  1. Media Player Classic is essential because not only does it play a lot more formats then wmp it also plays dvd's which wmp does not. It is also requires no installation and is a lot smaller then say vlc which has similar functionality as mpc.

  2. You could slightly change the essential app thread for instance have category's i.e. web browsers then list firefox, opera, maxthon etc and have the title of the program linking to the official site. Also have a description on the top of the page stating how things work i.e. click on the name of the program to go the official site and remember to vote for your favourite.

  3. Great idea rridgely i think categorizing the software will make it for users find a app also locking will stop it getting bloated and untidy. I don't know if possible but how about a poll so people can vote which say browser or email client is the fav so users can instantly get a idea of what one is best.

Also maybe change the description you have put next to the apps to say the first sentence from the official site for instant open office could be.

"OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute."

Could also have a sub category for games.

Some essential apps Foxit Pdf reader, media player classic , google talk.

  4. I'm not looking to get my desktop etc. looking like a mac as such i just wanted it to look clean and crisp unlike windows. Also the taskbar at the top was a necessity when i got RK Launcher because Rk looks terrible at the top so i had to switch them around. I have tried to switch them back but it felt so strange at the bottom.

  5. I wanted to remove the Nero scout link from my computer so done some searching and found the below tweak. Works perfectly hope some other people find it useful.

    Edit:

To make it easier for those who don't know what to do with the code and to get rid of the problems with the quote box stretching the page. Just download the below file and double click it, when prompted click yes, then the nero scout link in "my computer" will be gone.

    Remove Nero Scout

  6. I do get you point that all it does is supply's links to programs so why not just have links on a desktop instead. But if you can get some links on your desktop to look as good as the links on the bottom of my desktop then please tell me how because dams because dams my **** looks good.

I have not only redone my desktop again(twice now in a week)but i also changed the look of windows completely.

  7. I suppose that's the difference you don't give a crap what your desktop looks like but i and everyone else who uses a dock application do which is why we use a dock application.

  8. That is why tho because Rk Launcher does use so little resources i mean i just checked it out via Process Explorer it reported rk launcher as using 0 cpu and 5.5mb of ram. And surely if you have a load of icons on your desktop windows still has to draw them anyway does it not?

Amongst the anti virus. firewall, anti spyware, messenger program, music player and web browser that more or less everyone has running such a small amount of resources does not matter.

  9. Thats a cool background. :)

You guys kill me with not having any icons though. The whole point of the desktop is quick access to programs. :P

That is the point of having a desktop yes but that is also the point for having a dock application. In my case Rk Launcher why would you have both? A dock gives you access to all the programs you way other wise have on your desktop in a clean little skin able interface.

  11. I don't know about RK Launcher, I'm still trying to get to grips with it. Sorry englishman but it's not as simple at OD, or maybe I'm just a bit on the thick side.

Back to the orginal question, on OD you can add any shortcuts you want. In facts it's so easy you just need to drag the icon from your desktop and drop it onto the bar. Once it's there you can right click the icon and make any changes.

I'm not calling you thick by any means but it is one of the simplest programs i have used.

About adding icons you can also do that with RK Launcher its just it has a option to lock that feature to stop users removing icons by accident. Go to setting, behaviour then toggle Locked add/delete/drag according to your preference.

  12. Taken from BetaNews:

"Move over HD DVD and Blu-ray. Bell Labs spin-off InPhase Technologies and Hitachi Maxell are currently working on a computer disc about the size of a DVD that could hold up to sixty times the data. The companies hope to have the disc and compatible drives on the market by the end of next year."
