  1. That is the most absurd explanation that I've ever seen Tarun. Those kinds of people exist EVERYWHERE. Even on our happy little forums. But there are normal people there as well.

There is now a security feature on myspace to protect yourself from the weirdos. You can make your profile private now without lying about your age.

Myspace is fine. I have found lots of old friends and stuff which is fun. :P

  2. Hazelnut I am aware of your awesome web searching abilities so I have a silly favor to ask of you. :)

If you would know where to look, try to find a website to print or download piano kids songs by number with the full song. The songs need to be something that a 3 and 6 year old would know. They have a piano/organ with numbers that they can use.

I'm not sure how to search for that. Did I explain clearly what I am looking for?

  3. Although I can't speak for Tarun it should be easy enough to envoke by opening RegEdit and removing the permissions on either some known entries that get flagged by the Issues scanner, or by creating some bad entries without full permissions which cause the Issues scanner to detect them.

Can you give me an example of a known entry please? Thanks Andavari. :P Hi

EDIT: nvm, there is an easy way for me to answer my own question. LOL

  4. Getting caught spying = get dumped for being a psychopath.

Wow! I have a new level of respect for you E. That's one of the best things you've ever said.

And I agree. @Hazelnut - you're right about the trust issue.

  5. "DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service usnsvc with arguments "" in order to run the server:

    {736F8997-C651-4C45-BC43-8AF8369890F1}"

Which service is that I need to start?

    Thanks!

By any chance were you trying to use Messenger when this error occurred? The error stated that it was trying to start the usnsvc service which is used for Messenger. I would set that to manual so that it can turn itself on only when needed.

  6. I'm interested in this topic for a one main reason. I was using disk keeper lite for a few months. Then one day I ran the compatibility wizard off of my installation CD, and it said that disk keeper wasn't compatible so I uninstalled it.

I am currently using PerfectDisk7.0, although I'm not sure that it makes more of a diff than Windows defrag. I'm not convinced that a 3rd party defrag app is needed for my little pc. kwim?

  7. Thanks for the offer, krit86lr. I would like to get my downloads running correctly and I note what you say about DAF being safe for newbies. However, as I said earlier, I took a look at the DAF site and as a novice I was knocked back by the Warnings about what it might do to my PC, but my particular worry was the Integrity Check List, which looks as though it would take me forever to work through, even if I understood half of it :( . My question at this stage is: would I really have to work through all that daunting Integrity Check List stuff before running DAF?? Or can I just go ahead and download it?

DAF is safe for newbies, it looks intimidating but it is easy as pie. I'm sure that DjLizard put that Integrity Check List there for a reason so I won't discourage you from the list, although I've never encouraged anyone to worry about the list either.

Simply put, using DAF to repair your permissions is no biggy. It will turn off your Limited User Accounts (such as your Guest Account), but that is all.

This is the thing though. Because we have acknowledged that it was the Standard Build that couldn't be downloaded then I am seriously finding this to be a security issue then.

Did you turn McAfee off, and try downloading it? :)

  8. I would just like to mention that if people backed up their PC's, as responsible users should....then this wouldn't even be an issue.

I would much rather support the idea of encouraging people to take the responsibility, and little effort to back up their pc's which will protect against any program that might cause problems. :)

  9. Thanks for the advice, rridgely. I certainly don't think I'm ready to join the big boys yet, so I had better not try DAF.

Once again, many thanks to all who have helped me with my problem. It is good of you to share your knowledge and precious time so willingly.

Well I think that one of 2 things is causing your download problems.

It's possible that you have security software that is blocking certain downloads. The reason that the Basic version could be blocked from downloading is because it's bundled with the Yahoo Toolbar, and some security apps will block it.

It's also possible that your permissions are corrupted, and therefore messing up your downloading rights.

DAF is safe, I use it often, and specifically tell new people to use it to fix things so that they can't mess something up. ;)

Would you like the manual instructions for repairing your permissions?

Glad that you have made some progress! :)

  10. Okay, then something else is going on here. Renard do this for me.

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts

Now under your username does it say Computer Administrator? If it does, then do this.

"Run the Repair Permissions tool in Dial-a-fix. This will fix it 90% of the time. If you are unable to run this tool, try it in "Safe mode with command prompt". Once you extract DAF, double click on Dial-a-fix.exe, click Tools, click Repair Permissions, and click GO. After the permissions repair completes, reboot your PC. Then try downloading again."

    Download DAF here.

Let us know how it goes. :)

  13. Hi solo and welcome! :)

    I understand your concerns.

    1. First of all, always make a back-up when fixing issues. After a few days, if you aren't experiencing any problems then delete your backup. It is rare that a backup needs to be restored, but it is possible so it's best to make a backup. Fixing Issues is cleaning your registry, which should never be taken lightly which is why there is a prompt to backup any changes. CCleaner is about the safest reg cleaner out there, but it's ALWAYS best to be safe. ;)

    2. Gmail can be changed to standard if that's what you would like, personally that is what I use.

    3. I am not quite sure why any Gmail settings were altered, but my hunch is that the settings were altered by an update, and not by CCleaner. I use CCleaner multiple times a day, and my settings in Gmail are fine. But!! In the recent past, I have had updates mess up my Gmail account. :P Remember that Gmail is still Beta so some of the glitches are still being worked out on Google's end.

Hope I answered your questions. Feel free to ask for more clarification if I missed something.
