Hello Andavari, I have problems entering this in the Options of CCleaner. The String that I am using is (here in the Forum I replaced my username with <UsernameA: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent\|*.* I went to the Options and added the string as a "File" (Radiobutton "File" is seleccted). When I go to "Cleaner" and then back to the options then I see that the |*.* at the end of the string is truncated: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent\ So I removed the old entry and added it as a "Folder". When I go to "Cleaner" and then back to the options then I see: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent\*.*\ Why is this so complicated? Why is ist not woking when I add a specific excel file here: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent\MyExcelFile.xlsx.LNK I also added an exclude path C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent\*.* But also here all Recent Documents are deleted. Hello, I went to the Options -> Exclude and clicked on Add. Then I selected "Drive or Folder" and added your String. Unfortunately the Recent documents are still gone after cleaning. OLLI

Hello, I have Microsoft Office 2010 and have pinned some important Excel-Files to the "Recent" list in Excel. After running CCleaner they are gone. In CCleaner I went into the details of "Applications - Office 2010" and right cklicked on the Excel-Files (FileName.xls.LNK) and selected "Add to Exclude List". They are located in the folder C:\Users\<MyUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office\Recent After closing Excel and running CCleaner my "Recent" list in Excel is still empty. Hello, today is the 30th of may. I started CCleaner (the actual version, use the auto update feature). The folder d:\Temp\Windows\ is added manually to the "Include" list. Yes, the section "Custom files and folders" in the tree is checked. After cleaning my computer, there are still files in that directory. There is one folder from 22th of may that contains 120 MB. This folder is older than 7 days. So, why is this folder not removed? Greetings OLLI

Hello, let me ask more specific: why are other hotfix uninstallers removed from my computer but not those listed above? Are they really "unsafe to remove"? Of cause hotfix uninstallers are always critical to remove and you should only do this if you know what you are doing (because you can not uninstall them from your computer). But if other hotfix uninstallers are removed, why not those? Greetings OLLI

Here are my results: The following folders/entries are existing in my Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Recent File List HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Recent Files HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data|Settings HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Access\Settings The following folders/entries are NOT existing in my Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Recent Templates HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet|UseRWHlinkNavigation When I create an Winapp2.ini and add the code mentioned below (beginning with [*Office 2000]) then I get the following results: Excel 2000: it is working, no recent documents Word 2000: it is not working, I see my recent documents PowerPoint 2000: it is working, no recent documents Access 2000: it is not working, I see my recent documents Any other suggestions? Hello, I have a German Windows XP Professional SP3. CCleaner also offers the "Recent Documents". Here the following folder is cleaned: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Administrator\Recent This would be in an English OS the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Recent I accidental found the following folder: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Administrator\Anwendungsdaten\Microsoft\Office\Zuletzt Verwendet This would be in an English OS the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent (or maybe "Recent Documents"). What is this folder used for? When I delete the links in that folder and open Excel 2000 and Word 2000, then the Recent Documents are still there. Hello, in my windows Directory there is also a folder "Driver Cache" (95 MB). An other system cleaner that I tested (but that I am not using) tells me the following text: This directory contains drivers for hardware and is needed when new devices are detected (for example when you plug in a new hardware). You can delete this folders, in worst case you have to insert a Driver-CD or the Windows-CD. So, would it make sense to offer this directory in CCleaner? Greetings OLLI

Hello, in my Windows Directory I have the two directories: ie7updates (86,7 MB) ie8updates (154 MB) What about those directories? In my eyes the ie7updates can be deleted, because IE 8 is installed. And also the ie8updates could be removed when the IE runs normally after installing patches. So, please consider adding those two directories into CCleaner. Thank you. Greetings OLLI

Hello, I have my windows temp drive in d:\Temp\Windows\ I also set the USER DEFINED environment variables TEMP and TMP to this folder. And I also set the SYSTEM VARIABLES TEMP and TMP to this folder. CCleaner has a strange behavior. After analyzing my system CCleaner reports about 100 MB to be deleted. After a second analysis CCleaner just finds one or two MB. If I clean the directory instead of doing a second analysis, then also one or two MB are deleted. At the moment I have 145 MB in that folder. If I count the folders that are older than today (yesterday or older) I have 141 MB. If I make an analysis, CCleaner finds 0 bytes. After I had such bad results, I manually added the directory (d:\Temp\Windows\*.*) to the "Include" list. Here the scan "Custom files and folders" only cleans 22 MB. A folder being 2 days old is not deleted. Here I have some questions: Why does CCleaner report more files at the first scan than at the second scan? Why does CCleaner not find any file although it it the "official" TEMP directory of windows? Why did I have to add the folder manually although it is the "official" TEMP directory of windows? Why are in the "Custom files and folders" scan only 22 MB removed (today is the 24th of May, one folder containing 120 MB are from 22th of may)? Why are empty folders (folders containing 0 files) not removed in this directory (they are from 17th of May, 21st of May, 23rd of May and of today)? I have Windows XP Professional SP3 and work as Administrator. If you need any other information about my system, please ask. Greetings OLLI

Hello, I have CCleaner 2.31.1153. When I analyze the "Hotfix Uninstallers" then CCleaner reports 0 Bytes to be removed. Also when I clean the "Hotfix Uninstallers". In my Windows directory there are some directory, that look like Uninstaller information: $hf_mig$ (462 MB) $NtServicePackUninstallIDNMitigationAPIs$ (575 KB) $NtServicePackUninstallNLSDownlevelMapping$ (364 KB) $NtUninstallKB940157$ (1,31 MB) $NtUninstallMSCompPackV1$ (593 KB) $NtUninstallWdf01007$ (595 KB) $NtUninstallWdf01009$ (1,15 MB) $NtUninstallWMFDist11$ (18,0 MB) $NtUninstallwmp11$ (10,5 MB) $NtUninstallWudf01000$ (651 KB) $NtUninstallWudf01007$ (1,57 MB) $NtUninstallXPSEPSCLP$ (576 KB) Total space used by these directories: 498 MB Is there a specific reason, why they are missing in CCleaner? Hello, CCleander allows me to delete the Recent Documents in Windows. Fantastic feature. Unfortunately I see in Office (for Example in Powerpoint 2000) in the Menu "File" a list of recently opened documents. So please add also an option to delete the list of Recent Documents in Office. Of cause for all Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access to name just some of them) and also all Versions of Office (Office 2000, Office 2003, Office 2007 to name some office versions). Hello, I looked up again all those directories (the actual sizes) and found some more stuff that is wasting my space. c:\Windows\$hf_mig$ (136 MB) Eric2 wrote that this folder should not be deleted, so I believe it. C:\Windows\Installer (1120 MB) Running the "Windows Installer Clean Up utility" does only delete 2 MB, see http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...p;hl=msizap.exe c:\Windows\ie7updates (147 MB) I think that this folder contains"Hotfix uninstallers" because all sub folders begin with "KB..." and this shows that this are hotfixes. So CCleaner should delete this folder. C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles (546 MB) This is in my eyes (but I am not an expert, so I can be wrong) a folder that contains files to un-install an service pack. So I can un-install the Service Pack 3 of WindowsXP. So CCleaner should delete this folder. C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations (20 MB) There are two installation packages of very old applications (ebay turbo lister for example). CCleaner should delete this folder. C:\Windows\Temp (12 MB) I normally have assigned all temp variables to d:\temp Just one application copies the installation files there. So CCleaner should delete this folder. Even if all 4 temp variables are set to d:\temp, CCleaner should also look in C:\Windows\Temp I do not have the folder "C:\Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall$". Maybe because I used an "delete uninstaller" script from a PC magazine. So if I sum up all folders that CCleaner should clean in my eyes, then I would get: - c:\Windows\ie7updates (147 MB) - C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles (546 MB) - C:\Windows\Downloaded Installations (20 MB) - C:\Windows\Temp (12 MB) In total this are 725 MB of space that normally should be deleted. Maybe one of the Piriform staff should answer here and tell me what folders contain uninstallers and what folders don't. I think that not all of the files can be deleted without damaging the system. It also would be interesting if some folders (like "c:\Windows\ie7updates") are just missing in CCleander and so they will be added in one of the next versions. Greetings OLLI

But I wrote this in a reply of the other topic, so the folder "C:\Windows\Installer" is handled there. There are two questions remaining. 1) Is the folder "c:\Windows\ie7updates" a folder that contains "Hotfix uninstallers"? If yes, then that folder should also be cleaned by CCleaner. And if you plan to implement to clean that sub-folder, is it planed for the next release? 2) Same questions for the folder "c:\Windows\$hf_mig$" Are these also "Hotfix uninstallers"? Hello, thank you for this posting. On my system I have the problem that my free space on my C partition is nearly gone (just 66 MB free). My folder "C:\Windows\Installer" has 1122 MB. So I switched to "C:\Programme\Windows Installer Clean Up\" and run "MSIZAP ?". And really the help says: "G = remove orphaned cached Windows Installer data files (for all users)" So I run "msizap G" but only one file was removed. Now the folder is 1120 MB in size. Is there anything else I can do to reduce the size of that folder? A save way. Of cause I can delete all files and sub-folders in "C:\Windows\Installer" but this is not a save way. Hello, I use CCleander 2.14.763. I also let it clean "Hotfix uninstallers". After deleting the files I recognized that in my Windows directory there are still some files, where I think that they also should be deleted by CCleaner. The folder c:\Windows\ie7updates (141 MB) There are some folders like KB938127-IE7 Are these "Hotfix uninstallers" that can be also deleted (if yes, please add them to CCleaner). The folder c:\Windows\$hf_mig$ (129 MB) There also are all folders beginning with KB..... Same question like before: are these "Hotfix uninstallers" that can be also deleted (if yes, please add them to CCleaner). Last but no least the folder C:\Windows\Installer (1122 MB) There I have sub-folders like "$PatchCache$" or "{00000407-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}". Also many MSI (Windows Installer) and MSP (Windows Installer Patch). And again the same question..... It would be nice to get rid of all this wasted space.
