  1. I tested (on a small amateur scale) a few programs and they were even slower. Revo Uninstaller for example does a fine but slow job cleaning freespace but it's a very, very aggressive program, that I do not dare to recommend. I only use it after having backed up everything. Inside Dial-a-fix one can also find cleaning tools (sort of) that will give you more freespace. They are well hidden behind a very small hammer icon. Unfortunately the program's main functions doesn't support Vista, Windows 7 or even quite a few of IE8's features. There is also a risk involved in using the advanced DAF tools. Some of them can't be used if IE8 is installed and it'll ruin IE8 if you try.

It's really a tragedy that Dial-a-fix is not updated.

  2. Blast! :P I'd just gotten my hopes up. Wiki say's it will become obsolete...

And yes, Silverlight is not the worst thing that has happened. About time Flash got some competition.

  3. No, I don't think so. But then: I always delete all of them. Have done so for years. Nothing ever happens. If you're unsure you can let Microsoft delete them. The free scanner in my signature will take care of them. Microsoft cleaning Microsoft. Just as safely as CCleaner would have done it...

  4. Well, yes. Photos and processes like editing them will benefit form it. But it needs company like a faster processor and lots of RAM.

It's also about being ready for the future. My PC started having issues with capacity after just 3 years. That's just not good enough. I want the next to last for 5 or 6 years.

  5. please explain it to me..

i'm kind of a noob when it comes to these things

It's not difficult. Uninstall CCleaner as suggested above. The go and get the new download. Now copy one of these with your mouse and let it sit there: C:\Program Files\Pirifom\CCleaner or c\program files\ccleaner.

Watch very carefully as the install promts on your screen change. One one of them CCleaner will suggest an install path. But the path you want is the one sitting in your mouse. So just delete the suggested path and paste the preferred path from your mouse into the promt. Finish the install.

And that's basically all there is to it.

  6. No. Games and other things like that demands more and more from your PC. Same for some websites. I intend to get a new PC with a lot of muscles of this kind.

  7. Nice find, Hazel. :D Now we only need the talents to get something sensible out of it! BBC didn't succeed in finding any, I think. :P Eigenharp. I like the name. B) The spell checker haven't learned it yet.

In the video they say "it". So how is the name pronounced? Is a dje or a sharp g sound?

  8. You're welcome. I have tested all the updaters I could find. And I have concluded that Secunia PSI and Update Notifier from CleanSofts.org are the best and I run both. A view shared by Gizmo at TechSupportAlert by the way.

Secunia also offers this service in the form of an online scanner. Free, of cause.

One significant advantage these programs will give you is that they actually recommends updates in the same language as you OS. The importance of this cannot be underestimated.

  9. No, not yet it seems. I guess that they want to divide the run on their servers into smaller lumps. Paying costumers get the new version first. But the new free AVG link scanner is out, I read somewhere. However I can't find a confirmation of this on their homepage...

  10. Well, I actually trust the reports about a significant reduction in the numbers of FP. Mods, Admins and other staff members on the best and biggest boards/forums seems to agree on this. EmsiSoft really did get their act together, one learns from reliable sources.
