Did you re-boot your computer after running CCleaner (only necessary to delete index.dat files)?

Go to Beginners Guide link listed at top of this forum.

Some Administrators are smarter than you think.Especially, if they like Country Music. B)

They can be very tactful. They have apparently given advance notice.Cclean up your act and follow

    the rules.

  2. Hi rage,

Good news is you can bring up the browser like right now at the upper right and click on Tools then click on Delete Browsing History.

Bad news is administrators have other tools that show when and where you have "browsed the internet".

Best advice I can give is follow the rules. :o davey

  3. I also have experienced the slowness of cleaning or analyzing as it takes more than 2 minutes with empty temps.

Following the suggestion within this post, I have downgraded to v.1.4.544 and now the cleaning is taking seconds as normal.

The version that caused the problem is the latest (CCleaner 2.03.532).

    System specific status during cleaning:

    No anti Malware/anti Spyware active

    Internet Norton Security online.

No applications (browsers, email clients, etc) are running during cleaning

    My system specs: Toshiba Laptop

    Model Name Satellite M70

OS Version Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2

    BIOS Version V1.10

CPU Intel? Pentium? M processor 1.73GHz

    Physical Memory 512MB RAM

    Hard Disk Capacity 149.048 [GB]

    Browser MSIE v.7

    regards,

    Hi aljuhani.

Excellent info. Were you using a v1.xx.xxx version prior to v2.03.532?

Did you uninstall the prior version before installing the new version?I know you were told you do not need to do this but this info may be helpful. It may not even be pertinent but every little bit helps resolve some of these bugs.Any other thoughts you may have?

I personally started with v2.02.527.I have not had any problems with either version.

Thanks again for your information. :) davey

  4. Hi Ediseye,

There were many requests for something being displayed so users would know something was actually was being processed.I think this is the development teams response to this request

Quite a few improvements. davey :)

  5. yeah post one :D

    EDIT:

i have found an alternative way on how to remove the ctfmon.exe. it can be found here :D

    Well q123 Hello,

You never know what you might find following these threads.

    I went to your link.

Boy was that tough. All that clicking and checking and applying.Just to get rid of CTFMON.EXE .

Of course Millions of others have been wondering how to do it.

    SIMPLE.

THANKS for the link, :o davey

By the way now I'm down from about 55 processes to 39.It all helps when you only have 256 MB of RAM.Every little bit removed helps keep the page rate down.

  6. Hi Barrie,

A few other users have reported the same problem as you are experiencing.

The info you have provided helps. What is also needed is an idea of what software you may also be using while using CCleaner i.e. Firefox, IE8 , maybe some background malware protection etc.

They are trying to track down this problem and need as much info about the circumstances as you you can provide. Your INPUT is appreciated. THANKS, :) davey

    Hi Andavari,

I have been doing a lot of research this morning also.. Your second link to

    http://dougknox.com/xp/xp_fixes.html

In right hand list " RESTORE CD/DVD DRIVES TO EXPLORER"

worked for me ..I am not sure what he does in the program i.e. Fix any registry settings or just uninstall the devices then search for new hardware but it worked earlier for me. Kelly has a link to dougknox.com program like you said. KELLY is a good "fix" website too. However Microsoft may recommend reboot to go through all the related software for other related drivers etc.

From all I read this morn, there a lot of media type devices CD, DVD, WEBCAM,audio, media players etc. that can go haywire when old media type software or drivers are removed or attempted to be removed. Some solutions are as simple as uninstall the CODE 32 device in DEVICE MANAGER and then use Search for New Hardware in the tool bar and restart to solve the problem.

Some other fixes were put old software back until able to get a fix.

All the problems have same message" A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

DELL support "online or live" has been great to me.

TOM IS TIGHT ON TIME. I hope we can get him going soon.

A good day is a day when you can learn something new. I've had a good day (night / morn).

I also to try to avoid playing with the Registry.Thats why I like how gentle CCleaner is with the Registry. Most other reported problems in other reg cleaners are nothing to be worried about.

Thanks for your valuable input and knowledgeable advice. :) davey

  8. Hi TOM,

No TOM I was rephrasing what Microsoft says to do after making your Registry changes.Look at the link Hazel gave you for the Microsoft references. Restart after making all your changes not each change. Good Luck, davey

  9. Hi Tom,

EDITED 12/19/2007 6:61 AM EST TIME USA

A quick note to inform you that I forgot to ask about your system specs, etc.

Have you tried restarting in safe mode by clicking on F8 while rebooting?

Sure you can try a system restore. I wonder how your devices got uninstalled.

If that doesn't work click on My Computer click on View System Information click on Support Information. There you get your tag info and then contact your manufacturer web site. You should be able to reinstall what you need from there without need of a cd drive.Apparently right now your system doen't even know it has REmovable Storage drives.I will be looking into this.

If this problem re-occurs you may have picked up some malware somewhere. There have been some coming from phony link websites advertising free "burning" software.

If this is related we need to know your specs and related circumstances to track down a problem.

I even uninstalled some of my own drives and everything was restored when I restarted. The system recognized "newly installed" hardware and reset everything.Iwent to my computer and there were my drives back again.

As you can tell I hunt and peck type but I wanted to get back to you as quickly as possible.Let me know whatever happens Ok? Good Luck! :) davey

  10. Here's my info for your thesis CeeCee,

    My DELL DIMENSION 2400

    Purchased March,2004

    Using SIW SENSORS

Apparently no other sensors Re your discussion about how long ago did PC come with or witout

    sensors.

    Property Value

    HDD Temperature (ST380011A) 22 ?C (72 ?F)

    Room Temp 70 F

    No apps run in awhile

    Outside Temp 28 F

I tried a white lab coat, mask and latex gloves.I even told my PC "I am from the government and I am here to help you!". But the moment I pulled out that rectal thermometer, I got a "Blue Screen" then my PC shut down. It refused to BOOT until I removed the gear and apologized for terrifying it by saying I was from the government. :o:blink::angry:

  11. Hi TheSleeper,

LOOK in the OPTIONS window under Advanced.

You will see that the option to keep Windows Temp folders for 48 hrs is checked.

This is to keep those folders available for awhile longer. They may be needed for some work you still have to do.

You can UNcheck this but it is advisable to recheck it ASAP.

I found it better all around to leave it this way.

You will probably see it and some other files MARKED FOR DELETION.

Some files won't delete until a restart.

    Happy Holidays!!! :) davey

P.S. Dont check any Advanced options in the Cleaner window unless you really understand what they do. They can cause you troubles and not give you much in return.

They are for Advavced users only!!! Visit the web site below to read the Beginners Guide.

CCleaner is a great and safe product to use. Read the Beginners Guide before using it.

  12. Looks like "Lake Effect" storms they have east of Lake Erie. I think Buffalo,N.Y. and nearby cities claim to be "Snow Removal Capital of the World" If not then "of the U.S."

Amazingly, only a few miles away the area can be completely free of ice and snow.

HA-HA WE'VE COME A LONG WAY FROM DESKTOPS! WHAT THE HEY!! IT'S WINTER AND ISN'T

IT COZY SITTING ROUND OUR NICE WARM PC's.

P.S. I can't help going back and watching more! Can you believe the number of views in such a short time. I can. HA-HA-HA HO-HO-HO. I can't find an "Emotion" icon for "Rolling on the floor"!!!

These guys do terrific work.:):)

  14. Hi Tom.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with CCleaner.

    Try this.

click on start. click on My Computer. right click on dvd drive icon.

click on Properties. click on Hardware tab.click on dvd drive in list.

Down on bottom at Device usage select deice enable. click OK.

Now point to next drive you want to enable and do the same.

Not sure but you may have to restart to load the drivers. GOOD LUCK!!!Come back and let us know how it went. davey

P.S. Don't burn too many Christmas presents. The Fire Dept. and Santa might get upset.:lol::lol:

  15. Do you have copies of this software on your desktop PC? Maybe you can transfer them. :o

I recommend waiting for help first. These helpers can save you hours of time and less troubles.

    Edited 5:50 pm Est USA

After a little more thought, you may still not be out of luck.I hope you are using your desktop and not using your laptop to discuss this problem. You may still have a restore point prior to uninstalling. This may help.

In the meantime Post back some more info regarding your system and what you mean about not being able start the programs. For example "all my shortcut icons are gone" "my start menu is empty" ETC.

Don't use your laptop if possible!!!

  16. Seems like you had a lot of software in Temp files.Never a good idea to do a Defrag after you think you have lost some data. This makes it harder or impossible to recover.I hope some of the Experts can help you out. There are some very knowledgeable people on this forum. Good Luck!!!
