Works fine on images here, what search options did you have set?

I ususally search for duplicate images on Size and Content, so that it finds duplicate images even if the name has been changed.

Be aware that even a slight change to an image, such as red-eye reduction, will make it no longer an exact duplicate.

Here's a simple setup and results - searching just the 'Pictures' folder and sub-folders for all filetypes, you can see it found a couple where the name had been changed..

If you look again at my first screenshot you'll see there is an 'Exclude' tab where you can set paths that you don't want to be searched.
