  1. Hi Keeper2All,

    Welcome to a great forum.

One Vet to another, Thanks for your service.

Yes, there are dangers on the net. Also wonderful places to visit and learn about.Plus hundreds of millions of good people.

You will find some of them right here.

Looks like you learned something new today!

    Best Wishes,

    :) davey

  2. Hello tinyspirit,

Looks like you have been experiencing quite a few problems.

The Cleaner function of CCleaner removes Temporary files and work files that Applications produce that users need cleaned.

Your Autocomplete Form History is probably gone. You must have checked it for cleaning.

As far as the backup files you refer too, they are created to restore registry settings that were changed or removed by the Registry cleaning function of CCleaner. This is also done only at your initiation.

You can Merge the changes back to your Registry in reverse order that you created them. You will find them in My Documents.

If you set your options correctly CCleaner is exceptionally thourough and fast.

CCleaner does not run in the background, unless you set it up to run at reboot. Then it only runs very briefly. You should not see CCleaner.exe as a Process in Task Manager unless you are currently running it.

    Best Wishes,

  4. Hello again stewy,

In order to keep your mind occupied click on this link.

These are the works of a real forum Expert. You can also read his other important Posts by clicking on the buttons on the left.Anyway look into what he has to say about Picasa photo software. You can link to it from there. But don't try using it or anything else until you hear from JDPower or a Moderator.

There may be a simpler way to handle your situation.

    Hello kissbaby,

You must read the forum quite a bit.

You have provided all the right information for problem reporting.

Thank you for also taking the steps to scan for malware on your computer.

Yes ,this is small "bug" in the final totals logic of Run Cleaner vers 02.04

Click on OPTIONS function click on ADVANCED button.

Check the boxes relating to IE LOG LISTING and FIREFOX LOG LISTING.

This will get around the "bug" until next version.

    Good Luck,

[solution] Registry Issues Keep Re-appearing In CCleaner

Thanks TwistedMetal for making this Post of yours to Dial-a Fix.

I followed your simple instructions and cleaned up some of the kinks in my Registry.

I will go back there and do a little more read and learn.

I still have a 26 item list of "unused file extensions" that CCleaner and Regseeker report but leave alone

when asked to fix or delete them.No sweat, they don't really seem to be causing any harm.

Looks like a good source of MVP knowledge and fixes there at Dial-a-Fix.Well thought out.No wonder the old version

    had such a long life-span.

It has changed a little. No need to worry about "full" or "medium" versions. He has created a new version.

You may want to update your Post.Latest updates I saw were Jan. 26,2008.

    Thanks Again,

    :) davey

  13. Hi Vic,

Yeah Vic I can't blame your concern.Only 3 simple systems. All with previously installed.Uninstalled and new versions reinstalled. All settings reset to users wishes.Nothing complex like what you are handling.

Hope Piriform can give you a more detailed answer.

  14. Hello mbrown,

From reading your Post I thought you may be thinking that CCleaner was providing you a list of Programs that should be deleted.

I may have misunderstood your meaning or intentions.

I provide the following advice for all CCleaner users.

New or inexperienced users should not Uninstall or Delete any Programs.

At least not without help and/or a greater understanding of the consequences ,which could be troubling to disasterous.

Deleting software or changing the Windows Registry is not recommended without such help or experience..

The Tools function in CCleaner is in response to some requests by more experienced users in the past.

The UNINSTALL feature is a more detailed list than what is provided by using Add/Remove Programs feature in Windows. This allows functions that are not even available in Add/Remove Programs.

This list is not created from a scan to determine which programs should be removed or to even suggest that they be removed.

The STARTUP feature should be treated likewise.

All users are advised to read and review the Beginners Guide which I think should be renamed and expanded as the CCleaner Users Guide.

    Best Wishes To All,

  15. Hello mbrown,

Please don't delete or uninstall any programs on the Uninstall screen.

It seems to me that you may be under the impression that CCleaner is telling you to uninstall

    these programs.

I m busy right now but I will be back with more information.

Please read the Beginners Guide listed at the top of the forum list.

Save all settings to INI file checked in Options then Advanced.

But I don't see any of that. I guess you mean:

Go to internet \ extra \ internet options \ advanced \

    then where is it?

I have the Dutch version of Windows XP service pack 2.

    Hi,

In the CCleaner window you will see the OPTIONS function listed on the left..

Click on that then click on Advanced button.

    Good Luck,

    :) davey

  17. Sorry, the above is incorrect! It is the Start Menu Shortcuts that are taking long. Maybe I do have a very long start menu (All Users, and my own), but still I think it shouldn't take that long to check the Start menu items. (Desktop Shortcuts is very quick, and I have a lot of shortcuts on my desktop.)

    Hello,

I am not sure if this will speed things up for you or not.

It did for my system.I am using Win XP SP3 BETA.( SP 2 when I used this option the first time.).

Try ticking the box for User Assist History under Advanced cleaning options.

Warning message will come up when you do.

Inexperienced users are advised that it will temporarily empty their list of most frequently used promams in the Start Menu. They will start to refill the list as they run these programs from the Desktop

or the All Programs menu on the Start Menu.

This cleaned out hundreds of entries built up over 3.5 years of use.

REMEMBER to uncheck this box after using it or the list will be cleaned each time you use the Cleaner function.

Hope this speeds things up for you like it did for me.

  18. Hello,

Maybe it is because it's previous user liked to autmatically update, auto start, all his software updates, security programs, along with cleaning programs ,and defraggers all at the same time.Of course if you are proudly an "heavyduty multi-tasker" you can do the same thing manually.

Plus every time something takes "forever" you cancel it,stop the task or just pull the plug.

Now your Registry and data is bent like a soft pretzel or a mobius loop.

I am still trying to cleanup and untangle this mess.

The current user has nothing to do with it being in this shape.Right ???
