If you have any questions about the entry you make to clean IE7 post that entry so that it can be looked at. The last thing you'll want to do is kill a large part of the registry or wipe out a whole parent folder on your hard disk.

MrG's fangirl is talking about winapp2.ini located here, it's an optional add-on for CCleaner to include more cleaning. winapp.ini is included with CCleaner, it's located in the folder where CCleaner is installed, e.g.;
C:\Program Files\CCleaner\winapp.ini

How come the slim and basic versions have not been updated?
I second that! I'm waiting and even wondering if there will be a slim version, hopefully so.

Rebooting a server isn't like rebooting a home PC.
The next time you have some sort of catastrophic Windows error ("worm A killed your antivirus, and virus B deleted C:\Windows") try rebooting to see that it won't fix squat.

HANS Device = Head and Neck Restraint System. Created in the U.S.A. although it sounds German.
It's the one device that could have saved the life of Dale Ernhardt (not sure if I spelled his name correctly). Basically it protects racing car drivers from getting a basler or baisler (don't know the exact spelling) skull fracture which is 100% fatal.

One way of being introduced to Norton is via a new PC purchase since allot of manufacturers have it pre-installed with allot of other nonsense s**tware. I seriously think PC manufacturers would be better off just cutting a licensing/approval deal to have one of the freeware av's pre-installed instead - because people wouldn't have to worry about some 90 day trial crap av running out.

Eldmannen is correct Norton sucks! It not only sucks system resources, hdd space, it also sucks allot of money out of your wallet.
As for the free av's I'm going to flip a coin as to what I'll choose which will either be AVG Free or Avira AntiVir. I really like the new AntiVir, however I'm hoping it still isn't a false positive whore as it used to be!

We weren't told either way, but with version 1.27 he didn't release the slim build until 2 or 3 days after the standard build release. I don't know if he'll take that long this time (I hope not), but I am going to expect that so I don't get bummed.

It should come apart fairly easily. You won't have much room to play around inside it (which I wouldn't do if it's running fine). Get a can of compressed air for removing dust.
To cleanse the monitor make sure you only use cleaning wipes that are specifically designed to clean an LCD monitor. You should be able to find those at practically any office/computer store such as Staples, etc.

I don't really know what winapp.ini is
It's CCleaner's application cleaning routine file:
C:\Program Files\CCleaner\winapp.ini
The suite browsers Mozilla and Netscape are useful on systems where allot of people use one computer to have multiple browser user profiles versus multiple Windows user profiles.
The reason I mostly use Mozilla Suite is because of the built-in Composer which can create webpages in a flash without messing with HTML in Notepad, etc.
If you're a single user and other people aren't constantly on your system Firefox or Opera are good choices as they aren't bloated in anyway or come with unnecessary bits that you may never actually use.

You state you're a novice, but please give yourself much more credit - you're smart in not wanting to use Internet Explorer.

You could perform a quick test to see if your scanner works all by itself:
1. Shutdown your computer.
2. Removing the daisy chaining of the scanner and printer, and then plug the scanner alone directly into the back of your computer.
3. Start you computer.
4. If the scanner works alone there inlies the problem, e.g.; your scanner is loosing communication because of being daisy chained with the printer.
Also you could uninstall the scanner software and then reboot, and then re-install it followed by another reboot. No gaurantee this will work and it probably won't last for very long if it does initially work, but at least it "should" cause the scanner software to attempt to re-detect your scanner.

The whole 'toolbar and tainted' talk are becoming so boring. I wish this thread could just have excitement and thank you messages going out to MrG about the new version that is forthcoming which represents a major bugfix in the Hotfix Uninstaller and some other bugfixes. If people want to constantly bitch about the toolbar just revive one of the threads that are just for that.

It's better to wear a seat belt versus being scrapped from the confines of the automobile with a spatula after an accident.
Imagine how upset people would be if they had to wear a fire retardant racing suit, a helmet, and have a HANS device just to drive. No wait that's Formula 1.

It's both a monitoring & surveillance software for spying on users of a system for finding out what people are doing on a PC, e.g.; a parent could use it to see where their children goes on the web, a company could use it to make sure employees are actually working, etc.
It's however a pay-for-it type of spy application and has to be manually installed - it isn't just going to end up on a system like malware.

Netscape Navigator 4.x is cleaned, but there's no newer versions listed in winapp.ini.
If you switch to Mozilla Suite CCleaner will offer to cleanse it. Mozilla is what Netscape is based upon.

In general it's the software that causes the problem, at least that's what I think.
I was able to figure out exactly what the problem was on mine back in the day; It was because I had to daisy chain the scanner and the printer together and with both sets of software installed it always killed the scanner's software or connection for some unknown reason. Installing the scanning software alone and not the printer software would allow the scanner to work for a short time, that is up until it decided to stop working again.

I'm completely guessing as I've never tried it; adding another printer style serial port "may" be a solution.

When I leave Opera8 single user, unchecked, cCleaner works fine. As soon as I check it No Go!
The only thing I can think of which probably isn't the case would be if Opera's registry data wasn't in the default location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Opera Software
It's impossible to know what the winapp.ini entry does exactly as it has some sort of detection code which doesn't list directories or files in plain sight as the winapp2.ini entry does.

Depending upon where you live you should actually be able to find an all-in-one which is a Printer and Scanner combination starting at approximately $50 USD and then going up in price from there.

The beginning info of winapp2.ini is nothing more than to hold the copyright info, and to give the code as to what goes with what for proper placement within the CCleaner GUI. It's all commented out using these ";" therefore if the beginning wasn't there it would make no difference, CCleaner would still see the cleaning routines and use them.

"Possibly" mixed core files, meaning the .dll files and whatever else it installed.
My motto is don't mess around with IE if you don't want to end up reinstalling Windows. That's the main reason I'm waiting for IE7 to be officially released as a final product versus a beta, I don't want to risk a reinstall.
