  1. Yeah, my friends send me a lot of music and videos, so it adds up. Plus, whenever you send an attachment, it stays in your sent mail, and if you send the same attachment to someone else later on, Gmail copies it. So if I send an 8 MB video to three different people at three different times, there goes 24 MB!

  2. Yeah, I got 2 GBs of Corsair @ 400. Same proc as yours (it was only $3 more than the 3000!). 300 GB Maxtor with a 16 MB cache (crazy fast; bigger cache makes all the difference). The PSU is just some 500 watt that came with the case, which is an Aspire X-Navigator.

  3. That is a good point; I for one wouldn't particularly like it to update automatically. But maybe the option could be given for those who want it. There could be an option under Options to "Install updates manually", and the box would be checked as a default. But then if there are people who would like their updates to be downloaded and installed automatically, you could uncheck the box.

  4. Stereo means that it is encoded in two channels. I dont see you can change that in some converting way so it becomes 5.1 (?) channels?

I agree with Eldmannen. That is the absolute stupidest thing I have ever heard! You can't get something from nothing. The program most likely has algorithyms that simulate 5.1 surround, but all it will be is stereo coming out of 6 speakers; nothing more.

  5. It's almost ready for public testing, so here's the current change log.

    v1.27.xxx

    - Added secure file deletion...

    ...- Restyled Startup program list...

    Wiping is hear!

Also, Startup list restyling sounds interesting.

    Very cool stuff, MrG!

  6. When i was looking to buy a graphics card a while ago, (i bought a 7800) i scoured the internet for everything, and at the moment nvidia is going a lot stronger than ati.

Well, I definitely agree that Nvidia's high-end cards stomp on ATI. Just seeing "7800", and now my keyboard is covered in drool. I'd love to see 3DMark 2005 on your rig!

But I still like ATI's old GPUs, and any less-than-the-highest-end rigs I build in the future will probably house them.

  7. Well, I used Winamp 5 for a very short period of time when it came out, but I didn't really like it. The fact that AOL owns it now is an even bigger turn-off, since I despise AOL and all of their products. But maybe I need to give it a second chance. I'll download it and check it out.

I do like the VLC Media Player, but the last version I used was 0.8.2, which was horrendously buggy! Barely even usable!

  8. I will find out if Intel runs cooler than AMD.

Definitely not! That is AMD's big selling point: less pipelines and a lower clock speed, which causes it to run much cooler and more efficiently. But by no means is AMD slower! AMD gets more processing done per cycle than Intel, so it effectively goes faster and still generates less heat.

  9. I would suggest you try Foobar2000, looks brilliant(once configured), sounds brilliant and has a plugin for more or less everything you may want it to do.

Foobar is still a beta; does it have any major bugs or system compromising issues that you guys have noticed? I've heard a lot of positive opinions of it, but I try to avoid beta apps as often as possible.

  10. Buy a $200-300 ATI and benchmark it against an Nvidia card priced the same, and tell me which one gets better frame rates. :D

Obviously, once you get closer to $500-600, that is when Nvidia takes over, but ATI rules the budget world, and no one can reasonably deny it.

  11. Then i actually looked and realized that my 12v line was running at 11.39v stupid me!

Ah, kobrakommander56, you never cease to make me smile. :D

No, if it makes you feel better, I have a stupid PC repair story as well. I was trying to install some SDRAM into an old computer, and as you know sometimes RAM can be a little difficult to get into the slot. So I was pushing and pushing and couldn't figure out why in the heck it wouldn't go in right. O, that's right, I had it in backwards! Doh!
