  1. Remove:  [Microsoft Edge More*]

    I recommend that this cleaning module be removed from Winapp2.ini.  MS Edge is in development and this module cleans too much.  For example, it removes all imported favorites/bookmarks. Who knows what it may improperly clean as Microsoft incorporates enhancements/features into Edge.

  2. Whereas Microsoft is retiring Internet Explorer and Edge is far from being fully functional and "security ready", I have elected to default my browser to Google Chrome on my Windows 10 systems.  After a couple of weeks of using Chrome, I discovered this a.m. that our Winapp2.ini's [html5 Storage*] cleaning code is not cleaning Chrome's File System folder.  In fact, this folder had grown to 3.5+ gigabytes in size since my installation of Chrome.  See the code below for this element.

    As a neophyte Chrome user, I am wondering why FileKey1 should not be changed to FileKey1=%LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome*\User Data\*\File System|*.*|RECURSE to clean out this entire folder.  From what I read via a "Chrome HTML5 Storage" search, it appears safe/proper to fully clean out this "File System" folder.

    I yield to users who have Chrome experience and knowledge.

  8. Did excluding Container.dat from hulu stop the crashes? I had this for Bing Weather* "ExcludeKey1=FILE|%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.BingWeather_*\AC\*\|container.dat"

    But it still ends up crashing.

    Well...Yes I think it now prevents CCleaner from breaking HuluPlus, Bing Weather and Netflix.  HOWEVER, there are other utilities that come along and remove container.dat.  One of them is MS's Disk Cleanup and another is AVG PC TuneUp.  I've unchecked "Temporary Internet Files" in Disk Cleanup and am not using AVG PC TuneUp's cleaner utility to see if these Apps stay operational.

    Another utility that breaks these apps is the built-in Automatic Maintenance of Windows 8/10.

  9. Revised Entry:  [HuluPlus*]

    In my original submission of [HuluPlus*] posted above, for some unknown reason CCleaner does not honor the ExcludeKey1 for retaining the file named container.dat.  It may be because the file is 0 kb in size....I really do not know why.  In the code below, I modified FileKey1 and FileKey2 plus eliminated the ExcludeKey1

  11. I've been trying to figure this out too. Every time I try to reproduce it, it will stop working randomly which makes it hard to pin point. Was thinking it might be the container.dat files

    Do you happen to use any other cleaning program such as AVG PC TuneUp?  The Cleaner routine in TuneUp will also break Bing Weather and HuluPlus

  12. It appears that [bing Weather*] is causing this app to stop working properly on Windows 10 x64 Professional.  Randomly Bing Weather will begin opening and then immediately shutdown.  In order to get the app to work properly again, I have to

    1.  Open CMD.exe>Run as Administrator

    2.  Enter the following command string: PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.BingWeather).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}

    3.  Push Enter and let PowerShell fix the app.

    I have not yet tracked down which line entry within the [bing Weather*] code is breaking the app.

  16. Does anyone know whether deleting the numerous .etl files in %CommonData%\USOShared\Logs will have any negative impact on Windows 10?  It appears to be related to Windows Update checking.  I think it is just a log file area for Windows Update to log results of running a Windows Update check.  However I cannot find much about it on the web.  The Log folder looks like it will grow quite large if not cleaned out.

    Modified FileKey5 from FileKey5=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache|*.*|RECURSE to FileKey5=%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Low\|*.*|RECURSE

    Reason:  Clearing the entire INetCache folder kills the Album Art "folder cover" switching on certain music player gadgets.  The gadgets can no longer display the album cover of the currently playing .mp3.  These players use the WMP plugin instead of using the full blown WMPlayer.exe.  This is on systems where third party software has been added to re-incorporate Windows Sidebar into Windows 8 and Windows 10.

    Detect2=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0

    Detect3=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0

    Default=False

    FileKey1=%SystemDrive%\MSOCache|*.*|REMOVESELF

    Note:  If the MSOCache folder for MS Office is removed, Office cannot perform its repair function if needed/requested.  Nor cannot it perform normal Office updates unless the user has the MS Office installation CD to insert at the time of the updates.  I recommend that this new entry not be added to Winapp2.ini.

  20. Modified Entry:

    -  Changed [ThumbsPlus 8/9*] to  [ThumbsPlus 8/9/10*] for newly released Thumbsplus 10.

    -  Modified FileKey1 to include *.7z,*.exc,*.png

    [ThumbsPlus 8/9/10*]
    LangSecRef=3023
    Detect=HKCU\Software\Cerious Software Inc.
    Default=False
    FileKey1=%AppData%\Thumbsplus|*.log;*.bak;*.dmp;*.7z;*.exc;*.png

  21. Below are a list of names that need to changed to accommodate Windows 10.

    [Windows 7/8/10 MUICache*]

    [Windows 7/8/10 QuickLaunch*]

    [Windows 7/8/10 ShellBags*]

    [Windows 8/10 ScreenShot Index*]

    [Windows 8/10 Search History*]

    [Windows 8/10 Sharing MFU*]

    [Windows 8/10 Start Menu Cache*]

    These are showing up in CCleaner on my Windows 10 x64 Pro Tech Preview Build 10166 systems.  In checking the code, it does appear that they all apply to Windows 10.

  22. Modified entry:  [CyberLink Crash Dumps*]

    -  Added FileKey3  and FileKey4 to incorporate PowerDVD 15

    [CyberLink Crash Dumps*]
    LangSecRef=3023
    Detect=HKCU\Software\CyberLink
    Default=False
    FileKey1=%CommonAppData%\CyberLink\Boomerang\*\|*.xml;*.dmp
    FileKey2=%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\CyberLink\Boomerang\*\|*.xml;*.dmp
    FileKey3=%CommonAppData%\CyberLink\PowerDVD15\Boomerang\*\|*.xml;*.dmp
    FileKey4=%LocalAppData%\VirtualStore\ProgramData\CyberLink\PowerDVD15\Boomerang\*\|*.xml;*.dmp

  23. Correct question is: "are you sure everyone wants them deleted" Rule number one: is it actual trash or just aomething some/many don't use. If the latter, then it should not be included.

    In retrospect I have to agree.  [PowerDVD*] should be deleted from Winapp2.ini.  User playlists should not be removed by CCleaner.  My "bad" to post a modified entry; my "good" to bring forth code that should not be in Winapp2.ini :)

  24. Modified entry:  [PowerDVD*]

    -  Moved to Multimedia section

    -  Modified Detect to Detect1

    -  Added Detect2

    -  Added wildcard to FileKey1 and FileKey2

    (Note:  I suspect more Detect entries are needed for CyberLink's PowerDVD versions prior to PowerDVD15; however, I do not know)

    [PowerDVD*]

    Detect2=HKCU\Software\Cyberlink\PowerDVD15
