  1. Do you experience the same slow down if your Vista machine is connected via wired LAN??

What make of router do you have??

What is your connection type (i.e. a,b,g,n,i) and signal strength??

Do you have any wireless devices nearby, cordless phones, TV senders??

Try a different channel number in the router setup in case you're experiencing interference.

Never hard wired it to the Linksys WRT54GS, Tomato modded (not the problem I'm sure). One thing I've notice all of the time too, google kind of highjacks my pc, i.e. I pretty much have to go back to a cached page or else that takes a long time too.

  2. So I have an XP SP3 desktop hardwired to my router. The Vista SP1 or whatever the most up to date SP is, is on the same network wirelessly. A sampling of some of the "Add Stuff" sites I have are WebMD,PC World,Gizmodo, ESPN, Download Squad, and Life Hacker. When I attempt to open a featured link on any of those sites (or any other from my igoogle page) the desktop takes forever, like the sites servers are overloaded or you are attempting to download video files. The same links on the laptop open immediately. My XP works great and sites from bookmarks or other links render normally (as in quick!). Security on both PCs is about the same, although the lp also has Mamutu and they both have the same Firefox version (3.6.6) and options (I think for the most part). So what could be going on? Thank You!

  3. So I cracked the case on a hunch! Fortunately I do that quite often. I'm in my sixties so I'm way behind on the PC curve. Anyway, I'd installed a PCI card to accommodate the USB keyboard. Noting that every thing concerning USB was on or enabled in the BIOS, I plugged the printer into one of the new card ports (tested it, all features work) and plugged the keyboard into the port that the printer was using, which is one of the ones native to the tower, and that took care of it! Thanks for your help!

  4. XP desktop, Pentium 4, Board: Dell Computer Corp. 0G1548 A00, BIOS: Dell Computer Corporation A05 12/02/2003.

I want to configure the BIOS so I can use my USB keyboard and still enter the BIOS. I've gone in from a PS/2 but can't figure out what to change or if the capability exists with this board/BIOS.

Under Integrated Devices (Legacy Select Options) I see the following possibilities, the rest of the options are enabled or probably not relevant.

Serial Port 1: Auto (selected), other options Com 1,2 or 3, Off

Parallel Port: Mode PS/2 (selected), other option I/O Address 378h

Diskette Interface (probably has nothing to do with it!): Auto (selected), Read Only or Off

    Thank you for any input!

  5. How do you change (delete/re-image) snapshots? See, the thing that is quite scary about the RollBack, EAZ-FIX, AyRecovery and Comodo Time Machine clones, is they always boot into "them", so to speak. If they become corrupted for some reason your PC is nuked as your MBR is now toast. I could easily live with one snapshot as I rarely have more than six or seven and usually only restore to the last one anyway. On the positive side, I agree with you hazelnut, that snapshots are the greatest thing. For the past 16 months AyRecovery and CTM have been miracle workers...but there is risk! Read what did happen to me last week on my Vista laptop:

  6. Do you use Sandboxie slowday?

Yes I was aware of it and had updated Sb. I think Comodo time Machine was the problem, even though it also saved me. I guess that ...83 update goes to the kernel level and that is the problem. I'm all updated now with the exception of that one.

  7. Had to restore my Pc today as MS Updates nuked it. About a month to two months ago I installed a little program that changed the cursor to blue, then green, to red etc. as it was opening files/programs. I can't remember its name and I did search but can't find any hits for exactly what I'm looking for. Hazelnut usually comes through with this stuff! lol Thank You!

  8. If your PC is that old (like mine) I strongly suspect the mother board only accepts PCI cards as opposed to PCI Express (PCIe) cards. That greatly reduces your options but more importantly should answer your question in this thread. The other thing to consider is what type of ports does it have and do you need. If you have a good LCD monitor or are planning to upgrade to one (which you could use with a newer system down the road) you'll want to make sure the card has DVI or even HDMI ports if your monitor has them.

  9. No issues on a Vista laptop. Updates immediately after a boot if I haven't used the LT for a few days and updates at the very least once more during the day. And indeed, this is just the free version. Do the custom install if you don't want certain shields, e.g. Messaging Shield, although you can also disable them if they are installed.

  10. First of all, I hate the large blue arrow that replaces all the hidden icons in the notification area. Secondly, I actually want most if not all, e.g. Sandboxie loads when I open Ff. From the icon I can I can delete contents of the sandbox or open its settings. Weather Pulse icon to view forecast, settings, etc. All of the anti-malware icons assure me they are functioning and up to date. Recently I've enabled the Volume icon to mute as some sites open with sounds and I don't want to wake my wife as I get up early. Last but not least, I monitor my HD temp and RAM usage.

I fixed the problem by: Display Properties>Appearance>Advanced>increase the size of Active Title Bar (it also changes the inactive). Took a while to figure that one out. Wish Windows spoke English! lol
