  1. I recommend and use an external hard drive as I find that it is easy to install and the power for the extra hard drive is provided by the external hard drive enclosure so that the extra power does not impact the host system power supply.

It connects through a USB port and not very expensive:

I use Karen's Replicator to keep things in sync between the hard drives:

  2. RAM: 1GB DDR2(Weird, because when I first got it, CCleaner said I only had 768MB )
32MB is used by video RAM

    What does crucial.com recommend?

  3. After doing a clean (didn't do anything advanced) when I reboot the quicklaunch bar has to be re-enabled to show. I tried doing a restore of the backup and got an error (i'm using this on a work laptop xp pro sp2 that is locked down in some areas).

I've looked in the registry by doing a search without success to find any key related to quicklaunch.

    Any suggestions?

February 12, 2009 (Computerworld) Nearly 20 technology companies and organizations are combining forces to disrupt the command-and-control infrastructure of the rapidly spreading Downadup worm, prompted by infection rates of nearly 2.2 million machines each day.

  5. VIRUX Cases Escalate

    by Macky Cruz (Technical Communications)

There are an increasing number of reports from several countries about a complex file infector with several infection routines. Arriving via the Internet, this new strain bypasses the Windows Firewall, infects using various infection types and using more than one layer of encryption. The US seems to be the most affected amongst all other regions as of this writing.

CIO.COM: Can Mozilla Support Their Security Claims?

Mozilla bills Firefox as the most secure Web browser on the planet, but is it really? Follow along with this series and see if the claims hold up to close scrutiny.

Today, I started a multi-part article series on cio.com (Security landing page: http://www.cio.com/topic/1419/Security) probing Mozilla?s claims of security superiority. My plan is to post up a new article every few days probing aspects of claims they?ve made either on the Firefox security page or in some other public forum

Rogue Firefox add-ons bring security risks

February 4, 2009 (Network World) Security is as much about choices as it is about policies. Which software solution you pick is as important as how you configure and use it. With the vast majority of threats today coming from the Web, the choice of browser is critical. With few exceptions, most Web sites are cross-browser compatible. Choosing a browser is less about compatibility and more about usability and security.

  8. How about posting your system specifications?

What is the operating system and Service Pack level?

What is the CPU type and speed and how much RAM does the system have?

A/V definitions are the anti virus definitions so what anti virus application are you running?

  9. The thing I hate about changing weather and rain is that it wrecks havoc with my lower back and hips because I have Scatica due to a severe auto accident I had back in '98.

Stretching and Tylenol helps and I have a small beanbag like pad called Magic Bag that I heat up in the microwave for 1 minute and lay on it for as long as it stays warm while watching the CBC news about the latest disasters befalling our beautiful Green planet.

I think that hazelnut is on the right handing out presents.

I received a nice surprise this morning as my friend invited me down for coffee and a muffin and she gave me a bright yellow coffee cup with a smiling happy face on it.

I watched Forrest Gump on the weekend and I found out where the smiley face came from. :)

I don't mind admitting my Birthday as I marvel at how long I have lived with all the mischief I have been up to.

  12. Welcome Suggs

Having an up to date anti virus application is necessary being on today's infested Internet.

Have you kept your Norton subscription up to date?

A yearly payment is necessary to keep it up to date and usually it warns you if the subscription has run out.

If you can not afford to pay for Norton then it must be completely un-installed with its own application:

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

The free anti virus applications that are recommended:

    Avira AntiVir http://www.free-av.com

  13. When I am reviewing CCleaner topics with IE8 RC1 and a topic is moved the icon for the category becomes highlighted as unread so I go to that unread topic to read it then I return to the base Piriform home page the topic is still read as unread and highlighted.

I tried to go to Options to select that the topic is read but I can not select any item in there.

It is a beautiful Full Moon outside descending into the western sky this morning but I do not think that has anything to do with it

Added: I closed IE and re-tried it and it is working now
