCE-Kit with NTSC TV Tuner and Media Center Remote Control. I'll install GB-PVR to record Ghost Hunters, BSG for later retreival off of my server.
Thanks for the help,

Hello All!
I've been running OPEN DNS for the past few days. So far it's been running great. The pages seem to be a lil more speedier. Also, I've updated my internet connection from 3mb to 10mb. So, in reality I can't really tell if it's OPEN DNS or my new speed upgrade.
