  1. You should think about putting the "Old Prefetch Data" option within its own category. It seems to me that for most users clearing this data would cause a decrease in performance rather than help performance. I realize that by default this option is not checked but many users may check it thinking it is beneficial to do so.

    Just a thought.

Thank you for a great product!

  2. Btw, my primary language is spanish.

Sorry if my english sucks. :(

Your English is as good as probably better than mine and I immigrated to Canada from Denmark in 1958.

No doubt I have learned tons on this forum and learning something new nearly every day. In fact a while ago I had some serious problems with my PC, especially after changing from FAT32 to NTFS, and the problem was solved with a lot of help from here.

There is a huge amount of information on here regarding freeware products. In fact, most of the excellent freeware products that I use I found from viewing this forum.

To me what is attractive about this forum is the ton of knowledge found here coupled with the fact that all members are so friendly. Also, for me personally, I have gained a very good friend who I met on this forum.

  3. ok kind of a novice question but if i made copies before deleting would i have to delete the copies after if the deleting was all fine or would the copies automatically delete themselves if the deleting went fine of the originals

    Hello hello2007 :)

CCleaner and other registry cleaner products always give you the option to backup your registry before you clean it. Always click "yes" - it's always best to be on the safe side. Do not worry about deleting backups, they do no harm.

Also, I have configured ERUNT to backup my registry on every startup. I feel this is a very good idea.

  4. Besides my anti-virus and anti-spyware programs running, I like to run WinPatrol and ZoneAlarm. Not only do they provide extra protection - which some may argue is not needed :) - but I like to know if anything is trying to put itself on the starting list etc. and also what is trying to reach the internet when it has not had previous permission to do so.

In other words...for me personally, I like to keep an eye on what is going on in the land of XP.

  5. I wanted to see if I could somehow use McAfee Site Advisor with Google Chrome and found this...

Google Chrome does not have an extensions/plugins gateway as such and does not quite support third party extensions till now Mcafee has not developed its Chrome version for that plugin.

However, we have got a javascript bookmarklet for Siteadvisor which would make viewing of the site?s security status a bit more easier using mcafee?s technology and database, thus giving users for Google Chrome a feeling that they are using the Mcafee Site Advisor Plugin, though this is a ?cheap? work around for the actual plugin.

  6. It's nice that Microsoft gives it away for free it, and from reading about it I think it goes beyond their avocation of protecting a computer from children changing things since anyone can be stricken with an infection with all the malware that's floating about. Sounds like something which should be built into Windows by default!

There are however other alternatives like Sandboxie, or Returnil Personal Edition of course coupled with WOT for web browsers.

What I found good about this was the fact that supposedly a reboot clears anything that was manipulated on your PC. I guess that would be handy if kids were fooling around with stuff during their session, in which case its doubtful they would have used Sandboxie or Returnil.

  7. It's a good idea to remember that all fails are not necessarily so. The Shield Up test may have just been testing your router and not your computer. The data sent for the test may not have even reached your computer but instead been sent back by the router which Shields Up would interpret as a fail when in fact it's a great result for you.

    An explanation on this here

In my case the Sheilds Up test results indicate that all my ports are in stealth mode, not just closed. To me this would indicate that it was indeed Zone Alarm doing its job.

  8. That's a well respected test razz, and may be new to many of the newer members.

Yes, the GRC site has been around for some time and well respected as you say. If anyone is interested Steve Gibson appears on a weekly radio show that discuss important issues of personal computer security. The following link has a list of all the episodes in various formats, both audio and print versions. Some interesting reading and/or listening.

  9. It's nothing like JkDefrag which I use to do a full defrag. JkDefrag is so much more configurable, but also much slower since it moves files around into logical locations like those space hogs such as AVI video files, etc., whereas Auslogics Disk Defrag just defrags them from what I've noticed hence it's so much faster.

So you do use Auslogics Disk Defrag from time to time when you don't think it's necessary to do a full defrag? This brings to mind..how often do you think it's a good practice to defrag? Also, what is your opinion on Auslogics Registry Cleaner?

  10. I've installed Avast! anti-virus, as most here said they like that one best. When I googled it, I noticed there were multiple sites with the similar names and products... I wonder if I downloaded the right one?

Hi BMathis, welcome to the forum. Best on the net! Did you get acquainted with avast ok? By the way, good choice - avast is a great anti-virus program.
