  1. i don't use TweakUI, but dial-a-fix has a similar feature :). the Kelly's Korner thing didn't work but yours did. the only thing that doesn't work is the thumbnail preview(the top part when you set the folder to thumbnails), but that's never worked so...

  2. recently, i downloaded an image pack from deviantart(nice and black too) and i saw that there was an icon for the .ico file. so i changed the icon for all .ico files via "Folder Options" in control panel.

now here's the issue. normal .ico files show the custom .ico custom icon before explorer loads the real icons. HOWEVER, .ico files that have a compressed PNG inside them(see screenshot below) don't even load. what's weird about that is that they used to load before, but not anymore.

so does anyone know a fix for that or do i have to do a system restore?

edit: bleh. the "Icon/Cursor Load Options" thingy was supposed to be on top of the other windows. oh well

  3. VLC for Video

i've heard that VLC is just a broken version of ffmpeg. i tried VLC once and i absolutely hated it. it showed purple instead of white subtitles, it has a crappy GUI(what's with the volume control?), and it has even crashed once. for me, ffdshow(latest build) and Media Player Classic(latest build) work wonders.

  4. The future version will have the fancy one, "Normal" a lite version which is similar to XP, and Classic.

...are you talking about Windows Vista Home Basic? because that version of Vista will not have Aero. Windows Vista Home Premium will however.

  5. neiberaaron: that would work if he actually knew what he needs to set a file assosciation to.

back on topic: which browser are you using? from that messagebox, i can only tell that the file which was no assosciated was a "url:" one. if you're using Firefox, Opera, and maybe others, there's an option to set the file assosciations so that RocketDock can work properly.

at RocketDock: i've tried it once and i absolutely hated it. it didn't have one good skin(out of all the 20 or w/e number that it has), it flickered a lot(i guess GDI+'s fault), and it didn't show if the application was active even though it hooks a dll into every program that it launches. if you're gonna inject a dll into a program and not display if it's active, then what's the point of even having that dll in the first place? for a dock, i use the latest RK Launcher nightly build. it works like a charm and doesn't give me any problems. i also use the realdock skin which is nice as well.

  6. "Uninstall Tool". the icon can be found on my dock next to the picture of the UK flag. i use it instead of CCleaner now because i only used CCleaner for uninstalling programs(Add/Remove is extremely slow).

  7. RK Launcher crashing? that's weird. i'm using the larest nightly build and it hasn't been crashing at all here. as for RocketDock, i gave it a go and i didn't like it a lot. the skins there weren't that great and it also didn't show if the process(like Opera) is currently being used. it also flickered randomly at times. so RocketDock is not for me.

as for editing the shell32.dll file, ResHacker is the only tool that actually works. i've tried TGTSoft's ResEdit and some program called XM Resource Editor and none of them were able to replace the images inside.

  8. the help and support service is close to useless. that's why i have it disabled :)

as for the service that needs to be started it's called "DCOM Server Process Launcher"
