Hi,
a colleague of mine has recently installed RegistryBooster 2 and given me a heads up...I use CCleaner exclusively.
We did a side by side comparison and found that registryBooster found 500+ entries more than CCleaner...What's going on I ask...
Anyway I have attached a copy of the RB log so you can haev a look and advise...change CCleaner so it can get back to the top of the roost...

I agree with the other posts, and I'm in no way bashing the Reg Booster product, it may well find some more items, so with that said, hopefully you know to run the CCleaner Reg cleaning back to back until it doesn't find any more entries. I'm just a user and not one of the programmers, but I would guess that one the first cleaning it takes out items that will make the items in the second run orphans.

They offer a number of programs, can you put exactly which Citrix product?

Do you have Windows installed on drive other than "C"? Also have you recently installed something to a drive "G"? If you have a drive "G" it's probably a flash drive or some other removable drive or device. During the install does the program ask you where to install to? If it does, it should give you a "browse" button so that you can choose "C:\Program Files" directly.
You might give that a try and also post the name of your product so I can see if there is more info.

I keep getting this message when I try to install a program that allows me to get my computer from work at home.

First, in my CCleaner folder there are only 2 files (CCleaner.exe and uninst.exe)! There is NO CCleaner.ini file as I would have expected. So I can't manually edit it as you suggested. I infer the installation process did not complete properly.
Second, I have installed, uninstalled (with CCleaner's Uninstaller), and reinstalled CCleaner 2.06 - all with the same lack of results. Each time I had no other programs running. And one time I rebooted to see if that would help matters - it didn't.
Third, when I clicked on the CCleaner's Desktop icon, a small black screen appeared (like from a command prompt) and it disappeared in a fraction of a second. Then nothing more happened. Both times it occurred so rapidly I could not read anything. This might be explained by not having a proper ini file.
Do you think trying an earlier version of CCleaner would be beneficial???

James - Normally this would be a job for CCleaner, ironic huh? I would suggest that you try to uninstall, and after that go to the programs folder and make sure the CCleaner folder is gone from there too. Then check the registry for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CCleaner" which at that point should be gone. If it's not make a note of whether or not the update check is turned on or off (1 or 0). That option is one that is available during the installation. Anyway if it's there in the registry, delete just the CCleaner key (you can export it to back it up if you like but I don't think in this case it would be necessary, - disclaimer
- of course it's always a good idea to backup the entire reg when working on it just in case). Then I would also download a new copy of the program. I wouldn't want to go fooling around with the registry too much, that's why I only point out the one entry, even though there are more.
Edit - I also just remembered that it's Vista so you may have to check the program data folder, I think. I don't have a Vista computer handy to see what that folder is called. If I recall right, once you open up your drive Windows is installed on, you should spot what I'm talking about. I don't think it should be there, but since I can't check...
And for another suggestion it's thin, I know, but have you tried to install it to a flash drive? I don't have any idea if that would work, but it might be worth a shot. That also might give the programmers something to work with.

As far as trying out one of the earlier versions, I wouldn't do that just yet. But, if you try out this stuff, then I don't think would hurt anything and I would probably only go back a version or two and work my way backwards. That way when you report back about it then the programmers will have some good documentation on what worked and what didn't.

First thing I would do is untick Automatically check for updates to CCleaner at Options > Settings.
Some users have had problems there.
Davey's right with his suggestions. And my guess would be that you might have the "Close program after cleaning" option set. But, it will depend on how the program "stops".
In addition to Davey's questions, I have a couple more.
Do you mean that as soon as you click on the program icon to open it stops and closes, or once the program is open and you click on the "Run Cleaner" button and it just stops cleaning?
Have you tried to remove and then reinstall CCleaner yet?
As far as Vista SP1 goes I do know it worked fine on the 3 systems I've upgraded so far. One of which is Ultimate and an Intel Quad Core, I doubt the version matters. The ones I did were not 64bit so someone else with 64bit SP1 will have to testify about that.

I ran CCleaner the other night and I thought I would just run an Analyze to see what was there. It ran for a few seconds then came back with a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error.
I'm using CCleaner 2.06.567

You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, derive the source code of or modify [or create derivative work from] the program.I think what you're trying to do may be a "no no", and you may not get too much help. Also, I do have to commend you if your system info is still current, then you have the patients of a Saint.

I reccomended the C Cleaner to a friend. After running it she is not able to get into her Yahoo site builder 2.3
The icon and the program appear to be installed but nothing happens when you click on them.
If you can, right click on the icon for the program and see where the program is installed. You may be able to use the "find target" to make sure it's pointing to an actual program. If it was installed right from the Internet Explorer download and it was a temp file then it stands to reason that CCleaner could have deleted some of, if not all of the program. I would suggest downloading the program again and choose the "save" option when it asks to "save" or "run". Then reinstall and double check where it installs to.
I downloaded and installed the yahoo site builder and then ran the latest version of CCleaner and it worked fine.

After running CCleaner for the first time, my mouse pointer is now invisible in my documents. It is visible on the perimeter however. Not too computer savy but have changed the pointer and that doesn't help. I need to see the pointer instead of just guessing where to put it!!
1. When you say that the pointer isn't visible in "my documents", do you mean your "My Documents" folder or when you are typing a document in a program like Microsoft Word?
2. If you mean that you are using a program, what program is it?
3. Also have been using some of the "comet cursors" or have you downloaded any cursors that have special characters like flowers or dinosaurs?
4. What antispyware and antivirus programs you have?
5. Other than running CCleaner, have you installed any new programs?

Try using the latest version and after you run CCleaner, reboot the computer. Then check to see if the folder and files are still there. If they're still there then move on to the next steps I've listed.
It is safe to manually delete the folders in the "\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5" directory. Just close IE and then delete them if Windows will let you. If not you can try booting to Safe Mode (usually F8 during start up will get you there) and try it then. If that folder is still stuck, you can use "Unlocker".
This post is similar to another, so I'm going to copy what I put there.
This file is rebuilt by Windows automatically. Once you run the cleaner, reboot and see if it's smaller each time, it should be. If you still want to make sure it's really gone you can use, and use with caution, "Unlocker". This program will give several options for deleting files, including delete on reboot. Please use caution with it since you can delete files that Windows needs to run.After all that let us know how it went.

Since I was not using google or the tool bar I decided to delete all of google. I have deleted programs like yahoo and even google in the past with no problems. I like to keep my pc lean ,and if i'm not using programs ,I delete them. This is what I did. I typed in google in find after going to regedit.I kept pressing f3 and delete until it told me search complete,and could not find any more google intries. Next I went to search all files and typed in google.I deleded every thing . Iwas down to the last google entry,and excess was denied. This always happens. There is always one or two entrys that won't delete. usally after I restart my pc ,I can delete them.
Now you know that this is not the way to remove a program. Anytime you change the registry the effect is immediate and permanent. If you are going to try to change something in the registry, then you want to export the key you are changing or backup the whole thing. When you do it the way that you did the last time, I'm sure you removed extra keys that should have pointed to some of the networking files and that "broke" the network access.
The best way to remove a program under normal circumstances is use the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. You can also use the one that is built into CCleaner under Tools, but you do want to use caution there too because the one in CCleaner lists everything including Microsoft Updates and sometimes if a program is actually a group of programs, they will be listed by themselves, while if you use the "Add/Remove Programs" in Windows they'll probably be listed under that parent program. For instance, if you had any of the newer Norton or Symantec AntiVirus programs from 2006 or later then you would see several listings that are related, but if you just choose to remove "Norton Internet Security 2006" the installer/uninstaller program comes up and offers a "Remove All" to remove everything. Now most of the geeks here will know that Norton is "Notorious" for leaving lots of little bits behind once it is removed. Then you have to download the latest version of "SYMNRT" to remove what's left over. Then just to be extra tidy you run CCleaner and use the cleaner and then "scan for issues". When you "scan for issues", CCleaner is removing the extra bits left behind in the registry. That's why there is a backup offered before it fixes anything. You should always do this.
There are programs that will help you for adding and removing installed programs. They might take a bit longer to add and remove a program, but leave your system cleaner than just trusting the program uninstaller to get it right. You may like Revo Uninstaller. There are other programs like this one out there but this one seemed to have the best reviews.
As I was looking at the way you seem to like to run your system it occurred to me that you might really like "Sandboxie". Get your system set up with just the basics, such as the list on the "how to" page on my site listed above, such as, AVG, Firefox, Threatfire, and Cobian Backup. Do your Microsoft Updates. Maybe even defrag your hard drive, I do a defrag every two years whether the drive needs it or not
and then you install Sandboxie. If you don't want to use that program there are other "sandbox" programs out there.Good Luck!

Gandorwig - I'm a tech and will have a few suggestions and comments and now a couple more questions regarding your computer and software that may not necessarily have anything to do with this particular issue. Also I wouldn't worry too much about being banned for telling your story. Especially since you're here trying to find out if you have an actual bug, and if you do the folks at Piriform will be able to make CCleaner better after finding out what's wrong. You'll find that the people here are trying to be as helpful as possible. As geeks we're all opinionated and if you put ten of us in a room, you'll probably get ten different ways to do something. Most of all, we all agree that CCleaner is one of the best pieces of software you can arm yourself with to help keep your computer running smoothly.
I looked up what computer you have since you listed a Dell 3000 and found that it's about 4 years old. So that makes me ask if you've had the original hard drive replaced in it yet? If not then you should make sure that you've got some sort of backup system running, the entire Documents and Settings folder as well as any program folders that may have some of your personal data in them, like, AOL, Intuit/Quicken/Quick Books, TurboTax. These are some of the bad programs and older programs that would store your personal data in their own program folder and not in the Doc's and Settings > My Documents folder. You will want to back up to an external hard drive or another computer so then you can start looking at whether or not you're in for a new hard drive or computer. I use an excellent free backup program called Cobian Backup to run my backups. Most hard drive manufacturers try to get five years out of their drives and only a few will give a warranty for that long (I currently like the Seagate ES series for SATA drives and really none of the IDE drives).

So, are you nervous yet? - said with a bit of a knowing as well as evil grin. Don't be. Hard drives fail, it's not if, it's when. Just start doing backups and plan for it. If you're shopping for a new hard drive they're not too expensive but the labor can add up if you have it done for you. Next I looked up the regseeker since I hadn't heard of it, that's not saying anything since there are so many programs out there, anyway, it had good reviews. I do think it's possible that there could be some issue using that if it's locking any files that CCleaner is trying to remove and causing some possible conflict. I doubt this but I don't know exactly what regseeker is keeping tabs on, or removing.
On to the software part of the program. Are you using the actual "MSN Explorer" or just the MSN web site as a start page? And just to clarify this a bit more, "Internet Explorer" ("Internet Exploder") and the "MSN Explorer" are two different browsers and there is also a MSN webpage that is the default start page when you open Internet Explorer. Either way I really want to encourage you to make the switch to Firefox. There may well always be a need for Internet Explorer because some web sites simply won't work with Firefox. The MSN Explorer is just a customized program that is built to run using the Internet Explorer engine underneath the fancy skin on top. I have a page set up just for my clients and other techs that makes it pretty easy to find some of the better "Add-ons" for Firefox as well as several programs for a clean system that is functional for a lot of different tasks.

I'm a newbie here, and hope I do this right. When I up graded my CCleaner, google added thier tool bar. I heard some bad reports about them ,so I decided to delete the tool bar. No one will beleve me, but the very second I deleted the last entry, my pc went crazy.I had to reinstall windows with my cd.Im not a pro at this computer bussiness, but this happened. I have had my pc for 4 years and that has never happened before. I have deleted many such programs. CCleaner is my favorite program ,and I will always use it, but I have some bad fellings for google after that deal(gandorwig)
Several points -
1. This post should really be started as a new topic.
2. CCleaner has one major sponsor and it's the Yahoo! toolbar.
3. If you installed CCleaner and it installed the Google toolbar, please post the link where you downloaded that version of CCleaner.
4. Not that it's impossible, but the Google toolbar is outstanding for either Firefox or Internet Explorer. It has been installed on more computers than any other. It is unlikely that clearing out something would cause you to have to do a complete reinstall (and if there's a next time, on WinXP or Vista, first try the "last known good", and then, as much as I hate to use it, try using the system restore).
5. When you say that you deleted the last entry, exactly what are you referring to? Are you talking about the last entry in CCleaner, or the toolbar?
6. What security software do you use? Please list both AntiVirus and AntiSpyware programs.
7. What version of Windows do you have?

Just untick the Yahoo Toolbar box when doing the install, or download the slim version which has no toolbar.
The above is correct and you can find the slim version at the link below. That page will automatically update to the latest version. So if you have CCleaner set to check for new versions, and it notifies you a new version is available, then don't use the link built in, just ignore it and go to this same link each time.

CCleaner is being sponsored by yahoo so it's in their best interest to make the tool bar available, but not mandatory, in order to provide this great software for free. I'm willing to bet that during the install you accidentally missed the little checkbox to allow it to install or maybe clicked too fast to see it. I too have a Win2k SP4 machine and installed the slim version without issue.

First let me say that I'm more interested in why you chose to do a system restore than the possibility of CCleaner fixing the errors that the restore created.
So with that in mind would you be willing to answer some questions please?
1. Why did you do a system restore?
2. There was something about the system not coming with a cd. Was this computer a factory system or something that a local shop did for you?
3. If it's a factory type system, what's the brand name?
4. Does this system have multiple partitions?
5. How many user accounts does the machine have?
6. Are you in the habit of doing the system restore often?
With this information I / "we" may be able to offer better solutions to you. I will have some suggestions for your backups, especially for Firefox, for sure.

For all you nervous Nellie users, who haven't figured out that this a a false positive.
Quickly unplug your computer from then Internet, turn off the power and box up that computer. Then as fast as you can go uncover the doors to that bomb shelter in your backyard and hide until I call you and give you the secret password that the all-clear is given.
OK so that's being a bit sarcastic, but do you really think that out of the MILLIONS of other users who have had no sign of infection, or the other programs that are hosted on the the same servers as CCleaner, and out of all of those you'd think there would be a serious call to arms. But there isn't, so don't you think you could just tell your antivirus program to ignore the CCleaner files and have it clean your system better than you could do it yourself? Stop worrying about a program that you really know in your heart is safe.
And just for a little run down about me and of what I use. I'm a computer tech who works on other people's computers at their location or back here at my home/shop. About 80% of the time the first thing I look at, regardless of what the call is about, is the security. I use the latest versions of - CCleaner, AVG AntiVirus, SpySweeper (AntiSpyware only), Spyware Doctor (free with the Google Pack), SUPER AntiSpyware, ClamAV, and just for good measure, sometimes Trend Micro House Calls, and my network is run by a SmoothWall 3.0. NONE of the security programs have flagged CCleaner.

False Positive, False NegativeThese terms derive from their use in statistics. If it is claimed that a file or boot sector is infected by a virus when in reality it is clean, a false positive (or Type-I) error is said to have occurred. Conversely, if a file or boot sector that is infected is claimed to not be infected, a false negative (or Type-II) error has been made. From an antivirus perspective, false negatives probably seem more serious than false positives, but both are undesirable. False positives can cause a great deal of down-time and lost productivity because proving a program cannot replicate under some condition or other is generally much more time consuming than discovering the conditions under which a viral program will replicate.
With good known-virus scanners, false positives are rare. However, they can arise if the scan string for a virus is poorly chosen, say because it is also present in some benign programs. False negatives are a more common problem with virus scanners because known-virus scanners tend to miss completely new or heavily modified viruses. False positives have, historically, been quite a problem for scanners that make heavy use of heuristic detection mechanisms.
Another related, serious problem is the situation where a scanner detects a virus, but incorrectly identifies which. Such misdiagnosed positives can lead to terrible problems if the scanner, or its user, then engages in a virus-specific disinfection routine based on detailed knowledge of the 'detected' virus' characteristics. 'Generic disinfection' procedures are not entirely immune from such problems either.

I have experienced the same problem as you have. I just installed the last version of CCleaner and it reported this trojan. Surprisingly, it did not report this trojan when I had the previous version. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times from various websites and it reports the same problem. I like this programe very much but I also trust the zonealarm which have never reported a false positive until now. I don't know. I might stick with th previous version instead of this one

I don't normally respond to posts like this very much once I've had my say, but in this case I have to. I work on a lot of different computers with different setups all the time. I've worked with a lot of antivirus programs and security software in general. All that being said, trusting ANY program to never have false positives, is just silly. THEY ALL DO! It may not happen often, and some are better than others, but there just isn't any perfect software, even CCleaner. However in this case the best bet after seeing it come up on several systems with ZoneAlarm, when we know CCleaner isn't being reported as infected by any other antivirus, then the conclusion is simple, your software is the one that's on the wrong side in this case. You're concluding that every other antivirus vender in the world is missing that CCleaner is infected. That's just not likely.
Mark the CCleaner files that have been found by ZoneAlarm as safe, or ignore, whatever is needed and be done with it.

Hi.
I've never been able to see the full executiion of CC on a dell inspiron 6400 1 gb ram. vista 32 bits spanish...
when ran cc, it show the nag screen to authorize execution (i know that can be avoided, but I think if it is there... perhaps is for one good reason..) and off it goes... starts to do its job, but suddendly it disapears from screen.. the weird thing is if I config to several passes (NSA 7 passes) it makes several passes before disapearing (It looks like if it were a problem with the progress bar) allways at the 75% (aprox) is disappears, whaetever the security level (passes) is.

I don't know any Spanish so here is my suggestion in English. Before you run CC the next time, go to the Options, then Advanced. On that panel check to see if you have the box checked to "Close Program after Cleaning". If it's checked, un-check it.

I have set CCleaner to *not* automatically search for updates.
Nevertheless, with each Windows-start the URL http://www.CCleaner.com/update is launched.
How can I stop this?
Davey is right on with what he said, and Davey btw nice list of questions - I'll probably steal it. Once you've done the suggestions Davey gave, and if you're still getting the update page launching, try using this tool with caution.

It's an excellent tool that will tell you about anything that runs at startup. It wasn't originally written by MS, so you don't have to worry that it's spying on you.
Just use caution in removing start up items, it will let you remove things that you really do want to start up. The tool has a feature that will let you do a web search about any item it finds (right click on any item).

Help! My ZoneAlarm Pro just completed a scan and reported a trojan in CCleaner.exe . The name listed in my ZoneAlarmPro associated with the trojan is "Win32.Backdoor.Delf.cir". I quarantines it, which removed CCleaner.exe and my desktop icon for CCleaner. Has anyone else had a problem? I haven't looked at the Zone Alarm forums to see if there's information about it there.

It's 99.99% chance that you've just witnessed a "false positive". Make sure you download the CCleaner program from a known good site like Major Geeks and reinstall it. If ZoneAlarm sees it as a trojan again then you need to tell the program that it is safe and to ignore it in the future scans.

It says my C is corrupt and unreadable. The instructions are "run chkdsk,utility on the volume c:. I've searched through everything and read the "help" section and nothing computes. I don't have clue as to what to do. Where do I find chkdsk.utility? How do I run it on volume C?

The very first thing you need to do when you start getting errors like that is to back up all your data. When you start getting chkdsk (check disk) errors, that could be a sign that your hard drive will fail soon. I would use a program called Cobian Backup - free - and backup the entire Documents and Settings folder as well as any program folders that may have some of your personal data in them, like, AOL, Intuit/Quicken/Quick Books, TurboTax. These are some of the bad programs and older programs that would store your personal data in their own program folder and not in the Doc's and Settings > My Documents folder. You will want to back up to an external hard drive or another computer so then you can start looking at whether or not you're in for a new hard drive or computer.
While you may only have a couple of bad system files, it's likely that at the very least you're going to need to reload your computer from scratch. Once this type of error starts popping up, you don't usually get a good recovery.

I am new to CCleaner and it has worked great for me.
I have some folders included to be cleaned each time I run the cleaner, but they are not being included. Please let me know what I am doing wrong.
For example: "c:\program files\trend micro\internet security\log\*.*
On the first screen you should see when you open CCleaner you will look under the "Windows" tab and at the bottom make sure you have the box checked for "Custom Files and Folders". From there you want to go to the Options and set up your folders to be cleaned in the "Include" section.

Perhaps you mean....
CCleaner > options > settings 'Add Run CCleaner to the recycle Bin'
Also in the options > settings you can also add the secure delete.
I have a couple of pages that have many of the settings shown in pictures.

In re-reading you post I have a couple of other things. First you don't have to have CCleaner run at startup. And second, are you right clicking on the Recycle Bin icon or looking in the Recycle Bin folder?

- of course it's always a good idea to backup the entire reg when working on it just in case). Then I would also download a new copy of the program. It certainly doesn't happen often, but the download could be corrupted.

This is the first version to support a beta browser that I know of. You need to get the latest version here. I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if the search as you type will be cleared, but my hunch is if it isn't on this version, it will be by the time FF3 comes out.
