  1. New version of the Svchost Look up tool available (v1.1.0). A Svchost.exe process can control e.g. 4 (running) services. Then these 4 services have the same PID but have a different (Svchost.exe) start switch and different names. This tool combines the info from two Task Manager tabs called "Processes" and "Services". (Win 7).

And we're working on an improved version of Windows Repair.

  2. WARNING for users of Windows Repair (v1.9.6) (from www.Tweaking.com): the program contains a bug that can lead to repairs failing and unpredictable repair results. The bug is NOT "hiding" in one of the repairs itself but in the GUI. The program still can be used but the user has to keep two things in mind:

    1. Don't use/try the "Beta Repairs" !!!

    2. When the user has left the main repair window and wants to go back to that window to do some more repairs then the user MUST restart the program. Otherwise a number of repairs won't be executed or/and repairs will fail.

I DO hope this bug gets fixed in the very near future in v1.9.7

  3. DiskLED

Nice little tool that monitors harddisk activity. And when the computer accesses the harddisk then the DiskLed system tray icon lights up. When my laptop (Win 7) goes through the start up procedure (e.g. MS Security Essentials) then for the first 1 or 2 (3 ??) minutes this system tray icon constantly lights up revealing constant disk access/heavy disk usage.

When the icon no longer constantly is lit then I know that my computer is completely at my disposal and will start to respond (almost) instantly to mouseclicks.

For the time being, this is the best and - above all - simplest diskmonitoring tool I came across.

  4. A number of tasks are executed by Task Scheduler (TS) and TS is acting weird. According to one forum TS in Win 7 still has one or more bugs. I hope MS will come up with a bug fix for TS, ASAP. So, I'll have update a number of programs manually. Perhaps I shouldn't MSE allow to use so much CPU time. Perhaps I can finetune MSE and TS. Don't know what to make of it.

BTW: MSE updates seem to be fully "back on track".

  5. I installed MSE on Win 7 in oktober 2012 and since then it intercepted and quarantained "malware" about 8 times. The only thing I don't like too much is that since installation that it takes my laptop more time to finish the start up procedure (=heavy disk usage). And then - at least - one task that is supposed to run upon start up simply doesn't run.

  6. I agree with Hazelnut that even Microsoft won't "rule the computerworld" for ever. But when this guy is correct then MS could have prepared itself better for the (ever)changing world of computers. It clearly seems that MS (and Steve Ballmer) became too complacent.

Microsoft can go the same route as Kodak. They invented the digital camera but the consumers weren't ready (yet) and they missed out on this development.

  7. I also remember one person downloaded a "Folder Hider" that promised to conceal any folder he chose.

He chose to hide a folder he never used.

He chose to hide "C:\Program Files\"

The good news was that Folder Hider did what it promised,

but the consequences were severe :(

@alan_b: What consequences ? Wasn't Windows able to execute the programs in that folder ?

Nevertheless, I subscribed to the GAOTD. Perhaps some nice software will be given away for free in the future.

  8. I have a number of questions for the readers of this thread:

    - How often did you hear about problems with Adobe's Flash and Shockwave ?

    - How many times were those problems solved by simply re-registering the appropriate files ?

If Adobe's Shockwave is still heavily used then it would make sense to add a special "repair job" in a program called "Windows Repair".

  9. I use Windows Explorer that comes/came with Win XP and Win 7. Yes, I agree with Hazelnut, boring. Besides that I use ExplorerXP in about 10% of the time when I want to access/retrieve files in/from folders that can't be accessed with Windows Explorer. ExplorerXP goes beyond where Win Explorer stops.

If I could I would transfer the Win XP file manager to my Win 7 laptop. Win XP's file manager has some features I sorely miss in Win 7. Does anyone know how to "copy"/install the Win XP file manager to Win 7 ?? Perhaps Superfast has a solution ?

Are there better filemanagers than win Explorer ? I am open to suggestions.

  10. New version of "Repair Windows" (v1.9.4) available. A preliminary view suggests that it tackles/repairs a number of Windows problems (much) better than the previous version(s).

Beta Testers needed for the improved "Repair System Restore" feature. This new feature is - for the time being (???) - not available for Win XP.

  11. Send MrT a personal message and ask for instructions. He knows who the translator for the Croatian language files is. That's a good way to start.

    http://forum.pirifor...?showuser=14762

One shouldn't always blame the translator. There's a limit to the amount of characters that can be used for the translation of a text string. Using too much characters means an increased risk that text strings are truncated.

  12. Some suggestions:

Did this occur with a previous version of CC as well ?

Untick every box. Then tick one by one a group of boxes and run CC. This is how you can narrow down which group cleans those settings. When you know which group is responsible then you can narrow it down even more by ticking one box at a time and run CC again.
