  1. Crucial is all right...it's ActiveX Control is all good, so you needn't worry.

If you feel like posting what is in your system...I will still help.

A GB of RAM is not to bad.... if you are running integrated graphics instead of a separate card, that would be a better bet in what you need to upgrade.

  2. craigathus - run the scan again please and take a screen shot and post it......try to get everything...if you have to do it in to...that fine... I want to see exactly what the Crucial scan showed you.

I'll try to help you out once you post back.

    Thanks

  3. Mobo = Motherboard.

You could go to Crucial.com and use the "Scan My System" button on the main page. (Only works with Internet Explorer or with the IE Tab extension in Firefox.) Click to agree to the Terms and Conditions and let it run. The page it comes up with RAM options... but on the left side of the screen, it has a bunch of text boxes; check the one that says video card, and un-check the others. Then, click on the ones that it shows, and it will tell you if it's AGP or PCI.

  5. dual boot what? Where did we even say anything about dual booting..

I had a linux dual boot on my laptop once but linux sucks so I got rid of it. :P (well linux hardware detection sucks not the OS as a whole.)

krit86lr said "and install my xp sp2 CD. I might even use the x64 platform version, never used that one before." So I thought he could do both... XP SP 2 and XP 64 just because he could....

What Linux were you using? I heard Ubuntu is real good about detection, but drivers for newer video cards (8800's) wasn't good...

  6. yep! If I don't find the disc soon I am just going to format, and install my xp sp2 CD. I might even use the x64 platform version, never used that one before.

I would not go with xp 64 or vista 64 for that matter.

The reason is that a vast majority of software still isn't 64bit ready. From what I've read more and more are becoming compatible but most places are saying the small difference isn't worth the hassle of incompatibility.

You won't dual boot?!!?!? No balls :lol::P JK JK !!!!

Ya.... how much did that system cost?? It couldn't have been more than a few hundred...cause it isn't a Core 2, and the GFX chip isn't top of the line...

  7. A comp froze with McAfee on it, somehow that doesn't seem out of the ordinary.

Haha...it was on my Dell.... I deleted it...hated it...and put on Norton..much more reliable.

  8. Looks good...the only thing is.... unless I'm mistaken, you won't have DirectX 10 functionality with that integrated card.... but I'm assuming you aren't buying this laptop for gaming, more of a overall good work notebook??
