What would make Auslogics Disk Defrag better than JkDefrag, or are they about the same all around?
-
I have the following programs launching at startup and have zero conflict problems:
avast!
Ad-Aware
ThreatFire
WinPatrol
ZoneAlarm

Have you tried getting to System Restore in Safe Mode?
-
I downloaded IE8 and ever since the media player is hanging up after viewing a video.
I have to click the "X" a number of times to get it to close and still get a message about sending a report to Microsoft.
Any ideas on this?
Hi tommyk, I don't know if you've read the recent posts on this forum relating to problems with IE8. If not, have a read and you may decide to uninstall IE8.
-
I also have used the initial release, although I won't venture back into using it.
You think using the program could cause problems or you just use various programs to accomplish the same tasks?

Thanks Hazelnut - you obviously realise that I am a "beginner"
Sasso1
Hi Sasso1, did you get CCleaner working ok? It's a great product and this is a great forum. Great place to learn many things about the land of computers.

It should be clean it's CCleaner'd, all kept tidy and Defraggler'd, and if anything ever goes wrong it can be Recuva'd.
Good one Andavari

Just wanted to relate what happened to me in order to perhaps benefit other members who may be having PC problems. Last night I downloaded an update from Microsoft, which turned out to be IE 8 (I had IE 7 pro, but I mostly use Firefox). After the update, you were told to reboot so I did. Now it took approx. 3 minutes for the icons on my desktop to appear (this had never happened before). I rebooted several times and each time the quick launch icons took approx 45 sec. to appear and the icons in my tray took about 2 minutes to appear. But my main problem was this: It was nearly impossible to do anything on my PC - e.g. open Firefox or open any other application for that matter - because it seemed that the action used 98-100% of the CPU (according to the Windows Task Manager) and therefore took forever to open. I then decided to uninstall IE8 (your previous IE version is automatically brought back again) and since then all is back to normal. Makes you wonder about some of these Microsoft updates.

They're both actually comparable however I think getting things done in CDBurnerXP is a little easier and quicker, and since CDBurnerXP has extensive online help documentation it's now my pick, can't beat it's updater either as it will download the new version setup file directly to the desktop and start the installation.
I'm thoroughly impressed with CDBurnerXP as it replaced two burning apps on my system, those being Ashampoo Burning Studio 2009 which would sometimes crash for no apparent reason (actually all versions of Burning Studio would crash periodically on my system), and ImgBurn which is devoid of any documentation and now has those rather childish and stupid joke/humor comments shown in the GUI which can't be disabled like in previous versions.
Thanks for the info, I'll check it out for sure.

razz just to say Ashampoo has a more updated one free than the one you mention
Thanks hazelnut for heads-up re a new version of Ashampoo. I'll download it now.
-
There's already many good freeware backup programs available and when coupled with a free CD/DVD burning program like my new free favourite CDBurnerXP you can backup your files rather easily.
Andavari, would you know how this program compares to Ashampoo Burning Studio 6 Free....about the same, a little better, much better, or not as good?
-
Actually, I've been using it for several months -- no problems whatsoever. It's an incredibly simple program to use -- nothing to fiddle with. Simply download it and install it -- that's it. And, it runs concurrently with my AV (Antivir Premium) and doesn't conflict with it at all.
I agree totally. I have used it for many months now and very happy with it. I use avast! as well as Zone Alarm and there have been no conflicts at all with ThreatFire.

I was married on Sept. 12th, 1986 and according to the website the #1 song in the US was "You Take My Breath Away" by Berlin. I love that song....now I know one more reason why I do.

Hi Razz,
Initial test results on my WinXP Pro SP3 with all .net Framework versions and service packs.
I can not exit any window other than what you call the Main Console without the program staying in memory.
I can only end the process with Task Manager.
Hi Davey. I had not noticed what you mentioned about memory. I will look into that. Thank you for bringing it up.
Some windows will only show the upper half of the Main Console button. The lower half is covered by the Taskbar. My taskbar is set to always be on top.I gather that you encounter this issue only on the "Info" page. I will deall with this in a future version.
Please don't delete too much of your text for the sake of "professional" tidiness. You may have a point - I am not sure how other in-the-know users would feel about this issue. My thought was that perhaps users who are very familiar with computers and various applications would prefer to just have the bare bones of what AZFL does - i.e. link to programs without most of the text.
Thanks for your comments.

Very useful programme but I must say I don't like the UI but nonetheless this will come in handy
I'm glad you will find it handy. That was my main reason for creating the program - I wanted all my handy programs to be controlled from one console. Sorry you don't like the GUI. Is it the color or layout you don't like?
-
1. The READ ME FIRST.txt is a bit wide unless I use Word Wrap which I don't like as I like to see the Ln and Col information in the Status Bar
YoKenny, I believe you are referring to the "Info" page. I will try to narrow the table in a future version to be more accomodating for non-widescreen monitors. Thank you for your comments.
-
Will this run on Vista?
Yes it will. Vista comes with .Net Framework 2.0 (which is required for AZFL to run) pre-installed.

Razz, I'm well impressed with your first attempt at writing and putting a program together.
It downloaded and ran without a hitch, and has some good advice and reminders for anyone who doesn't carry out regular maintenance on their PC, as well as suggestions for useful software they may not be aware of.
Well done.
Well thank you very much DennisD for the positive review and your kind words, I really appreciate it! I hope others will find it equally as useful.

Thanks for the tip regarding this IE8 Blocker Toolkit. I just installed it. Looking forward to no longer having the annoying notice re IE8.
On a side note: as you know I had major problems after installing IE8, but on my wife's PC IE8 has caused no problems at all. Weird how similar PCs can react so different.
