Network settings are often a cause of slow boot times. One common problem is that a network card has the TCP/IP protocol loaded and is set to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server, but no server is available. The PC will wait up to a minute for an answer from the server before it gives up and continues booting.
The solution to this problem depends on how your network is configured. You can check network settings through Start | Settings | Control Panel | Network. (Don't make changes here if you're on a company network that is supported by a network administrator; check with them first.)
If you're not using TCP/IP on your local network, only for ISP dial-up, then just remove the binding between the network card and the TCP/IP protocol. You'll see this in the Network dialog as a line that reads "TCP/IP -> (network card name)". Select that item and click Remove.
If you are using (or trying to use) TCP/IP on your local network, then you either need to have a DHCP server running on the network or use manually-assigned IP addresses. For most small networks of Windows 9x systems, manually-assigned addresses work fine. The "10 dot" range is a good one to use for a small network. For each PC on the network, give it a unique IP number in the sequence 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2, 10.0.0.3, and so on. You set this number in the Network dialog. Select the entry "TCP/IP -> (network card name)" and click Properties. On the IP Address tab, choose "Specify an IP address" and enter the unique IP number you've chosen for this system. For the subnet mask, enter "255.0.0.0" for all systems.
Tell me if this helps.

Can extentions slow down page rendering?
I know it might slow down the intial Firefox start up, but can it effect page rendering?

Maybe now you'll clean up a bit more often.

Just tested it, and not impressed. The installation is tricky, to say the least. Even though I followed all the instructions, it would not read my profile, so I ended up doing system restore. And then Firefox would not start. Ended up re-installing the official Firefox build, but at least it read my original profile.
For the few minutes that it actually did work, it did not speed up surfing noticeably. Mabey by a few fractions of a second

Found this thread, with lots and lots of Firefox tweaks.

Foxy Tunes is another must have. I dont like the default skin, but you can download nicer ones on the same website.
My favourite is Revolutions Lite which you can check out here, among others.

For some strange reason IE doesn't seem to want to install any active x controls. I re-formatted about 2 months ago. It's definetly not malware related, and has nothing to do with the security settings in IE or my firewall/av. Here's my thread in another forum, with everything that I have tried so far.
For those too lazy to click this is basicly it:
Running XP Pro SP2 (legit)
When I try to install an active x control, nothing happens and I get Code Download Error logs in my temp folder.
Used the M$ code error log veiwer
Tried sfc /scannow
Re-isntalling IE
Checked the group policy editor.
And a few other things, all of which are in the link at the beginning of the post.
Thanks
Im really stumped on this

There's no way Norton beat NOD32
I've had some bad expiriences with Norton 2005. The uninstaller is horrible. It damaged IE and many other programs. I tried installing Avast an AVG but neither would run becuase of what Norton left behind. At one point my pc wouldn't boot. Ended up reformating ...
If I can find my thread in another forum about all the problems I had I will post it.
Oh, and mabey you should check out Syagte as a firewall.
Deletes a lot less than it scans
