Darkman
rridgely, Just installed that Abitword.. - seems to be a nice program - thanks! Just wondering .. when you said (below) "Abitword- The best word processor you will find anyware.(free or not) Make sure you get all the additional dictionaries ect to get the most use out of this program. http://www.abisource.com/" -- On this page here: http://www.abisource.com/download/index.phtml I downloaded everything for Windows there (before Dictionaries) Those: "Microsoft Windows (program Itself for Windows) Get Import/Export Plugins Get Tools Plugins Get fonts for equation editing" ----- But then when you click on "Get Dictionaries" .. it puts you here: http://www.abisource.com/downloads/dictionaries/Windows/ and there i downloaded just those 4: AbiWord_Dictionary_American.exe 14-Jan-2006 10:02 616K AbiWord_Dictionary_British.exe 14-Jan-2006 10:02 613K AbiWord_Dictionary_Russian.exe 14-Jan-2006 10:04 2.0M AbiWord_Dictionary_Ukrainian.exe 14-Jan-2006 10:01 503K --- So the question is, when you said "Make sure you get all the additional dictionaries ect to get the most use out of this program.", DID you mean all those on that page there? (including all those other foreign ones there, that i don't have a clue how to speak) .. Or did you mean some other dictionaries.. (maybe some other English ones, etc .. some other useful ones) that are located at some other link(s)? Thanks Good proggy anyhow
Eldmannen
It is AbiWord not AbitWord. And yeah, it is good.
Moderators rridgely Posted September 14, 2006 Moderators Share Posted September 14, 2006 No, just the ones for your language and then the tools. The plug ins and dictionaries add a lot of functionality to it.
JohnDemolition
and Ultimately makes AbiWord slower. i personally have the good plugins which are actually useful and deleted the ones that i deem useless. and currently, AbiWord loads faster than OpenOffice

(seriously) If abiword could do powerpoint, and excell I would forget about openoffice. I haven't noticed any slowdown from using the plug-ins with abiword though... (just turn off that dumb splash screen if you haven't already)

(just turn off that dumb splash screen if you haven't already) Actually.....there is a spreadsheet available that is, along with Abiword, part of the GNOME Office project. It is called "Gnumeric" - and it is quite good and opensource (and mind you this is a Structural Engineer speaking....). The link: http://www.gnome.org/projects/gnumeric/ I believe you may find that this comes very close to achieving your wish.....take a look. Moderators rridgely Posted September 15, 2006 Moderators Share Posted September 15, 2006 Thanks for pointing out gnumeric galileo. I'm downloading it now. I don't use spreadsheets as much as I use word and powerpoint but it comes in handy every once in a while. Now you just have to find me another powerpoint compatible program I don't mind Openoffice(I actually use staroffice because of its templates) but I wish they didn't load so sssslllloooowww. Oh well, at least it didn't cost me $300(or $150 for student/teacher version)
