  1. Try this steps :

    1. Go to CMD and type ' GoogleUpdaterService /UnregServer ' (no qoutes)

    2. Delete GoogleUpdaterService.exe manually

Thanks, but when I tried step 1, I got an error saying that "'GoogleUpdaterService' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." As for step 2, there is no file on my system with that name, or anything with the word "Google" in it.

  2. I'm putting this in Software, since I don't know where else to put it. I used to have Google Updater installed, but have uninstalled it long ago. I recently noticed (after using WinPatrol for the first time), that there is still a Google Updater service installed. It's set to manual and isn't currently running, but I'd like to delete it since obviously it is no longer necessary. How do I go about doing that?

  3. 1. Computers. the programs used to direct the operation of a computer, as well as documentation giving instructions on how to use them. Compare hardware (def. 5).

    2. anything that is not hardware but is used with hardware, esp. audiovisual materials, as film, tapes, records, etc.: a studio fully equipped but lacking software.

    3. Television Slang. prepackaged materials, as movies or reruns, used to fill out the major part of a station's program schedule

    Clearly it is software. :)

I'm aware of what software is, and I still think posts about hosts files belong in the Windows Security forum.

Threads about anti-virus software are about.....software, yet they still get posted in the Windows Security forum.

It was just a friendly suggestion, but hey, what do I know? You're the mod! :)

  4. The Yahoo Toolbar discussion is old news! Please lets bury it forever and not have a re-visit discussion of it. Piriform clearly offers other builds without it therefore it's not an issue.

Those other smaller builds can be found on the download page for all Piriform software!

You're right, but it still gets brought up from time to time, so maybe that info should be in a sticky?

  5. I think TeeJay that TallDog was just mentioning another app in the Karenware range that he uses.

I know, I was just mentioning a smaller alternative.

Thanks for posting the Karenware apps. A couple of them look very useful.

  6. I think this is THE ANSWER,TeeJay3800 ;)

Thanks, abu. Unfortunately, even after following the instructions in that link and then uninstalling/reinstalling Sandboxie, I STILL get the same error. I'm at a loss at this point. We'll see what the Sandboxie forum says.

Sandboxie did not lidt that under System Requirements in their FAQs. Not Nice of them! :P

Unfortunately, that's not uncommon. Windows 2000 is often listed as being "officially supported", but there is no mention of things like this that prevent the app from functioning on Win2k.

EDIT: The problem is resolved and Sandboxie is working great! If anyone else encounters the same problem, see here for info: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=41747.
