  1. alot and the more windows you open the more memory it takes up. I have it but hardly use it because of that, just don't like it at all

That's surprising since the install file is less than a Meg in size. Thanks for the info though.

I've never used an app like Sandboxie, so I'm reading more about it and trying to decide if it's worth while. Another layer of protection is always a good thing, but if it's a RAM hog and just slows the computer down, it's probably not worth it to me.

  2. I recently went back to IE8 too. I tried it a few months ago and got the exact same slow-downs as you. I don't think the issue is where you download it from though, because BOTH times I tried it, I downloaded it though Microsoft Update.

I tried version 8 a few months ago and experienced VERY slow booting and VERY slow loading of applications. I reverted back to IE7, and all was back to normal. After trying IE8 again last weekend, everything was still running at it's normal fast speed. I think Microsoft became aware of an issue with IE8 running on certain machines and resolved it on their end.

  3. It does have a bit of a learning curve, however it can do much.

Yeah it does. I usually don't have much trouble learning new software, but Avidemux has been an exception. I'm figuring it out though, and I'm getting the feeling I'm only beginning to scratch the surface of it's ability. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for video editing software.

  4. I need some help with some basic video editing I'm doing for a friend. Basically, she wants certain segments pulled out of a video, and then spliced back together so it plays smoothly through. I successfully used Avidemux to take out the proper segments, and each is now saved as it's own video file. I have not been able to find any software that will combine those segments into one media file so each segment will play simultaneously. Can anyone help me out here?

  5. TeeJay, thanks for trying our app and sorry it gave you trouble! If you contact us we can often tell what went wrong, it's usually a combination of factors that can cause a driver to install incorrectly.

I have a Dell Vostro 1000. I did a scan in Device Doctor, downloaded and installed the recommend video and sound card drivers, and then rebooted. After installing those drivers, I get an error after Windows finishes booting saying something like "the video driver you have installed is not compatible with Catalyst Control Center." So I went to ATI's site and downloaded the latest version of CCC (I have an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150), but that didn't fix the problem. As for the sound driver, I had no sound and all, and in the Volume Control window, it says something about Bluetooth audio rather than "SigmaTel Audio" like it used to say. I went to the Dell Support site, downloaded the video and sound card drivers, and everything now works perfectly again. I didn't mean to knock your software, since it actually seems pretty useful, but with both drivers I tried not working well or not at all, my experience was not a good one.

  6. It seems like a nice little tool, but I'm already a little skeptical. Amazingly, it found 31 driver updates! I don't fully trust it though because I often check the Dell Support page for my computer and have all the latest updates installed (according to the manufacturer). That's why I don't quite understand how so many updates have been found for nearly every device on my computer...video card, sound card, processor, etc.

EDIT: DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE! I just "updated" my video and sound card drivers using the drivers recommended and provided by Device Doctor, and I get several errors each time I boot, and I have no sound. I am in the process of reverting back to the Dell-supplied drivers, but I will never touch this worthless tool again!

  7. I've been using CCleaner's registry cleaner since 2005, and have never once had a single problem caused by the removal of items that are cleaned.

As far as bug's being ignored/disregarded, that does seem to be true sometimes. It's as if certain problems just aren't important enough to the developers, so they don't matter. However, this is free software that overall is EXCELLENT, so I'm not going to complain. CCleaner is the ONLY system cleaner I trust and is constantly being improved, so it's in my top three of recommended apps (and has been for years). :)

  8. As you can see in the pic below, after running CCleaner and selecting "Windows - Windows Update Logs" from the list, all the items that have been cleaned are shown, not just the Windows Update Logs.

This is in CCleaner v2.23.993 in Windows 2000 SP4.

EDIT: the topic should said say "Bug with categorized summary"

  9. Only as beta though (before anyone goes rushing off to download thinking otherwise ;) )

Yes true, it's Beta. I felt confident posting that version though, because I've never had a single bug or crash when any of the Opera 10 preview/alpha/beta/RC releases.

Still, those wary of Beta releases should be aware that the final version of Opera 10 with Unite isn't out yet.

  10. What is the install path for Opera? Does it include "opera 9" in the path or not?

No, it doesn't. The default installation location for Opera does not include any version information at all. For every version of Opera I've ever used, the installation path was Program Files\Opera.
