  1. What I mean is if I walked into an electronics store and paid in cash for a printer how would they have a record of it? They might know what area the printer came from but they wouldnt know specifically who printed it.

The printer manufacturer would still know that they sold a certain printer to a certain shop and if credit card or you gave them your name they will know who you are. If not the shop will know when the printer was sold they could then look at the surveillance they will then have your mug shot ready for you  .

Now that you bring that up it does make perfect sense.

I'm almost thinking that law enforcement would be the only people who would have any real usage for such tracking capabilities, it would surely help them in finding counterfeit rings if they could back trace conterfeit paper money to a particular printer and person.

  2. rridgely when you say "There is no way for them to know where the printer came from" if you mean there is no way for them to tell were the printed document comes from because there is. Printer manufacturers record all the serial numbers of every batch they send out to retailers so for instance when amazon buy 500 epson printers they no the serials numbers for all of those then intern amazon know the serial number for every printer they sell to the consumer. So if the police find counterfeit documents they get the serial number tell it to the manufacturer who knows who they sold it to i.e. amazon who know who the sold the printer to and bobs your uncle life in prison :lol: .

Speaking generally i will be emailing epson about the dots to see if my printer does print the dots because im not a criminal and unless i am convicted of a crime no one has the right to watch or track me in any way.

  3. Does anyone else use Outpost Firewall Free? i thought i would give it a go seeing the bug that stops me upgrading zone alarm does not seem to be getting fixed. 4. Imgburn

    From the offical site:

ImgBurn carries on from where DVD Decrypter left off! (Well, for the burning part anyway!)

ImgBurn can write most types of CD / DVD images and it supports all the latest writers (including booktype / bitsetting on many of the major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, NEC, Plextor, Sony). You can even use ImgBurn to erase / format your rewritable media!

ImgBurn will try its very best to burn your DVD-Video double layer images using the layer break you've specified in the IFO files, but it can also calculate the best place for you, to save you the trouble.

Brilliant programs and of course from the UK :D

  5. All my music is currently .wma and 96kbs anyone now what the equivalent(in terms of audio quality) mp3 bit rate is?

Also if i convert all my music to .mp3 do you guys think any errors may occur in the conversion process that may cause sound issues with the music. For example a jump or other error because if i do convert my music to mp3 i don't want to listen to all my music just to hear for errors i mean listening to music is a pleasure not a choir.

I will also need a good free converter(wma to mp3) any recommendations?

  6. I've completely given up on PC speakers altogether and now very rarely turn mine on which was a waste of money with my now 2 year old system. I now solely use headphones. Rather inexpensive about the price of a new audio CD to moderately priced about the price of a PlayStation 2 (not a rich guy so I don't buy rich guy headphones) the headphones I've used have been better in my situation than any speaker system.

Won't using bad headphones degrade the sound you hear and there for what is the point having your music in such high quality. I mean unless you have Audigy 2 ZS or the latest Sound Blaster X-Fi and top notch speakers or head phones you can have the audio file in the best audio format and bit rate for sound quality available but it will sound rubbish.

I mean i just bought a Bose wave music system for my bedroom and my cd's sound better in that then they do on my stereo.

  7. This should answer all your questions about SATA and ATA.

    http://www.lsilogic.com/technologies/indus...technology.html

Thanks sniper that cleared it up it sounds like sata is the way to go, do you or anybody else know of a app i can benchmark my current drive with so i can compare it to my new drive to see what the difference is if any there is?

Andavari how many hd's do you have and how big are they?

I have my audio in .wma at 96kbs i use to have them at 256kbs but i ripped the same song of a album in both and played them fairly loud on my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card and Creative I-Trigue 2.1 speakers. It may be me but i could not hear any difference.

I was also recently going to buy the new Sound Blaster X-Fi which i have read reviews about and it got high scores on all. But im not sure weather to buy new speakers as well because the new card is so much better then Audigy 2 ZS my speakers may not be up to it. The speakers i have tho are Creative I-Trigue 2.1 and were the best 2.1 speakers available from creative a year a go. Do you guys think i will still get the best from the new card from my current speakers?

  8. Thanks for all the suggestions guys i currently have 2 80Gb Hd 1 i use for xp and installing my software the second is purely music, pictures, videos and other various files. While i have nearly 20gb free on the second hd i just want to get another drive so when it comes to it im not having to delete files to fit other stuff on there. Apart from hardware failure which can occur on both external & internal drives, a fire which will cook both my pc and a external drive. A thief who is likely to take both pc and external drive, then there is of course a virus which i have not had in a year and a half since i am now alot more careful how i browse and where and what i download(but still may occur). What else can go wrong with a second hd that has no software installed on it?

For me the safest method for back would be on-line storage which i would be willing to do if i did not have a crap upload speed. I found a on-line download speed calculator and it will take 4272 hours or 177 days to upload my second hd. I think i will go for a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 160GB HD. Also what is the difference between SATA & ATA and which is faster if any?

Another question does anyone know a app which allows me to lock the second hd similar to a firewall so i have more protection for my data?

  9. Same here the interface does need some work as well at the bugs that i have as well as others have found. I have completely switched to google reader from bloglines but i just logged into bloglines to make sure i got all my feeds and now they have hot keys to navigate which they did not have a week a go i.e. before google reader introduced them. talk about a rip off even the next article and previous article hot keys are the same j & k, naughty bloglines. My feeds are as follows, do you have any suggestions for a good pc game news feed i was subscribed to gamepsot but i don't like it.

  10. Thanks for the replays guys, the Maxtor external i was contemplating getting has firewire so that's good. Why there are chances of fire and theft is someone steals my pc not only are they likely to get ripped to shreds by my dog but are also likely to take the shiny box thing i.e. the backup drive on the desk so what's the point. So i guess its really hardware failure and data corruption but then i have read reviews of the Maxtor drive i cant remember where i read it but one review said the drive inside is a diamondmax which is the internal drive i was thinking about buying so the likely hood of hardware failure is surely the same is it not.

The data i currently have on my second drive is pictures, music a few videos, .exe of the software i have installed i also use syncback to backup stuff that is on my c drive for example CCleaner's winapp2.ini, firefox profile, my documents saved games ntlite pre-sets etc.

The external drive is ?107.00 and the internal drive is ?57.85 both are the same size 200gb

  11. I currently use a 80Gb internal Hd for my back which has my music and pic on i also use it with synback to copy files i want to keep from my C drive i.e firefox profile saved games my documents folder etc. I was going to get a Maxotr One Touch II but someone left a review staying the software that comes with it for what he wants is useless so he found a neat bit of software called sync back which i already have. He went on to say he therefore wish he just got a internal one because its just another thing to plug-in. It got me thinking it my data any more secure external then internally because when you think about the internal back hd is just plugged in via a cable as is the external one, the internal one would also be cooler because i have more fans on my pc then a office block. They also plugged in via the same socket so if my pc goes puff so will the external drive.

  12. Americas Army, i cant remember my user name i think its stormshadow or it maybe Englishmen have not played in about a year but i have a honour rating of 25.

    Act Of War

    sometimes C&C Generals

Looking forward to F.E.A.R on-line when it arrives and played the imp demo it its brilliant.

There is a update to Americas army update 2.5 out today so i may have a go.

  13. I customize my xp installation using nlite i also use RyanVm's Update pack which is a collection of all post sp2 hot fixes. As you are installing xp fresh you could just use nlite to integrate sp2 if you haven't already got a xpsp2 disc then integrate ryanvm's update that way when you install xp it is already up to date.

  14. He is most liley only doing the tour to sell windows.

One good thing about the psp tho is that it does everything videos, pictures, music, dvd's and if you download a emulator and have 1.5 firmware as i have you can play old mega drive, snes games etc. It also hackable like nothing before apart from maybe windows  .

Edit: One of the students should ask if he owns a ipod see what he says.

  15. Nice but why on earth is bill going to your school? That ipod video is a joke i can see people watching movie trailers on it and music videos but tv programs on a 2 1/2 screen for an hour you have to be joking me. They should have took one of the mock ups that people had created of what they think it will look like the look much better.

    http://www.fayerwayer.com/render2b.jpg

While im moaning at apple i also had the ipod sorry Newhotness :D , some of my m8's have a ipod and some have a creative zen micro as do i, the zen micro is cheaper looks just as good for the price bigger capacity creative are sound equipment people their for it sounds better and i have herd the same song on both and ut does indeed sound better. It also has a radio and i not bias towards any specific format you also don't need the rubbish itunes to put music on it.

In in all the only reason people by a ipod is because it looks good if they was to do some research and listen to both etc the creative zen micro will always come out on top.

  16. It would seem it is true one the bbc web site it says

"The event is cloaked in the usual Apple secrecy but speculation has been rife about what will go on show.

The BBC's Television Centre in London is hosting part of the event which has fuelled gossip about the video iPod.

Other candidates for the launch include a higher-capacity iPod, improved Power Mac and Powerbook computers and tiered pricing on the iTunes store."
