Hello !

I'm a french user of Ccleaner since a few years.

Since 3 weeks , I had to re-install CCleaner as admin at each time I want to use it.

I've a Ccleaner Pro version under W11 Pro and have try a lot of tips from forums but no one works for me.

Thanks for your Help!

So you can run CCleaner from the installer when you install it, but next time you try it will not open.
This is usually a problem with an antivirus, certain AV's are worse for it than others.

3-weeks ago is about when CCleaner last updated to a new version, so your particular AV may not be recognising that new version yet.

The first thing to try is updating your antivirus.

Which antivirus are you using? If you could also tell us which version number it is that will help.

AppCrash is a Windows error that is simply saying that the application has crashed for some reason, and there can be many reasons why.

Some common reasons for an AppCrash happening are:

  • A Registry corruption.
  • A Virus or malware is interfering with the app.
  • The computer is out of system/virtual memory.
  • A bug in the code of the application.
  • The operating system is incompatible with the application.
  • There are other less common possibilities.

Tackling the easier ones first:

CCleaner isn't known to have problems with Win11, but as Win 11 is still quite new it's not really fully stable yet and even minor Windows Updates can have funny effects.
But we'll discount compatibility issues for now.

I doubt that it's malware but it never hurts to run a scan with a tool like Malwarebytes just in case you have picked up an infection, the free version is fine for scanning and removal of malware. It won't interfere with the built in Windows AV.

Next I would download a new CCleaner installer, just in case the one you have already got corrupted when you downloaded it.
Uninstall CCleaner from your machine if you haven't already, make sure that you have your licence key noted down because you will need to register it again.
(You can remove the old installer as welll).
Download the 'Slim' installer, it's the 3rd one down here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds
Use that to reinstall CCleaner.

Let us know if that fixes things for you.

It definitely sounds that something is blocking it from starting.
Whatever it is isn't blocking the installer which is why you can run it from there, but is blocking the app itself when you try to launch it.

It might be a permissions issue, are you still admin when you try to run it the second time?

Another couple of things to try to find what the problem may be.

Disconnect from the internet and see if CCleaner will run.
Boot Windows into Safe Mode with Networking (Safe Mode with Internet connectivity) and see if CCleaner will run.

Instructions for getting into safe mode in case you need them: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234#WindowsVersion=Windows_11

Well reinstalling Windows is a bit of a more drastic step, but sometimes it is needed to sort odd glitches out.
