  1. Hello-

I don't know much about video editing since my PC can't handle it very well but some time ago rridgely posted a link in this thread that is for a page with some info on desktop video editing and has a list of program recommendations [thanks rridgely]. There are a couple other posts in the thread with recommendations as well.

    Hope this helps...

  2. Hello axthree and welcome to the forum :) !

If you post a HijackThis log [instructions] one of the experts will get back to you and let you know what's going on.

Sorry, I tried to get this down to one syllable but couldn't :P .

  3. On my PC [HP] the switches are on the right side of the motherboard just above the connector for the on/off switch. It's a tiny group of 6 switches about 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch. It varies by manufacturer and some PCs use jumper wires instead. What make and model are your PC? Sorry, I couldn't find a good picture yet.

Here is some info about Linux from Slackware, hopefully it will help.

  4. I was creating a restore point and noticed that the new version of Defender had created 9 restore points in the last 18 hours. I looked into it and it looks like Defender creates a new restore point every time a new program is installed. I normally do that anyway but I would rather Defender give me the option of creating a restore point. I try to use resrore points sparingly to reduce space and to avoid slowing down malware scans.

I couldn't find any options in Defender to change this behavior. While I appreciate the emphasis Defender is putting on security and the ability to undo issues caused by the installation of new programs, I think in most cases creating restore points should be the user's decision.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks

  5. ive tried all the keys practically. its like somebody locked it up. its an american megatrends. released 5-3-02. amibios ?1999 american megatrends inc. if that helps any. it says press del but wen i do that it gives me choices. safe mode, normal, safemode with network. i dont get it.

It sounds like that's the OS and not the BIOS.

Have you tried holding down F1, F2, or ESC? Hold one of them down as soon as the machine is turned on. Also make sure the floppy drive and the CD drive are empty. You could also try this: There should also be microswitches on your motherboard to reset the BIOS and any passwords that have been installed. You turn off the PC, move the two switches to their other position, turn on the PC, wait for a message on the screen saying they've been reset, turn off the PC, move the switches back, and then turn it on again.

Let me know the brand and model number of the PC and maybe I can tell you where the switches are if you don't see them.

    Good luck!

  6. haha...yeah, like you! ;)

I just thought that accidently deleting my XP partition, reformatting my hard drive, reinstalling XP, and downloading over 50 updates including SP2 on dialup over two sleepless days and nights would be just as easy as using Andy's application  !

I guess there's just the tiniest possibility I was wrong...

  7. This may be a wild guess but is it possible you are having issues with your cd burner or cd burning software? I've had both in the past and most recently I was having strange intermittent problems while creating CDs. Sometimes they would burn OK and sometimes had errors or wouldn't burn at all. I switched from Nero to AVS Disk Creator, which is free, and have had no problems since.

BTW, thanks to theTOM_SK for the recommendation and to Andavari for the two links.

  8. i would like to be able to delete your own posts so if you know that its over and you've solved the problem, it doesnt just waste space. crap, now i cant delete this...

I know what you mean but people learn a lot about things by reading through other people's threads and posts.

As for what I'd like to see on this website:

    lokoike

People don't learn much from my posts except what a bad sense of humor I have.

  9. I consulted George the lessor of evils at easter sunrise services about this tragic event, and this was his response.

LOL! I asked Don Rumsfeld what Bush meant by this and he said:

    As we know,

    There are known knowns.

There are things we know we know.

    We also know

    There are known unknowns.

    That is to say

We know there are some things

    We do not know.

But there are also unknown unknowns,

    The ones we don't know

    We don't know.

  10. Terrorists strike again! I hope someone can find FEMA to dry things out out before mold forms. The smoking gun may end up being a mushroom, not a mushroom cloud.

Bush thinks he's the king, I hope the throne wasn't destroyed.

Did he cause the leak, or was it Cheney and Libby?

He tried to call Richard Nixon to see of he knew any good plumbers, but again there was no answer.

He can color pretty fast, the only crayons (and glasses) he has are rose colored.

They think the cause was a bullet hole in the water pipe for the sink. They had a suspect but he had an alibi. Cheney was aiming at the basement.

  11. CCleaner removed my IE7 Uninstall entry, therefore making me unable to remove IE7, causing catastrophic problems. I used System Restore which got my system back to normal, but want to warn members and the makers of CCleaner. Please come up with a new version that does not delete uninstall entries, or advise how to make CCleaner not delete uninstall entries.

    Which version are you using?

The latest version, 1.28.277, should no longer have this issue.

  12. HDD death is near. :( 4/16/2006

Sorry to hear that. Hope it holds out for as long as you need it to! If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. You've helped a lot of us and we'd love to return the favor :) .

Through my many years of hands on experience I can tell you exactly what NOT to do  ...

  13. Glad you're happy with the upgrade me20000. The security upgrades are an important consideration. I'm glad pwillener brought it up since I didn't even think of it  .

  14. One thing to consider is that if you have a lot of extensions, some will probably not be compatable with the newer versions of FireFox. Usually they are updated rather quickly but some never seem to be. Of course, that's only one thing to consider...

Adblock is compatable though, thankfully :D !

  15. However, if I were ever on American Idol...

  16. I've never watched it so your explanation didn't mean anything to me.

I don't watch it either. I'm much to macho to watch a show like that. However, my friend told me that Simon Cowell makes snotty comments to the contestants. He told me this while I was picking up my SUV and putting it on top of my house.

I hope Kellie wins. Or Katharine. And what's the deal with Taylor anyway?

  17. You're about to lose your Rockstar Status. ;)

    Nooo!!!!

    <Deleting PMs! Deleting PMs!>

So sorry! Simon Cowell keeps PMing me for quotes he can use on American Idol.

I hate deleting PMs. Except lokoikes. JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!

  18. It's a warning. Like this one. Just change "Mike" to "krit."

    Just Kidding!

T.E.C. is "Threshold Exceeded Condition" and basically it means a disk failure. When your Drive Health software reports a "Nearest T.E.C." you should consider it as a "Failure date."

    From drivehealth.com.

The seek time of a hard disk measures the amount of time required for the read/write heads to move between tracks over the surfaces of the platters.

Hope this helps 'till Dj is around :) .
