No your system software and hardware configuration are all from different vendors are not designed for interoperability.

Well - I'm calling it a day now. I don't so much mind throwing ?10 away as the mess its made of my computer. I have to work and don't have time to look for remedies for remedies.......I'm uninstalling CCleaner and will post the list of drawbacks which I personally have discovered every Forum I go into.....might save some other people from this experience.
Good luck with your own probs............

Well, you can try "System Restore" to see if that fixes your system.
I aint no rocket scientist. but I use Ccleaner 3 times a day & have NEVER had any problems. And doubt I ever will as long as I dont mess with stuff I dont know about. like advance settings. Instead of bashing this fine freeware i,d suggest You look for other problems with something more reliable then NORTON. & You said You are running a newly updated NORTON . Hum ? Thats where I,d start lookin for problems. Just My opinion. Cowboy
Yeah, I once had Norton on my computer, and then my mom found out and she almost disowned me.

Well, you only need todo it once (unless you uninstall CCleaner, then you have todo it again).
-
Maybe try another BitTorrent client such as the official one from bittorrent.com
Personally I use ABC [Another BitTorrent Client], it seems okay.
-
Sometimes you have to run the Issue scanner 2-3 times for it to delete all stuff.

It is probably better to keep the files in GIF format rather than SWF.
Because probably more people have a system that can display GIF pictures than SWF animations.
And SWF uses more CPU power.

You can easily configure to CCleaner to keep the cookies you want while deleting the rest of the unneeded cookies that you don't want.
In CCleaner, click on "Options" then click on "Cookies".

I didn't like miranda. I'm not a big IM user but Miranda just seemed ugly. I use gaim when I do use IM and I have portable gaim on my flash drive.
I love it, its so beautiful in its simplicity. It's not ugly, it can be heavily customized with plugins to look very different, and you can use background pictures, change icons, change sounds, etc. One configuration of Miranda IM can look totally different to another depending on what icons, background picture, plugins, etc you have.

Could be place-bo effect, heh.
I wonder if there are any side-effects.

I use normal file deletion mode, files are still recoverable for some time with recovery tools.
Due to the way hard disks work it might be possible to recover files.
With secure file deletion mode, CCleaner overwrites the files it deletes several times to prevent recovery. The more passes you use, the more difficult it is to recover.
DOD-5220.22-M is 3 passes and apparently good enough for the Department of Defense for most stuff so I guess it should be good enough for you too.
NSA is 7 passes and apparently good enough for the NSA, so I guess it should be good enough for you too.
1 overwrite is probably good enough that it isn't possible to recover with any recovery software, but it may still be possible to recover data in expensive labs.
Gutmann method isn't implemented by CCleaner, but it uses 35 passes of overwrite.
The more passes, the more time it takes.
Btw, thanks Andavari for the link to wikistc, I didn't knew about that wiki, it seems really really interesting, I will definitely check it out!

IE who? IE what?
Bitch, I got Firefox!
I'm not excited one bit whatsoever from the IE7 screenshots I've seen. But with that said I don't really use it that often and only for the MS Updates website or a website that doesn't function correctly in either Opera or Firefox, the only thing useful in my opinion would be enhanced security to avoid some exploits, that is until one month later when it gets patched, and the month after that, etc.
I agree 100%.

Both are good. And it depends what you like and personal flavour and so.
I use Miranda IM and I like it, its light-weight and modular with a plugin architecture.
-
Well, it has nice colors.
-
Well, try out both Firefox and Opera and decide which one you like the best.
Both are good standards-compliant web browsers and both are better than Internet Explorer.
Personally I use Firefox myself, and I like it alot. I am pleased with it. I like that it has extensions and I use adblock to get rid of banners and advertisement.

If it caused you problems, you could try use "System Restore" function in Windows.
Sucks that the source code isn't available for inspection to see what is doing what and what could potentially cause trouble, because not the first time I heard people loosing stuff after using CCleaner, and loosing data sucks, especially if it is important data.

Well, if its 9 year old, it probably won't be able to open most documents since most documents are created with new version of Word such as Word 2002.

Isn't there the potential that these sites are just wanting for you to connect through their site so they can steal your passwords? They even say they keep logs.
I guess if you just have to get on myspace at work or school then this is your way.(untill they block it anyway.)
Yes, that is very possible.
It could also be operated by the feds.
Thanks for the website, didn't know about that one. Yes, you can use Tor too, I like Tor, I have used it before too, it's good.

Microsoft Word Viewer 97 is 9 years old?
People still use that?

With the web service, BLASTProxy you can surf the Internet somehow anonymously.

Thanks for mentioning xp-AntiSpy, I didn't know about it until I read this thread. It seems to be pretty ok.

MS has a right to protect their product and ensure they recieve payment for their work. If I built someone a house and they move in but don't pay me, guess what? They are getting thrown out of that house. Its the same thing, you installed their software but didn't pay so now they are throwing you out. I don't have a problem with it as long as they don't aggrivate me while doing it.(example WGA telling valid users they aren't)
Yes, it is true that they have the right to protect their product. However, I do feel that it is an annoyance. You can be a person with a legal copy of Windows and still dislike their protection stuff. Nobody likes the piracy-protection things, I am sure alot of people who bought legal copy of Windows would like it better without them.
In your mind the person doesn't loose anything but in actuallity they loose profits. If your software was your only form on income and people only pirated it you wouldn't make any money and would be poor. Sure their are those who can and do make software for free but everyone can't do that.Well, example Mary 47, she has an illegal copy of Adobe Photoshop, she use it about 2-3 times a month maybe, she likes it, but she doesn't really need it as she rarely use it. She enjoys having it, but if it wasn't possible for her to get her hands on it for free, she wouldn't go out and buy it anyways. Mary enjoys Photoshop, Adobe looses nothing.
John 13, hears his friends in school talk about a movie, hes curious about it, so he download it on the Internet just to see whats the fuss is about. If he wouldn't be able to get it for free, he wouldn't go out and buy the movie anyways.
Bob 72, wants to watch some old movies from the 60's and 70's, from his childhood, he cant find any place to buy these old movies, so he looks for them on the Internet and finds them, he download them but its illegal because the copyright have not expired. He enjoys the movies, the company who made them lost nothing, as he wouldn't be able to find a legal copy to buy anyways.
People who buy macs usually don't want windows anyway and they buy macs for a reason. When they buy them they know what they are getting and they agree to whatever apple says because thats what they want. I think its a nice feature but I bet most mac users aren't using it and would laugh at the thought of buying a mac and using windows on it.Yes, it would be silly to buy a Mac and then run Windows on it, I agree. Many Mac users indeed would laugh at the idea. But I am sure there are people with Mac's or interested in Mac's who would like to run Mac OS X but dualboot Windows to run some certain piece of software that don't exist for Mac OS X or some games.
Wrong, you paid for the computer and you agreed to thier terms when you did so. If you don't like it don't buy it.You have to sign a license and agree to terms nowadays to buy a computer?
When I buy something, it is mine, and I should be able to do what I want with it.
If I buy pepper, I'll snort it if I want to. If I buy a underwear, I'll wear them on my head if I want to. If I buy a pair of Jeans, I'll wash them in 150? degres if I want to.
No way in hell I would sign a license and agree to terms that restricted what I could do with a product.
