False positives and Paint.net download

Recommended Posts

I use Ccleaner Pro on one of my machines and Ccleaner Free on a second machine.
The Pro version always overstates the number of trackers detected - sometimes by a factor of 100, and claims that a much smaller number has been removed (E.G. 374 trackers detected and 12 trackers removed).

This does not happen with the free version.

Has this problem got anything to do with the infuriating attempts by Ccleaner to install paint.net? I have used paint.net for much longer than Ccleaner and assumed, the first time I saw the attempted download that there was a new version of which I was not aware, so I allowed the download. Sadly, after a few weeks, the attempts to download paint.net resumed! This would indicate a glitch in the system since I have paint.net on all my machines.

Can these issues be fixed?

When Health Check does that the cause is usually cookies/history in a browser that is running in the background.
(Although it may be other files in something else running in the background).

Health Check sees the files to be cleared, but then can't clear them because the browser/app is still running in the background.

Which browser(s) do you use on the Machine with CCleaner Pro?

Edge browser can be a major culprit.
See here for how to stop Edge and it's extensions from running in the background.

If that doesn't cure it for you then come back and we can investigate further just what files may be causing it for you.

PS. Did you have a question about Paint?

Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Worried about why some files come back after cleaning? See this link:
